Sound Card Help! - Never Forgotten: a Foster's Home Community

Hey guys. I need some help.

I'm planning on switching sound cards. The one I have on my new computer (Realtek) is a pain, because the games I play (Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in particular) sound awful, and I can't record from the TV in stereo (ie; the sound records from the left, and not both the left and right). I'm planning on replacing it with the sound card from my old computer (Creative Sound Blaster), but do I have to uninstall the Realtek one first before I install the Creative Sound Blaster one?

REALTEK SUCKS.

Anyways, if you're talking about the sound card that's built into your computer, then what you have to do is, go into your BIOS and turn the built in one off, then remove its driver. If you don't disable the built in card in BIOS the computer will keep "finding" it and reinstalling its driver. I can't remember if you install the new one before or after doing this though. I think its before but I could be wrong.

Do a Google search and try to find a good article on this before doing anything. Its been ages since I replaced my built-in card with a PCI. Try Googling "replace built in sound card" or something like that.

I think I should make this a bit clearer: my new computer is a HP Workstation, custom made by a friend of ours. Are the sound card in HPs usually built-in or not?

I think there's usually a sound card built into a motherboard. I think you'd better be sure what you've got before you try to do anything.

And regardless I think you'll get more info doing a Google search than hoping someone on here can help you. Or try someplace like techsupportforum.com.
