No offense, but *le sigh* I am seriously worn out on opinions about what is what whenever it comes to trends, especially "definitions" of them. These are mainly based on personal opinions and limits, so they change from person to person, hence there really is no definition of such a thing.

My bottom line is do/think/look as you freakin' want... everyone has a right to be happy. Who am I to judge? Who is anyone to judge? Who made anyone the supreme authority of opinions?

Like I said, no offense, this isn't a stab at you... just a stab at culture for feeling the need to scrutinize every single part of life and classify everything. It's so limiting and senseless. I keep myself happy by asking "Will all this absolutely matter in 10 years?" The answer is always "Probably not".

I can understand why emos and other similar trends piss you off. And I guess I know how it feels, since I have to put up with the whole reggaeton craze that just pisses me off.

But I do agree with scary dreams; I'm SICK of society's fascination with tearing down and mocking everything that doesn't fit their twisted perception of what's "acceptable". My frustration extends far beyond the emo label, but since I'd completely derail this thread if I expressed myself in full, I'll stay on-topic.

I'm starting to believe that the people who whine about and mock "emo" are more annoying than the "emos" themselves. I'm especially talking about the idiots who actually think jokes relating to crawling and Linkin Park are still funny.

This doesn't include you, kay, since at least you can tell apart your hatred of the music and style from the actual people who like them.

I just say, "meh" and keep walking. Do as you please, but I think anyone following a trend is wasting their time.

I don't think anyone can be truly original in the way they dress. Clothes are clothes. A shirt will always be a shirt. Pants will always be pants. Shoes will always be shoes.

I don't know very much about these sort of things, and if I do know "something," it's probably not even true. In fact, I don't even know what I'm thinking. I guess I just live in my own little world.

I don't give things like this much thought. But I do believe that people shouldn't lose their identity to conforming. Or maybe just be who you really are. Don't conform just so you can "fit in" and be "cool" and "popular." To me, identity theft isn't just losing personal information because someone stole your social secuirty number and all that kind of stuff. To me, identity theft is losing your personal uniqueness by conforming to the rules of society.

I don't think I've every met a "goth" or an "emo" in person, so I'm probably contradicting myself left and right.

Personally, I thnk Kzinistzerg is right.

I agree with everyone above- be who the heck you want to be.

Yes, I might come in to school wearing a Phantom of the Opera t-shirt one day and be labeled a "theatre geek". I might wear a Holister sweatshirt and get labled "prep". I might wear a Snoopy t-shirt and get labeled a class clown.

I don't care what people think of me. I don't care if half the school thinks I'm weird because I wear high-tops (which is labeled "goth" at my school) with prep clothes. Big deal. I wear what I want.

I don't feel the need to be classified under one category. Classification is stupid in this case. I'm just me.

With the whole emo thing, modern emo has differenciated from it pretesessor. If you are emo, more power to you, if no the same applies. With the whole making fun of emo kids: I do it, only to mess with what friends of mine are the old emo and new. It is funny, and here is a good example: go on google and search for the emorangers. It is funny.

With being labeled, I am always labeled an old fashioned punk. I accept that because I don't really like the new "punk". I listened to the Ramones when I was in diapers. And being classified is alright, you can never escape it, don't try.

Well, that's what I was TRIYNG to say, but you said it better... I try to ignore the whole thing because I'm worn out on people making such a huge deal about it. Like I said, everyone has the right to be happy and do what they want, and if that's what they're doing, the more power to them.

I can't wait for a volatile topic such as this to start a WWIII. And it will lol.

With all due respect, I think there are plenty of people in the world who have forfeited the right to be happy because they did what they wanted to. I don't think I need to cite specific examples here.

All that aside, this whole emo/goth/punk thing is just.. OLD. People will grow OUT of it eventually as they age or mature. It's just another part of life and being some awkward teenage kid.

Just a question: how exactly is identifying with a social group with its needle stuck in "angst" supposed to give somebody an iota of happiness? If somebody can give me an answer to that, I'll sleep soundly tonight.
