Default Monterey Pop

There are a few of you folks who know of this festival that was put on, out of Papa John Phillips pocket over 40 years ago. It was the precursor to Woodstock, Altamont, Isle of Wight, and California Jam. I wanted to bring this up because I have the 40th Anniversary Issue of the fest on DVD. Aside from all the fantastic performers (Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Who, et al), I listened to an awesome song from singer/songwriter Laura Nyro, called "The Poverty Train." I never realized how powerful this piano tune was. Sadly, she passed away from I do believe ovarian cancer in 1998(?).

If you were familiar with this festival, check out the DVD; it even has the "outtake performances (The Association, Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, Butterfield Blues Band, Qick Silver Messenger Service, Big Brother and Holding Company (with Janis Joplin), Blues Project, Country Joe and the Fish, and much much more!
