Ultraman Monsters (image-heavy post)
You know, Ultraman has, in some form or another, been on the air almost continously for nearly forty years. Each episode has its own giant rubber-suited monster, and when you think about it that's pretty impressive. Sure, sometimes they took shortcuts (one monster was obviously a godzilla costume spray-painted gold with a frill around its neck), but my hat is off to anybody who can design, fund, and build.
With that in mind, I have to wonder. What does each monster say about the people who designed them? What can be gleaned from their varied appearances? To this end, I have selected a few monsters and tried to state what their design says about them. I used toy pictures, because I can't be bothered to remember all their names (and they're not easy to remember. Gan-Q? Gatanozoa? Astromons? Pedoreon?). Also, please do not tell me about how "disrespectful" this is to a "grand cultural tradition." It's okay to joke about things. Also, anybody who hung around me at SDCC 2007 probably recognizes these guys: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster01.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster02.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster03.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster04.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster05.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster06.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster07.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster08.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster09.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster10.jpg |
It's time for Part 2!
I would like to once again stress that these are all actual monsters from the Ultra series of TV shows. Even the very next picture. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster20.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster21.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster22.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster23.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster24.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster25.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster26.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster27.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster28.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../monster29.jpg |

I must have seen a few of them on MXC's Halloween Mascots vs. Monsters episode a couple years ago under made-up names. One of them was Calmulica, the last one in post #4 was the Queerwig, the little bugger that made teenagers gay.

Finally, Brian! I was worried. :D

And yes, "Brian" is somewhat of an inside joke. ...Okay, it's an entirely inside joke. |
Now that was a brilliant session of interpreting monsters! I would love to see you tackle Power Rangers next, Ridureyu.8D

I also think one of them in that Monsters vs. Mascots show was Allahzilla Babaganoosh.

Those are pretty funny. I especially like "I like panda bears."
