Mattel Toys Next Year

There'll be some toys from Mattel out next year. I hope the toys are good & not crappy PVCs. I'm a figure collector so some Foster guys to display next to my Zim & SW figures would be awesome!

Voxxyn 09-30-2006 08:43 PM

They better have some good Frankie figures. Better. If they don't, I'll be heartbroken.

Thornwhistle 09-30-2006 08:45 PM

I'd give up a pint of blood for a Wilt action figure.

Invader Bloo 09-30-2006 08:56 PM

If he's acurately scaled I'd get him an a heart beat. What I want in the first 2 waves-
Wave 1:
Bloo
Mac
Wilt
Frankie
Ivan & Stevie

Wave 2:
Coco
Mr.Herriman & Maddam Foster
Cheese
Eduardo
Goo

Sparky 09-30-2006 09:55 PM

I don't know WHAT I am going to do when all this merchanside comes out. I have a single shelf for my Foster's stuff now but that won't be enough come next year. There's no more wall space for shelves in my room, and all the wall space I had in the living room is occupied with our ZIM figures. I guess there's always the dining area!

Btw the GBA game comes out in October. Weak-looking or not I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to be putting a GameSlave 3 logo on my GBA and carrying it around on Halloween to go with my Gaz outfit, so maybe while I pretend to play Vampire Piggy I'll actually be playing Foster's, lol. ;)

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 06:35 AM

You don't have to worry about Zim figures, the company that sold figures is (sadly :( ) closed. More room for Foster's!

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 08:25 AM

Those seems like good wave line-ups, though don't forget Madame Foster... the thing is, when I first skimmed my eyes over it, I briefly thought it was a GENUINE ANNOUNCEMENT of what we would be seeing next year.

Sigh. I still have a horrible feeling that there won't be any Frankie figures. :(

I think they'll have some Frankie stuff, although not as much as you and I want. As for what type of merchandise Mattel will be releasing, that's anyone's guess at this point. Guess we'll just have to sit and wait patiently for 2007... and try not to go out of our minds... ;)

Foster's Figures

Hi, guys ...

I've been collecting for years! My focus primarily is on female action figures, but I've got others. I'm telling you right now, if they've got wierd little Hai Hai Puffy Ammi Yumi figures on the shelves in drug stores (yes, drug stores), believe me, they BETTER have the Foster's guys out pretty soon. I mean, there is even a set of Ami Yumi cats that you draw on. They are really wierd looking. And God only knows there are kazillions of Powerpuff merchandise out there.

So, I'm voting YES for this big time soon! Will keep my eyes on the net.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 09:40 AM

The thing that I'm truly worried about is that the Mattel toymakers will think that the "Foster's Five"(Mac, Bloo, Wilt, Eduardo and Coco) and heavily-hyped recurring favorites like Cheese and Goo are the stars of the show--and thus forget about doing any Frankie figures, because they'll believe that she's an unimportant and meaningless secondary character by comparison.

Or, if they do have a Frankie figure, something tells me that it'll just be a cheaply made three inch figurine bundled along with Mr. Herriman and Madame Foster figurines on the same package--while the "Foster's Five" and Cheese/Goo get all the attention and lots of large-size and high-quality figures.

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 09:42 AM

My guess would be Bloos, Macs & Cheeses, will be shipped heavily. :(
Maybe 1 Frankie figure. Kids don't like her that much.:frankiemad:

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 10:09 AM

One high-quality Frankie figure is all I want. Just one. Action figure, plushie, Barbie, SOMETHING that is made with genuine talent and love behind it.

There are other characters I want to see in toy form as well, don't get me wrong, but Frankie is by far my highest priority.

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 10:10 AM

Same here. The anticipation is killing me. :P

Yeah that would be nice. But sadly, I don't expect them to gush over any major effort or profit into making a quality Frankie figure. The sad fact is that regardless of who the character is, the main cast will always get top billing.

Bloo, Mac and the trio will get the best stuff first and down the line they'd make the other slike Frankie and Mr. Herriman etc. It's a sad truth considering everyone on this board seems to have their hearts handcuffed to Frankie.

Truthfully, I would much rather have a plushie then a toy. I think a plushie would work best for capturing the animation style used to make Frankie and the others. I personally don't think a toy figure would really do Frankie justice.

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 10:31 AM

Sadly I wish Foster's would of got in someone else's hands, the SB line sucks. The only thing I bought from that line was a big talking SB. I hope Foster's gets treated better & B/M at that matter.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 10:37 AM

Mr. Marshmellow sadly furthered my fears even more... I'm starting to feel very negative and apprehensive about the Mattel promotion. :(

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 10:46 AM

Unfortunately there aren't any previews or any significant info available on the web, at least not that I can find. Don't give up hope though, we may get lucky.

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 10:58 AM

It's Mattel. They don't do minor-ish chracter like Hasbro does with SW or Joe. I've never see them do a Krabs, Plankton or Sandy toy, they're all main characters!:'(

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 11:04 AM

I hardly think Frankie is a "minor character" in any way.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 11:15 AM

That kind of perception about Frankie just angers me. I'm sorry, but I absolutely REFUSE to believe that Frankie is a minor/side character. How can the very character that basically makes sure the house is in good shape instead of utter chaos be "minor-ish"?

To me, she(and Mr. Herriman and Madame Foster) are as equally important as the so-called "Foster's Five". But unfortunately, I still feel that she'll get shafted by Mattel.

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 11:38 AM

By minor-ish I mean main but not as important as Mac or Bloo. Minor would be George Mucas or Goofball.

I totally agree with you Vox and btw it's "mallow" not "mellow". I think Frankie and Herriman and the others are just as equally important as Bloo or Mac or anyone else. I'm not saying they could run the show without Bloo or Mac.

But you get my drift. I also didn't mean to dampen your spirits about the whole toy thing, I'm just saying this because I think "realistically" that is what is going to happen. Of course that doesn't mean it will for sure happen.

They may surprise us and make a kick ass Frankie figure, I'm just saying that's a possibility that could happen. I think the technical term people would most likely associate Frankie with would be "supporting character".

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 12:44 PM

Mattel= Never kick ass figure
Too bad Palisades closed down, they could of got the license.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 01:00 PM

With regards to your earlier post; I'd be fine if they released the "Foster's Five" in the first wave, and Frankie and the other characters on a second wave. In fact, I think it could potentially a good thing, since the extra time would allow the toymakers to improve the Frankie figure--whether it be a normal toy, a plushie, or a Barbie--and ensure that it's a quality product.

My anger and apprehension was fueled(Not at you, of course) at how you said that Mattel would save the best stuff for the "Foster's Five", and how they wouldn't profit from making a well-done figure based on a so-called "supporting character". That only worsened what I previously said. That, and Invader Bloo's post about how he wished somebody else were making the Foster's toys, pretty much killed whatever hopes I had for the upcoming toys.

And personally, I don't care if the word in question is "supporting", "minor", "side", "secondary" or whatever, because the meaning remains the same. I just plain don't appreciate that perception of Frankie.

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 01:11 PM

I don't like it, either. "Secondary Character" indeed. The show wouldn't be the same without her. I'd still watch, as I like the other characters, too, but it would never have the same appeal, the same charm, as it does now. She lights up the screen like no one I've ever met before, real or otherwise. Mattel has to be able to see that; they can't be that blind. She may not get as much hoopla from them as the so-called "main" characters, but I'm fairly confident that they'll give us some pretty good stuff. And I'm still hoping for a Frankie Barbie.

Kzinistzerg 10-01-2006 01:50 PM

Well, there are characters that arent't super-duper main characters that you just couldn't run the show without. frankie, madam foster, and mr. herriman are in that category. wilt, eduardo, and coco are marignally mroe important as far as the show being itslef is, but the whole show is pretty much the adventures of Mac and Bloo; they have to be in almost all of the episodes, even if in just small amounts. Frankie and madame fosters and so aon can miss a few episodes, but consistantly doing so isn't the best.

Mr. Marshmallow 10-01-2006 02:11 PM

What I meant was I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. I agree with you, I too hate the whole side, supporting, character crap titles that are assigned to characters in shows because in some ways, it really disrespects their importantcy in the show.

I just assumed that in terms of likeylness, the Foster's 5 would get the limelight shined on them a bit more brighter then the toys being made for Madame Foster, Frankie and Herriman. Does that make it fair? No, course not. But is it possible? Yes.

Frankie's not the only character that has been perceived this way that has pissed me off. Other shows I enjoy like Dragon Ball Z, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and others have loveable characters and ones that fan deeply support, but are written off as side line guys. Like Frankie.

I personally hope they do see how important she is, and that she gets some more episodes about her. There have been only 3 episodes that followed her completely, "The Big Cheese" was a big role for her but Cheese stole the show a tad bit more then Frankie did.

I hope they do Frankie's toy justice and understand how important she is to the show, seeing as how important she is to alot of us.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 02:36 PM

Good posts by all. But I want to make it clear that my argument isn't for the writers to make Frankie the be-all-and-end-all main character, NOT AT ALL. I understand that such isn't the role for her in the show.

The point I've been trying to make from the beginning, is that I'm worried that the concept of the "Foster's Five" and the recent mega-hyping of Cheese/Goo are completely overshadowing Frankie, THUS possibly leading to her being neglected by next year's merchandising blitz. Sure, us diehard fans can see past that, and give her the appreciation she deserves. But what if the Mattel toymakers happen to be people who don't even watch the show?

If anybody from the Foster's staff or some "audience tracking" researcher of Mattel happens to be reading this, I hope that they can see just how much she means to some of us, no matter how many times she gets labeled as being a "secondary character".

Invader Bloo 10-01-2006 02:46 PM

The reason I said the other company because their toys are based for collector's & don't have "action features" which can & sometimes do ruin figures. I'm picky, you guys may all love what Mattel comes out with& I may hate it. Hopefully I'll love it. No offense, but to us Frankie is a main character. But in a ton of epsidoes she dosen't sppear. I love Frankie she's great! Not so sure about kids though.

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 02:47 PM

You do have a point, Voxxyn, and in truth I am a little worried about it. I don't think Mattel will let us down, at least not too much, but yeah, I really don't know. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. On the positive side, since the toys aren't coming out until after the annual holiday madness, they may be a little easier to get ahold of.

donna323 10-01-2006 03:01 PM

Toys

Here is a link to what we found on Cartoon Network for toys ... looks pretty bleak. As feared, it's the the basic guys, no extras. The only cool thing is that the house is fully drawn on the back of the box.

Voxxyn 10-01-2006 03:10 PM

...

Sigh.

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 03:19 PM

No, don't despair! That's just the old CN stuff, produced by Equity Marketing way back in late 2004 or early 2005. It's more for promotional considerations than anything else. I've got a set; they're not bad, but I'm sure Mattel can and will do better than that.

kageri 10-01-2006 05:08 PM

I love Frankie, and she's not "minor" by any means, and I don't want to depress anyone (I really hope they do make something for her, I'd buy it in an instant), but unfortunately I've made a highly complex series of mathematic equations about what they're probably thinking:

Popular with Tots = Money

Important, Valuable Cast Member =/= Money

Cheese, Bloo, Mac, Wilt, Eduardo = Popular with Tots

therefore we can deduce that

Cheese, Bloo, Mac, Wilt, Eduardo = Money

however I still think that

Cheese = Overused

but they don't care about that.

Kzinistzerg 10-01-2006 06:05 PM

Cheese is oversued, yes, but he'd be great as a toy.

Cassini90125 10-01-2006 10:20 PM

Imagine a Cheese plush with a voicebox; you pull the string and it says something stupid. I'd buy it, no question. :cheese:

That makes two of us... as long as they do a good job on him. I kinda wanted/didn't want the BK toys because they made him WAY too short and stubby, but it WAS Wilt, after all.

But *gasp* accurate Wilt figures? Oh man, count me in. I can spare a pint without passing out.

Voxxyn 10-02-2006 07:45 AM

EDIT: You know what, I think I'll just stop while I'm ahead. I'm sorry I've allowed myself to become so cranky and hostile over the situation, but I'm doing my best to be as cool about it from now on. The rest of you that will be fortunate to actually have their favorite characters in toy form, I just hope that they'll be good and that Mattel will do justice to them.

Invader Bloo 10-03-2006 02:29 PM

Don't give up, they may still be OK figures. Hopefully not like the crappy PVCs they give people.

billytheskink 10-03-2006 08:06 PM

We shall see. I think its great that the show will actually have some toys, it's about dang time.

Walking down aisles seeing Kids Next Door and Naruto toys every time I'm in the toy store is frustrating...
