I just saw a preview screening iof "Chappie," the newest effort from the folks who brought us Distruct 9. Its a work in progress, but I hope they can polish it up. It was frankly ridiculous, and couldn't decide if it was serious or not serious at all.

Rent it when you have a chance; it's very good.

I'm intrigued. (Cassini googles "Chappie", finds plot on Wikipedia):

I think I'll pass on this one.

In case no one has heard yet, news broke over the weekend that there will be a sequel to Frozen. Yay! I just hope it's not stupid and only geared toward toddlers like it seems most other Disney sequels are. With the exception of Pixar movies, since I think the Toy Story trilogy was awesome all the way through.

And the last movie I watched was Mansfield Park, based on the classic novel by Jane Austen. Still love the history. I always love the history!

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

I'm no comic book geek, but I couldn't help but enjoy this great action film. This was the second film I saw since I got out of hospital (the first one being How to Train Your Dragon 2, which is a brilliant movie in its own right), and I really enjoyed it. Chris Pratt (from The LEGO Movie) is great as Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, Bradley Cooper was wonderful as Rocket Raccoon, and Karen Gillan (from Doctor Who) was surprisingly great as one of the main villains. I will say this, the post-credits scene at the end of this movie is probably the BEST I've seen so far, but you may have to either be a true Marvel fan or have a REALLY good knowledge of bad 80s movies (or both) to get it. Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy is a fun ride that doesn't take itself seriously, and has a rockin' soundtrack to boot as well. I recommend it!

The Matador (2004)

Pierce Brosnan stars as a quirky assassin who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a businessman in a hotel bar in Mexico. They cross paths again several months later when the assassin seeks him out, needing help on one last job. Much lighter than most assassin movies, actually kind of touching in an odd sort of way. Very enjoyable.

Rated R; Runtime = 1 hour, 37 minutes.

The Lego Movie (2014)

This was... surreal. Quirky, but in a good way, amusing and likable characters, good special effects on top of an almost entirely CGI production, and a late plot twist that I did not see coming, all combined make for a pleasant viewing experience. Nothing particularly heavy or deep here, although the ending is sweet and warm... at least until the last scene, when the Duplo blocks show up, and you burst out laughing. Not going into too much detail here so as not to spoil things for those who haven't seen it yet and if you're one of those people, rent it when you have a chance; it's worth it.

Rated PG; Runtime = 1 hour, 41 minutes.

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men

This is a 90-minure fan production on YouTube, starring some of the actors from the various Star Trek series'. The production values are a little low, the dialogue could've been better, and the plot was a bit over-the-top. Yet it has heart, and it has something to say, and in it's own way this movie is as good as any episode from the original series or any of it's successors. Watch it if you can; it's worth the time. A+.
