Default Sparky - just made your Monster Cookies again!

We love this recipe! I coloured the dough with paste food coloring & rolled into a "log", chilled in the fridge, then sliced & baked the cookies. I still used your icing recipe. They always turn out perfectly.

I've searched for an hour here on the forum but couldn't find the original thread where you posted this recipe.

Thanks again!

You're welcome. (The recipe is posted in the Halloween section of my Beetlejuice page here for anyone who wants it). I posted about them originally in the Spam section and I believe the Spam section is unsearchable since guests and bots can't access it. I tracked it down though, here it is.

Anyways I just made these myself for Thanksgiving a couple weeks ago in leaf shapes iced in autumn colors and they were great. I actually tried something a little different this time, I added about a teaspoon of marangue powder to the icing. It made it even stiffer. I thought at first it was maybe too stiff, almost crunchy, but it did in fact make it less messy when the cookies were piled on the plate and later stored in ziplock bags. So that's another option.

I actually recently tracked down a place that carried set of powdered icing colors because I'd heard so many good things about those. Haven't used them yet but I will soon, maybe this weekend, as it's time for Christmas cookies.

Oh edit again, at the same baking supply place I got the icing powder I got a set of those rolling pin rings, for rolling dough out at a consistent thickness. I'm going to try them next time I make this recipe, I hope they work. I do also have some parchment paper this time, I ought to use that.

I bought "Wilton" food color gel (they come in a tiny container) a couple years ago & would recommend them. They are vivid colors & don't require much to tint icing or dough. I'll have to check for powdered colors next time I'm shopping.

When I made the icing today, instead of adding milk I added a tablespoon of vanilla extract & 1 tablespoon almond extract. It made a delicious tasting icing!

I had to put the cookies in the freezer before we devoured them all before Christmas!!

Yeah I've been using the Wilton paste for many years. I just wanted to try the powder because I heard it was easier to get a consistent color without streaking, probably because you mix it with the dry ingredients. We'll see, we went shopping today and now have cookie ingredients. I'm not doing the monster cookies, but I will be making iced gingerbread men.

Speaking of recipes I just downloaded a recipe organising freeware and it keeps crashing. Every time I try to enter in the monster cookie recipe, even. -_- Bah.
