5. Super Mario Bros. -
I'm sorry, but the game is absolutely classic. It was my own introduction to video games, and for that I'll forever be thankful.
4. Final Fantasy VII -
My first foray into videogame RPGs. While I do believe it to be overrated, I do think it definantely left a mark on the RPG market in America and helped save it from stagnation. ANd it's a great game, to boot.
3. Shadow Hearts -
Incredible (and incredibly overlooked) somewhat early PS 2 RPG. It features a compelling storyline and characters, a well done soundtrack, and plenty of wonderful, Lovecraftian monster designs.
2. Xenosaga (Entire Series) -
I count the entire series in this because I believe it to be simple one of the single most ingenius games ever conceived. It was basically what Evangelion SHOULD have been.
1. Final Fantasy VI -
While I would play VI after VII, when it would have been considered "outdated", I still find VI to be the shining jewel of the series. I think it definantely had one of the best casts of characters ever assembled, an epic storyline, incredible graphics for the time, and an absolutely superb soundtrack.
Oh, and while Sephiroth from VII was a great villain, he doesn't hold a candle to Kefka from VI. Period.
