One of my favorite Japanese "guy-in-a-rubber-monster-suit" movies is getting a sequel...40+ years later.
"Uchu daikiju Girara", or "The X from Outer Space"/"Big Space Monster Guilala" came out in 1967 and the sequel is scheduled to be released this summer (
article here). I notice that they don't expect to need more than a handful of months to make the whole thing.
That's encouraging really, hopefully they won't try to make a "better" film than the original. That would ruin
everything.
GM and I saw "The X..." about ten years ago when we randomly rented the tape and I have been looking for a copy ever since with no luck. To my surprise I saw it listed on my TiVo so of course I will record it and transfer it to DVD (although it may go to DVD now in light of the sequel's release). I still can't believe there will be a sequel. I wonder when we'll get it here. If it goes to theatres (like maybe at the Crest downtown) we are SO going to see it.
