Default Bad News For Haters of CN Live-Actions Productions

CLICK THE BAD NEWS

That live-action Scooby-Doo move that CN aired (which I thought was unbearable) gave Cartoon Network its highest ratings EVER!

6,108,000 viewers promoting CN to the top 10 (they were #6) in Cable viewership for the week. Usually, CN can't get viewers over 2 million for their top programs (Star Wars, Ben 10, Batman) and CN's live-action stuff hardly gets 1 million.

Now accounting for these facts, and the fact that, as I recall, CN never even use to be in the top 20 Cable shows (ever), 6 million+ viewers is GIGANTIC news for CN. Gigantic, good news. (Bad for haters of CN live-action stuff)

This will indefinitely make CN have more live-action stuff, which will probably be as bad as this Scooby-Doo movie.

It may, hopefully, be a one-time event, powered by Scooby's name and viewer curiosity; I considered tuning in myself for those very reasons.

One-time event or not, CN will undoubtedly think Live-Action is the way to go.

It probably is a one time thing too, but take this for example:

Say you went the same way to school everyday for 10 years and nothing happens, but when you take a second route to school for the first time in your life, you find a briefcase filled with $1000. You're going to keep going the second way, regardless if you find anything else, based one a one-time, spectacular event.

That how I think CN will see it.

But I thought that prior to the SD movie, their highest rating ever was when they aired the live action Ben 10 movie. If so, then it's not a one thing thing. If not, then sorry for the misinformation.

Actually Sparky, you're right. The Ben 10 Live Action movie did have the highest rating and viewership on Cartoon Networs (beating out a 2002 airing of Dragon Ball Z ,) but even then, the Ben 10 movie was around 3.9 million viewers. This is over 50% higher with viewers, but regardless, I do see your point with a streak of Live-Action movies getting higher ratings than their animated counterpart.

Which may bring up the fututre where the only place we can see favorite cartoons is when they're transferred to live-action

I like Scooby Doo as much as the next person, but I saw five minutes of the movie the other day and, eh, it was stupid if you ask me. Of course this is only my opinion and it was only five minutes worth. I can't believe it brought in that many viewers. Most of them were probably just avid Scooby fans wanting to see it just so they can keep up with their fandom.

But the CN Real block is still doing poorly, which makes me happy. That's the stuff that really makes me mad. If that block gains ratings, then I'll be extremely upset.

Sometimes when something that used to be awesome changes and disappoints people, some of those people get together and start a new thing. So, maybe some people, some maybe from CN, will get together and start a new cartoon channel, and due to what happened with CN, will actually stay true to their original vision. Maybe we can just hope for that rather than relying on CN changing back.

An additional bad sign is that the Burbank studio seems to be no longer making stuff. The newest animated fare of late (Stoked, Total Drama Island, League Of Super Evil) are Canadian imports. It appears that importing shows is more cost-efficient than making new brand-name shows.

I don't read too much into that huge rating, seeing as how the movie was shown on a Sunday night where it almost literally faced no competition.

The only other fresh thing of note that was on at the time was the "Series Finale" of King of the Hill, a show which isn't even watched by the same demographics that often tune into CN programing.

I also don't take this as a sign that people prefer live action over animation, but that viewers often tend to stick with "what they recognize" rather then try something new and untested.

I refused to watch Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins if only because they screwed up one detail: Fred's hair is supposed to be blond and not any other color.

I'm starting to think that the Canadian imports are getting more screen time than CN's original cartoon programming. If they're really hurting for material, they need to bring some the shows that were moved to Boomerang back to CN. They can fill the slot CN Real occupies now.
