This really fracked me off. Any wonder the country's in such a sorry state.
I guess everyone's forgotten about "hugs, not drugs". :[

wow...heres a little gem from that article:

Coulter said she and her husband told their daughter to go ahead and serve her detentions because the only other option was a day of suspension for each skipped detention.

"We don't agree with it, but I certainly don't want her to get in more trouble," Coulter said.

well THAT will certainly learn 'em last time i looked submission solved nothing (cough Neville Chamberlain cough)

heres another one:

"Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, reflects poor judgment, and brings discredit to the school and to the persons involved."

i submit that there is nothing "in poor taste" if both (female) students are good looking (lol j/k)

You know, there is a law on the books in England saying that any Scotsman carrying a bow and arrows inside the city walls of York may be legally killed...but you just can't enforce such a law! Same here, if something is ridiculous to the point of being offensive it should be stricken from the books. end of story.

Yeah, it's a serious discredit. Who wants to get a reputation as someone who's friendly, open, affectionate, or (gasp) caring?

I just heard this on the news today, and it also makes me very sad. Her friend had recently lost a loved one!! What is wrong with this school?? What on earth happened there in the past to force such a rule?? Absolutely ridiculous.

This gives me another reason not to send any future kids (if I ever get married) to a public school. Seems like a lot of negative things that didn't happen during my days in school, are happening in today's society. Not being able to embrace someone is pathetic.

Private schools aren't any better. I was sent to two; the first wasn't too bad, although since it was an all-male school, displays of affection were viewed very suspiciously, at best. The second one was a hellhole run by incompetents. Oh, I learned a lot there, but not the lessons they wanted me to learn. I don't know what my parents paid for that place or what they were thinking when they sent me there, but I guarantee you, it wasn't worth it.
