Ep Discussion - Duchess Of Wails
I did a search as well as looked through the pages for a thread on this episode, but couldn't find one. However my flame suit is within reach (it's just over there, see?) in case I missed it.
This is one of the better episodes in the series, too few eps really show Mac and Bloo together for extended periods. Duchess finally gets adopted, however her new family are neighbours of Mac. Mac and Bloo find out that if Duchess stays, they will have to move away from Bloo, all the way to .... Singapore, Wisconsin. Bloo and Mac break into the neighbours house to mess the place up, hoping the Applebees (Duchess' new family) will send her away, but their plan fails (although Bloo's camoflage kit cracks me up, with his sock-puppet gloves). They then decide the only thing to do is to get Duchess back to Fosters, with some good "LOTR: Two Towers" references mixed in there for good measure. Love this ep. I like this eppie too, despite we see the pure evilness of Duchess. She's evil, pure evil. Anyway, I too loved Bloo's mittens and ski cap. I remember cracking up when I first saw that, and then even more when Bloo does this little charade with his mittens. I thought it was out of character when Mac fell for Terrence's story about moving to Singapore, though. It must have been a moment of gullible-ness.
I found it funny the little screw-up that was probably intentional for some reasons. Ok, so Mac and Bloo trash the Applebee's apartment during the night. The next morning they have their ears to the wall waiting for them to wake up and start yelling at Duchess. We all know how that went. Bloo comes up with the idea of taking her back to Foster's, and while Mac is still in his room (and his pajamas), Bloo runs next door, kidnaps Duchess and in coming back to Mac's room, they leave right away (Mac literally changes in half a second). They run and run, and Terrence chases them and gets to the house first. Terrence tells Frankie and Herriman what Mac and Bloo are trying to do and tells them "They'll be here by nighfall", and Frankie says "You mean, in three or four minutes?" And he says "Yeah." And in the next scene when Mac and Bloo arrive at the house, it's dark. Ok... They just woke up! What happened to the whole day?? I found that amusing, but it also kind of messes the episode up since that made no sense whatsoever. Even though I see where they were going with it. Yay for the LOTR and Helms Deep reference! I absolutely love those movies. The most memorable line I think from this eppie has got to be "We tee-peed them, Bloo! Tee-peed!!" And the end, when Mac thinks he's moving away and will never see Bloo again, and they hug, that's one of the biggest tear jerker scenes of the whole series. They're covered in mud, and you can actually hear the emotion in Mac's voice, he sounds like he's fighting off the tears. I almost want to cry whenever I see it. Ah, but it's a good episode. It's fun seeing Mac and Bloo being "boys" when they're trashing the apartment. And it's also fun seeing Duchess being dropped in the mud time and time again.

I did not like the plot that much, but I have to say this is the most well animated episode of them all. The Foster's friends and Madame on the roof scene is just of EPIC proportions. It's so smooth and grand it takes my breath away

One of my favourite aspects of this episode? The Applebees. The Foster's crew didn't exactly go out of their way to hide the fact that Mr. and Mrs. Applebee were essentially cheap knock-offs of Ned and Maude Flanders from the Simpsons, now did they? It's hard to explain why exactly, but for me it makes it all the more hilarious...I was delighted to see them return for a brief, wonderfully in-character cameo in Infernal Slumber.
The episode as a whole is quite easily one of my favourites from Season Three (a season which I have an unfortunate tendency to overlook sometimes, it being sandwiched in between my two favourites, 2 and 4). Duchess is simply awesome, and it was great to see her in a starring role. I have my doubts as to whether I personally could live with the pedigree IF without trading in my will to live, but she's certainly a delightful creature to view from the safe distance of your living room. Her threat to go naked and Madame Foster's response to it crack me up every single time.

I wanted to see what would have happened if Mac and Bloo were successful.
