Default Happy 50th...

...to Huckleberry Hound, Hanna-Barbera's first bonafide hit. It premiered in syndication and was such a big hit that a bar in San Francisco posted a sign next to its TV that said "No clinking of glasses or noise during The Huckleberry Hound Show. It won an Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program, the first to do so. It would beget Yogi Bear, which spun off into a separate show in 1961.

Life begins at 50, Huckleberry! Good toon! You can see why it was such a big hit and I bet everyone had an impression of that voice. My favourite was Snagglepuss though. Great voice he had.

My (or possibly my brother's) little Huckleberry Hound plush was one of my favorite toys as a kid. I loved that show.

Snagglepuss' voice (by Daws Butler) was based on Bert Lahr's performance as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard Of Oz. Snagglepuss appeared on Yogi's show. (Huck's originally had Yogi Bear and Pixie & Dixie. When Yogi got his own show, his spot on Huck's was replaced by Hokey Wolf. Rounding out Yogi's was Yakky Doodle.)
