I've only gave this thread a quick scan because I'm in a hurry but I'll give my two cents real quick and get into detail later.
I agree with Ditchy and Vox wholeheartedly. I also agree with what Mr.M said about SFA. It is a good game. I have a copy of it myself (and all the other SF's) and I can say that it really is enjoyable for StarFox fans, and even more so for StarWolf fans. Panther is down right awesome!
As for my pick of underated game, I have to go with Elite Beat Agents. It has huge crittical acclaim but didan't do as well as Nintendo hoped. It sold modestly enough for an upcomming sequal, though. If you enjoy rytham games (Parappa, DanceDance Revolution) then you will LOVE this game. It rocks on so many levels, the EBA agents are to cool for school, and the game has to be one of the funniest to come along in ages. (a washed up baseball star rising back into stardom by saveing kids from a "GIANT FIRE-BREATHING GOLEM!" will make you split a gut in laughter. )

I actually have 2 under rated games, each from a different system and each one I LOVE dearly but no one else ever seemed to catch onto it:

Tech Romancer - Dream Cast

This was a kick ass anime robot fighting game, kind of pokes fun at all the screaming mecha anime cliches with the characters, the screaming attacks, and the energy blasts atc. It was a SUPER fun game, I never got sick of playing it.

The robots could dish out some really fun finishing moves and attacks if you hit the right buttons and NO ONE heard of this game but I still loved it, played it, and still enjoy it.

Whacked! - Xbox

Alot of people basically ignored this game, saying it was too simple and repetitive but I found this game to be hilarious! It's this wacko game show where you play as one of multiple Rated R type cartoon guys.

The game has swearing, sexual humor and it's all done through very toony looking guys. There's a psycho bunny named Lucky who had all his paws cut off and he goes off mouthing "Who wants a carrot where the sun don't shine?"

It's a funny game and a very FUN funny game.

Along with Super Mario 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was among the first games I played for the Nintendo 64. Many reviewers trashed the camera and controls, but I still found it to be a very thrilling adventure. In fact, it's what hooked me into Star Wars.

And speaking of SW, I also want to mention Republic Commando for the Xbox. It did get some praise, but not nearly enough for what I believe is a truly amazing first-person shooter. One of the very best SW games ever, IMO.

One game that I feel was an underated game is Street Fighter 3. It was a bit of a dissapointment considering that it was the long awaited true sequal to SFII, but that's only really because it was an old-school game that appeared amid the crossover craze that Capcom started not long before.
I used to go to the arcade to play it, and it is definetly a very solid, beutifuly animated 2D fighter. In fact, 2D fighters are all too underated these days. 3D fighters are nice, but they can never truely grasp the allure of the 2D fighter.

Oh an underrated games thread, I can talk and talk about the subject matter until the cows come home, but rather then do that, I'll just a give y'all a link to a website that talks about the subject matter at great length and a lot of the games that are on my list are covered on that site already...

There are a few games I see on that list that I'd consider favorites. I remember playing Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. That one was a lot of fun to me. I also remember playing Legend of the Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon. I played the Legend of Kyrandia (Book One), but I never beaten that one. Punch Out -- I remember playing it like it was yesterday. There's one game I really loved that I think was underrated that I didn't seen on the list. Does anyone remember the Super NES title, Lagoon? I LOVED that one tons!

While I felt Shadows of the Empire did have it's fair share of problems, I agree that it was an enjoyable game. The only levels I genuinely had a problem with the controls were the fights with that one bounty hunter droid and then the fight with Boba Fett. Otherwise, I thought it was an entertaining game.

As for myself, my three favorite underrated games (all technically series) are Xenosaga, Shadow Hearts, and Earthbound. It's unfortunate to me that none of them got more notice then they did, as I found all of them to be superior RPGs when compared to most of the mainstream RPGs, such as Final Fantasy. i'm not bashing FF, mind you, but I feel that it has become overrated. Then again, I also feel that it'll never be able to eclipse it's own shining moment (FF VI), so I'm a bit biased.

Kings Bounty Was a great underated game.

It was released back in 1990 and was the ancesstor to the Heros of Might and series.

I use to enjoy playing Kings bounty more than Heros, because it was quick and fun. Besides Heros of Might and Magic gameplay was really more of a mix between Kings bounty and Warlords 2.
