Sizzly outlet!
So yes, the other day, I heard a sizzle coming from the general direction of my compy 3000, but the computer was off. I inspected and smelled burning plastic, so I unplugged it all. Nothing works over there now, so I had someone savvy with electronics (I surely didn't want to get zapped) check the wall to find that as the house settled, it settled on the wire leading to that outlet. It cut the wire and melted the plastic, and it had shot sparks. You can see on the inside of the wall where the sparks burned it!
I'm SO happy I still have a freaking HOUSE left after that! :wiltshock: What if I wasn't home and it had caught fire?! It's an old house, so it's made me scared for the other possibly faulty wiring elsewhere in the house. Of course, with no socket for the computer, I'll not be on NF as much as I've been of late until I get the wire fixed, but I'll get on as much as possible still at school. |
Dang, I'm just glad nothing serious happened. Get that wiring fixed fast, okay? :)

Jeez! Glad you're okay and glad you caught it before something serious happened!

Man, that is SCARY! You do know that problems with the electrical wiring are the number one cause of house fires, right? And the number one cause of electrical problems that cause house fires are rodents, like rats or squirrels, gnawing through wires, creating shorts. I would have a certified electrician check out all the wiring in the house if I were you, and check the fuse or breaker box as well, and possibly install a breaker that will automatically kick out if there is a short and it overloads. You came VERY close to having your house burn down!

Nice points there, pbl. I'm sorry to hear this, but yeah, definitely get the wiring fixed ASAP.

Yikes! That doesn't sound good at all. :wiltshock: :wiltshock:
My mom has recently been worried about the portable heater in our house causing a fire. She has me make sure it's off every time we go out... ... Did I leave the heater on? |
Scary stuff. Glad that you (and your house) lived to tell the tale.
|
yowza! :wiltshock: Hope your wiring gets fixed soon.

Get that wiring fixed soon!
