Default Surf's Up

Saw this one today. I loved the character designs, and the overall look of the film. I enjoyed most of the characters and the writing, etc. Did anyone else see it? Did you like it? I know penguins are popular but I have to dock this movie some points for jumping on a bandwagon, but other than that its a pretty good movie. Nice music too.

There was one thing that bothered me however, and I'm putting it in spoiler tags because if you haven't seen the movie this would possibly ruin a plot twist for you. So don't blame me if you highlight this and ruin part of the movie for yourself.

Spoiler Below
Okay, I have a major problem with what Z did, when he faked his death. He faked his death because he didn't want to look like a loser? He made all those people mourn for him because he didn't want to look like a loser? They named a surfing tournament in his honor and everything! Erected a shrine to him! What a MASSIVELY stupid and selfish thing for him to have done. I understand that the point of it all was to make Cody understand the difference between giving up and persevering with his dream etc but I just can't get over it. Making his niece live with keeping a secret like that, making her feed him and take care of him, apparently from the age of EIGHT or so...

I just have a big problem with it, that's all. I will say though that he was much more attractive (for a cartoon penguin anyways) as "the Geek" than he was at his physical peak...

Okay I'm done.

I haven't seen it yet, but it looks fairly decent. 4 stars. Now, how many animated movies have earned 4 stars? Like, only one. (Shrek 2)

Had some time to kill and went and saw this today. What can I say I have always been a sucker for mockumentaries, always been that way since I saw "This is Spinal Tap" many moons ago.

Yeah I'll pretty much say what everyone else has been saying about the movie. The animation and character designs looked great and the actors did a good job in their roles, Jeff Bridges, Brian Posehn, Diedrich Bader and Mario Cantone's characters were the highlights of the film IMHO.

As for the story yeah it's the same kind of believe in your self/never give in and that all jazz message that's been in several family films before hand, but at least here it's got the mock-documentary narrative going for it, so it gives the story a more laid back feel and the message didn't feel forced or heavy handed.

So all in all it was a good way to kill an hour and a half.

Default An Opinion From a Fellow Pen Guan! :)

Yeah, I now this is "bringing an old topic from the dead" but I have stuff to say about this movie.

It. Was. AWESOME. I wanted to see it in theaters but didn't get the chance...my mom bought me the DVD for Christmas since I heard good things about the movie from friends. I was laughing the whole time, Joe was awesome ("Dude [Cody], she called you 'crap'!") and Cody x Lani is a pretty cool pairing.
Spoiler Below
(It was hinted at, right? :/)

I just have one question...where are Lani's parents? o_o; I remember her telling Cody about the whole Z/Geek thing, and bringing up the topic of her parents. *checks DVD*

EDIT 1: Well. I just made a theory after sitting and thinking for a few seconds. Z must be Lani's uncle on her mother's side since Lani has a different last name from Z (Topanga's his last name;Aliikai is her's).
