Found This Last Friday Night
I just now got around to getting some pictures and editing them down to size, due to some nasty weather we've had. I found this little guy in the middle of the road, in the middle of nowhere, last Friday night while out "road cruising" to look for snakes. I don't know if he's the offspring of a feral cat that his mama either dropped while avoiding an oncoming car, or who got lost following her, or if someone deliberately dumped him. I suspect the latter, because he's really sweet and friendly, totally unafraid of anything, and even at this young age, feral kittens are usually little spit-fires, hissing and biting if caught. This little boy is about five-six weeks old, I'm estimating, due to him still having blue eyes. I saw his eye-shine on the road, and thought he was a baby possum or a rat as I got closer, then he started to move towards the car, and I could actually here him meowing from inside the car with the radio on. He just ran right up to me when I got out. There were no houses for at least a mile in any direction. When I got him home, he was really dirty and covered in fleas, so he had to have a bath(make that TWO baths)immediately. He's way too young to put any sort of flea killing drops on, so I had to bathe him in Joy dishwashing liquid and then literally pick the stunned fleas off with tweezers and drop them in alchohol. I wasn't sure if he was even old enough to eat yet, but fortunately he can, if I soften the cat food up with hot water and mince it up with a fork. He still wants to nurse, though, and he'll suck on a towel or bedspread if I let him.
Now, I guess I'm gonna have to come up with a name for this little booger-any suggestions? pitbulllady Last edited by pitbulllady; 07-01-2007 at 06:21 PM. |

Aww. Okay my off-the-top-of-my-head suggestion is Koda, simply because there's something bat-like about his face and ears in that first picture, so I instantly thought of Batty Koda from Ferngully. But that's all I can think of. I'm lousy at naming pets; the tarantula I got in September still doesn't have a name, though we've been calling her "Resident" because of all the mail we get for "Resident" - we figured *someone* should be the recipient.

Awww! What an adorable 'lil bugger. He sounds just peachy! Much nicer then either of my cats. Did he fuss at all when you gave him that bath? My cats make a huge fuss whenever I try to bathe them, which I merely do with a wet washcloth!
As far as names go. I ain't a wizz at naming animals. I named my first cat Topper in loving memory of my dog, and because the cat likes to lay on top of things (even if it is normal cat behavior), and I named my second cat Sibby because I was making weird nosies at her when I first got her, and the noise she responded most to was "Sibby". Perhaps you should wait a little longer to name it. It's always nice to have it's name reflect it's attitude, so maybe you should see what it likes to do. He actually didn't fuss as all when I gave him a bath, really seemed more like he enjoyed it! I guess maybe it was just such a relief to get all those fleas off him, that he didn't care about the water. He seems to pretty much take everything in stride. His ears won't always looks like that, though-he's just so young that they haven't stood up all the way yet(opposite of a Scottish Fold, which starts out with ears standing and then they fold over when they're about six weeks old). I've run out of animal names over the years, unfortunately, though I sorta do like "Koda". I'm having to keep him away from my other cats until I can get him to the vet for a checkup and blood tests, to make sure he doesn't have any of those nasty and usually-fatal cat diseases, like Feline Leukemia, which cats can carry for years without symptoms. All my cats live indoors, so they're not exposed to things, so this one will have to live inside, too. It's just too dangerous for cats outdoors around here.

Holy Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! That cat is such the little cutie.
And he doesn't mind water, he must be like one of my mom's cats who will literally cry and cry and cry to be let into the hot and steamy dishwasher after it has finished running. Or crawl around in the tub after someone has had a shower.

Wow! He didn't fuss at all? That's... amazing! That is one cool cat.
Hmmm, I just can't get over that's cats face! It's incredible! Heres another thought on names, it's always fun to name animals the exact opposite of what they are. For example, one of my friends named his cat... Mouse. |

I suggest "Old Bloo eyes" for a name since it has those nice blue eyes. Monty |

Really?!, Mouse is the name of my older brother's cat as well. A cute little black thing who is very shy and quiet, which is most likely why she was named the way she was.

For some reason when I look at him, I just get food nicknames like Butterscotch or something. He is so DAMN cute it's not even funny , seriously, that's one of the cutest little cats I have ever seen. And man those blue eyes of his.
Speaking of blue eyes, you can maybe call him Mickey like Mickey Blue eyes. Or maybe Stripes or Kit like short for kitten or something. Or maybe call him Hawk, since his body colors are similar to that of a hawks. Those are the best i can come up with, don't ask me where they came from cause they just popped in.

That cat's cuteness is blinding me. Awwwwwwwww
As for names? I'll suggest something like Monster (just not actually "Monster", because I can't actually think of an original name right now lol), just because I think naming cute, little things something totally opposite is cute. |
