Well, I'm glad I didn't see that. That's an absolutely horrific thing to do.... and unlike that guy, if I felt I was about to be attacked by a snake I wouldn't reach my hand down with a knife to remedy that. Although I feel a strange sense of justice in knowing that most people who are bitten by venomous snakes are bitten trying to kill them, since there's no doubt most of them probably weren't even being attacked before they tried it.

It's a safe bet that NONE of them were being attacked before killing the snake; snakes just DO NOT attack people! "Attack" means that the animal goes out of its way to hurt you, that it comes after you, even though it had the opportunity to just go away. Snakes, with the exception of a few non-North American species actually big enough to eat a human, just don't do that. Sure, if they're cornered, or stepped on, and have no other recourse, they'll bite in self-defense, but so will a bunny rabbit, and I don't see people freaking out every time they see one of those! A snake has nothing to gain by attacking a human, since very, very few of them can eat us, and unlike animals that protect their offspring, they don't even have that as a reason.
