Default Happy 70th birthday...

...to Bugs Bunny!

His first official cartoon, Tex Avery's A Wild Hare was released on this date in 1940. There were several cartoons pre-dating this that featured a wise-acre rabbit that many think to be a Bugs prototype, but A Wild Hare was the first with Mel Blanc delivering the iconic "What's up, doc?' line.

70 years old and still the very best at what he does. Bugs is a timeless classic.

Bugs Bunny still rocks. This I didn't realize until today...my mother shares the same birthday as Bugs. How cool is that?

Hooray for the carrot chewing comic genius whose many exploits keep me entertained even to this very day.

Two editions of A Wild Hare exist. The original print had Elmer guessing Carole Lombard in Bugs' little game of "guess who." Lombard died suddenly afterwards, so when the cartoon was reissued as a Blue Ribbon Merrie Melodies film two years later, Barbara Stanwyck was dubbed over Lombard's name.
