Default Anti-Virus Programs

There's been some discussion as to what anti-virus programs people use and like in other threads but I wanted to make a thread just for that because my Norton runs out in nine days and I do NOT want to renew with them. Can anyone throw some suggestions for better programs my way? This is for GM too because when his runs out he doesn't want to renew either, although that won't be for a while. We aren't specifically looking for anything free, paid subscriptions are fine. I have two computers and he has one; we usually subscribe separately but if we'd get some kind of awesome deal for three computers that's fine too. Thanks.

I'm currently using AVG Free Edition on my laptop, which works well. The program updates about once per week, give or take, and has caught a few things trying to sneak in. Pretty easy to use. My main system no longer goes online so I uninstalled both Norton and Spy Sweeper with Antivirus. (Interestingly, uninstalling Norton set off a Spy Sweeper alert. No idea why.) Spy Sweeper often found things that didn't belong here, albeit mostly cookies, but wasn't able to get rid of a few things that are probably still present, specifically a Fujif-Gen trojan. To the best of my memory Norton never found anything of any importance and I was happy to uninstall it. As a bonus, uninstalling it cut my Sims game load time in half. My laptop came with McAfee installed but that's long gone. It had a rude habit of trying to perform scans without permission and I was never able to convince it to knock it off so I don't miss it, and at $60.00+ per year I never will. I'd say take a look at AVG; it's free and it works.

I've used AVG Anti-Virus for a long time now, and I don't have any intention of installing something else, either.

Interesting topic. I use PC Cillin. It's slow, but, it gets the job done, I guess.

It seems two people already mentioned AVG.

I use the Anti-Virus and it does what it's supposed to.

AVG here, much thanks to Ord. (Thank you Ord!)

I had Norton on my old laptop, but I never paid for it. I don't know if it was an older free version or what, but I never worried about it. I never got a virus on my old laptop, although I don't remember it doing much either.

My parents have MacAfee on theirs, but it came free with their internet service. It seems to work well, too.

Thanks for the replies so far. We definitely have looked at AVG, but as I recall the paid version looked better than the free. (It might depend on the computer, I would want more protection on my laptop and less on my desktop.) Keep the replies coming, I appreciate it. Does anyone use Avast?

We used to use Avast, but we now use Eset NOD32. I'm not sure what's it like in the US, but here in Australia, we've had no problems with viruses or worms of any kind.
