I found this article on this movie website that I check daily, and this caught my eye: http://www.mania.com/52810.html
Personally....this article pissed me off. I realize DVDs have inveitably taken over and replaced VHS tapes, but still, being someone who still has a vast collection of VHS tapes of stuff that will probably NEVER go on DVD. It annoys me to see this. I never disliked VHS tapes after DVDs came out, nor did I dump them out unless they actually started to break down or something. My brother harps at me alot saying VHS tapes are crap. That I should dump em and anyways, this just annoyed me and I don't like the idea of Variety mocking the "death" of something that was a big part of my life. As weird as it sounds. I was wondering, what do you guys think?

the article itself doesn't upset me, its tone is sarcastic but not insulting. It's the hosers who say garbage like "About time that crappy format died..." that bug me (like your brother). I have a hard time understanding why anyone would jump for joy at the death of a media format.
VHS is still a servicable format (I'll be recording tonight's Fosters on a VHS tape), despite the haters' attempts to say otherwise. That said, Betamax was better. BETAMAX FOREVER! Last edited by billytheskink; 11-17-2006 at 12:37 PM. |

Tapes can, fortunately, be transferred to disks without too much trouble, thank the stars; my own collection is immense.

I myself have a big freaking collection of VHS tapes, most of which are recorded TV shows or movies that have still not come to DVD (and some I have a feeling never will). The rest are store bought Dragon Ball Z tapes mostly.
I still have movies on VHS even though now I buy DVDs, but only of ones I don't already have. I keep all my VHS tapes and use them as much as I would a DVD until the tape craps out and becomes too fuzzy or screwed up otherwise to watch. Other then that, i still love VHS tapes. It's ideal for recording. I actually bought this expensive thing called "go dvd" that can transfer VHS footage onto DVDs and actually improve the quality of the footage when its put onto a disc. I plan on doing that to all my recorded tapes and just keep the store bought ones forever or until they crap out. But like I said, I don't find the article funny and like I also said, recording shows on VHS tapes was my whole life back when I was a kid. Even though DVDs have taken over and VHS is undoubtedly gone, I still feel bad just knowing something that was apart of my childhood is gone. Even if it was something as trivial as a video tape.
