Episode Disscussion: House of Bloo's (8/13/2004)
In honor of the two year anniversary of the show, let's discuss* the episode(s) that started it all, and introduced such words as Foster's, Mac, Bloo, Herriman, Coco, Wilt, Frankie, Duchess and Terrence into our everyday vocabulary.
Persoanlly I thought it was a fitting introduction to a great series as it was the right mix of humor, action and drama, allthough in my opinion they were able to top it several times over the course of four seasons, but without making major changes from all the elements of the show that were introduced in HOB. (*Personal thoughts, things we may have missed etc...) |
First and, for me at least, still the best. This one had everything and in just the right balance. I didn't see it until about a few days before the premire of "Mac Daddy" and by then had it built up in my head as a major media event when it finally reran one morning. Doing that leads to a letdown most of the time; this wasn't one of those times. It really blew me away. :)

Ah, the pilot, how I love it so. Bloo's voice has gotten higher since then. I believe I saw it when it first came out, although I could be completely wrong. Anyways, it totally encompasses everything that Foster's is. Perfect introduction.
|
Lots of things change from the pilot in every episode. All of the changes made, I'm happy with, though. Bloo was much more innocent and "pure" in House of Bloos, did you notice? He was still a bit of a truth-bender (liar), but he wasn't as devious, insensitive, and mischevious as he is presently.
"I am not a butler." |
Yes, but also he didn't have any TIME to do anything. He pretty much spent the entiere time running form the big thingie which I forgot the name of or th girl or terrence. When he wasn't he was sad.
Yeah, his voice got higher. Also Mac's mouth dosn't move all over the place any more. And Mac really sounded like a little kid in the pilot. However, the pilot is really well done. They had the music pefect. A great start for a great series. |
I noticed the voice changes too! I watched House of Bloo's after watching a lot of the later episodes, and when it came to the part where Coco was asking Bloo if he wanted juice and Bloo said, "Yes," I was like, "Whoa! What happened?" But the voices are still good. And House of Bloo's was good, too. A nice, touching story of a little boy who must give up his best friend and how they are reunited in the end.
|
Just re-watched the pilot. The music is really, really, really well done. Methinks I would pay for a conglomeration of the music used. I mean, and the music used later in the series, ebcause it's all really good.

I actually didn't see the FULL pilot until last week (*blushes*). I only saw bits and pieces before that.
I taped it... I put it on while babysitting, and my brother said "What's wrong with Mac's voice?" I cracked up... It was great. I DO wish I would have seen the whole thing before getting into the series, but hey, it was easy to figure out. It was fitting- a great intro to the show and to the characters. I REALLY liked Frankie in it... you saw her being sweet, but you also saw the difference when she;s arguing with Mr. H. As far as pilots go (and I've seen a ton- the WORST was Lizzie McGuire, and I loved that show for years) I give it five stars. Now, my mom... She's another story. She's seen the pilot three times and still doesn't get it. -Marty 8-) |
My, my the pilot, wondreful memories there. Well I enjoyed it very much. But what I really liked about it was the creativity of each diffrent character. Never before have I seen such colorful chracters. 8-) :) :D ;) :-[

Ah, House of Bloos. One of the best pieces of art I've ever seen:) It's 90 minutes (with commercials) of pure enjoyment. Everything's changed so much since the pilot, but it's a good change. It shows how the characters evolve over time, which you really don't see in many cartoon series.

Pilot episode was the best!
This ep was awesome because it showed the better side of Bloo, the close friendship between the two, and had a little more angst then your average episode. I liked it a lot. Of course Bloo's deeper voice just sounds weird now, I like his higher-pitched, squeaky little vocalizations much better.
It's cool seeing how the show has progressed and improved, and yet, many things remain the same. Very cool ep. :) |
"House of Bloos"...in my opinion the best episode of Foster's. You have to have some type of respect for it because it's the one that started it all! XD I thought it was much more story-driven than some of the other episodes and it really did a good job with introducing us to the characters. But yeah, it DOES show how much the characters have evolved from then until now and that's why it's so great. :)
|
Ah, yes, the pilot that started it all...*sniff*
Things have changed, haven't they? :D The voices got higher as time flew by. |
Before the dark times... before Cheese, before Bloo's monstruous appetitive of Abusive Doom(tm), and before Goofball John McGee. :P
Still a great pilot. |
It was a great introduction to the show. Laid a solid groundwork for the series (a groundwork that was further laid by "Store Wars").
Though it does seem weird how most of the voices have changed a bit (though DeLisle and LaMarr's voicework are remarkably consistent between "Bloos" and the current season). In any event, it's got a great story and some nice humor. Bloo saying "Madame Foster?! You're alive?!" is one of the series' best quotes. |
Ah, the pilot. It has provided me some of my favorite moments. I didn't see it for a LONG time, and when I finally got ahold of it, it was magical. Although it is probably the saddest episode, especially when you're familiar with the series before hand. For example, when Bloo tells Mac, "Don't worry, buddy, I'll be right here. I'm not going anywhere," I was just... :( , because I knew the inevitable outcome. Bloo thinking Mac had abandonned him was pretty depressing too (in a good way), because he just wouldn't talk for a good portion of the time. And Bloo not waggling his lips about something or other is slightly unsettling.

If you want to talk about dark times, watch the last two or three seasons of FOP. Foster's? Yeah, Bloo's getting nastier and all, Cheese (okay, and I'll admit Goo, and I think she rocks), and I think just about everyone hated Goofball... But at least no one's marriage is going down the toilet (*coughCosmoandWanda'scough*)!!! "monstruous appetitive of Abusive Doom"... That's great... Ha. -Marty 8-) |
dude: is Bloos voice different here?

anyway, it is deeper, but i cant really tell a diffrence besides that. |
I like the movie. When I first heard of it, I'm not too intrested, until I saw it. At first I thought it was cute, but later on, I fell in love with the show, and that's how I became a Foster fan!:D If it wern't for the Pilot episode, I won't be in this forum right now.
Oh, and I find the Pilot episode cool. I like Wilt's voice in that one better.:D And Wilt's tour is cool, cute, funny, and not to mention catchy! (To me, that is):D |

And I don't think I'd include Goofball as part of the "dark times".... I don't think any dark times have occurred yet but if they had, I wouldn't include Goofball. He was obnoxious, yeah, and almost everyone hated him, but I think we can reasonably assume he will never be so much as mentioned again, let alone be a recurring character. It was a bad episode, nothing more. He won't be blighting the show by becoming part of the regular cast (like Goo.... okay, just kidding, but I just am not terribly fond of her). And yeah, Bloo's voice seemed a lot deeper. Sometimes it takes a bit for voice actors to find their "groove" when voicing a particular character. |

So everyone: bringing back dead threads is fun! It's like making a zombie thread! Yaaay zombies! :D |
i don't know...zombies are usually pretty scary
anyway, so its the normal Bloo voice but before he got it down or something? |
Zombies can be annoying because they come back repeatedly from death. And they always guard the source of their power to no end. That's why I became a knight. Or maybe not. :P
My first thoughts about FHFIF...well, let's just say the behavior of Mac's mother makes me glad of the existence of episodes like "Go Goo Go." :mfoster: |
Well, I didn't see this episode 'till I'd seen the majority of the episodes which have been aired as of this date. :P And I loved it! Some parts were a little superfluous for someone who's seen the series like I had (the Bloo and Mac being sad part. I knew EXACTLY what they were going through, and how they would react, cause I already knew the characters), it was still top notch, however. I loved Wilt's tour, and the "You're tall" comment. Cause that's what I noticed first about the guy. Originally, I assumed he was imagined as is (people can imagine some weird stuff, and he really didn't look bad), so, yeah. And, it helps gain some understanding of Mr H that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.:herriman: Jeez, from all my posts, it sounds like I'm a major Herriman fan! I never considered it 'till now, he just reminds me very strongly of my father, although he is also a lot like Madame Foster:mfoster: . Also, the Madame F being dead joke was pretty funny for one who was in on it, "OMG, they're supposed to think she's dead!" I think Bloo is a "true freind", in that he'd do anything to stay friends with Mac, which, as I've mentioned before, is creepy if you think it through to it's logical conclusion.

Today, the 3rd of May, besides being my birthday, is also the day last year when the final five episodes were aired (although I think they must have all been finished sometime in mid-2008, and the first three were shown in different parts of the world earlier)- neither the less we can say that is the day the show ended!
To mark this, I thought I'd talk about this, the very first piece of Fosters! I was never into the show back in 2004, but about a year ago I decided to watch this in it's entirety, and I was blown away! Even today I still rate it as my favorite and everything about this fits perfectly together. We meet all the characters, see the house (which seems more mysterious), learn the premise of IF, a great villain (& Terrance at his most intimidating), and all loose ends are tied up Although it hasn't really aged at all (expect for perhaps the Game Boy Advance in Mac's bedroom), it is of course notably different from later episodes, in terms of voices, pacing and animation (the first season & a few episodes form the 2nd have this, what I call the old Fosters feel) |

Definitely a great start to the series. I need to watch this movie again. Loved it.
