Default S3 Cuckoo for Coco Cards

A really old but fun episode; I'm curious whether anybody could tell me what the joke is with Gumbo, the "shady" monkey card trader with cinder blocks for feet. He asks for a ton of gum from Bloo, and in the end credits, he is shown floating high up in the sky using the gum bubble.

Is it supposed to be some movie or pop culture reference? I just didn't get the joke.

As much as it amused me, this had always puzzled me somewhat too, though Nathander did suggest a possible explanation for it in this thread. You'll have to scroll down a bit to find it, since I'm afraid I don't know how to link to specific posts:

Thanks, JJ. Your searching skills, or memory, far exceed mine

The question in OP has been answered, but I'll add that this episode is a viewing pleasure. It's in B+ tier.
