Default WOW! TPiR gives away $1 Million

CCook50 and I were amazed (not only because we're members here, but also at golden-road.net) to see and learn that Adam Rose, a pre-school teacher from Santa Barbara County, California (am I correct, CCook?) became the first ever $1 Million-plus winner in the history of The Price Is Right on Friday (2/22) in Drew Carey's first "Million Dollar Spectacular" on CBS. For the uninformed, Drew replaced Bob Barker after 35 years.

All Mr. Rose did was bid within $1,000 on the showcase he bid on, and not only did he win both showcases, but also a bonus of $1 million. The final haul (including the $20K he won in the primetime version of "Grand Game") was over $1.1 million including a hybrid SUV and a Cadillac. Congrats to Mr. Rose on his record haul off CBS' biggest win ever, also the fifth highest one time win in TV history as well.

Adam's take was $1,153,908, the largest winnings total in the 52-year history of the show (for the uninitiated, The Price Is Right began in 1956 in New York City with Bill Cullen as host and ran to 1965. The current version on CBS has been on since 1972).

It was quite a sight, and Drew Carey did what Bob Barker didn't since the Million Dollar Spectaculars started in 2003. And Howie Mandel couldn't even give away $1 million on his show, Deal Or No Deal, even with half the suitcases loaded with a million each. (Admittedly, a contestant had a $1 million suitcase but chose to bail out.)
