Default Flaming Computers

Well, has anyone else expirienced the joy of a potentially explosive computer?

Just this morning we had a power surge after a bunch of flickery power. First it cut off when I was posting here, then we went out for a while, came back, and the power source to the computer I'm currently using was smoking (we fixed it).

Thank god it didn't get the harddrive, or else all of my files would have been gone, pages of lore about worlds... ugh...

Years ago a power line near my parent's house was hit by lightning. We were treated to the spectacle of a little ball of blue-white fire as it raced out of a power outlet, up the power cord, and into the VCR, which emitted a large shower of orange sparks before bursting into flames. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Sounds rather frightening if you ask me...

I experienced the same power surge this morning (I'm assuming we're living in the same part of Philly). My computer's still alright though.

The worst I've ever experienced was when I flipped one of those power-strip things on and it shot sparks at me and started smoking. And it wasn't really an electronic device, but the popcorn kettle inside the glass case of the popper at a movie threatre I worked at one summer exploded and metal shrapnel flew everyone. No one was hit.

I figured I wasn't alone.

(where in philly are you?)

Well if you want to see somehting awesome, wrap a coconut in fiberglass and mircowave it for ten minites. The coconut and microwave will explode, sending microwave chunks into your neighbor's wall (or send them sailing into the ionosphere, if you're doing this outside).

You wouldn't be stupid enough to do this in your own home, now would you?

In other words, don't do it.

You have no idea how much willpower it's taking me to not try it.

But what if you DID do it, and someone called in the middle of the process? That'd be a great conversation.

"Hi, what are you up to?
"Oh nothing, just wrapping coconuts in fiberglass and popping them in the new microwave, you know *BANG!!* the norm... oh man, microwave door shards kinda hurt"
"Sounds like a boring day then"

Well, my dad's a chemist. He thinks up these things.

Oh, god, can you imagine this in a Foster's episode?

Cassini, do it with an egg if you just can't resist, same general response but not as destructive.

Also, I forgot to mention that you have to use fiberglass resin and curing agent on the cloth to harden it. That way it builds up even more vapor pressure before it goes boom.

There was something like that near the end of "Cookie Dough", when Bloo turned the oven up to 2500 degrees and blew the roof off the house.

I tried microwaving an egg once. Mother instructed me not to do it again.
