Winter Olympics Vancouver 2010

There are only about four days left now, but has anybody been watching the Winter Olympics? I haven't been following all the individual tournaments, but I enjoy putting in on most of the time. I enjoy the Ice Hockey, the Bobsleigh and the skating, and the skiing races are good too.
I see countries like USA, Germany and Norway are topping the table, and tiny Liechtenstein get a chance to shine here!
So far, after 1 silver at Torino 2006 at the females skelington, Great Britain have so far received 1 gold in the same event, and had hopes in the ice skating and the curling. Meanwhile Ireland have yet to win a Winter Olympics medal ever! In Cool Runnings spirit, Ghana have one athlete.

I saw a little bit of the opening ceremony, but there was no sign of Emperor Coco. Does anyone here live near the Vancouver area?

(Also, does this topic belong here or Way Off Topic?)

I've been keeping an eye on the games online, mainly the hockey because I am a big fan of the sport and would love to see my home country go all the way. (The Ladies team has done it again, now it's time for the men to follow suit.)

It's been a great Winter Games. I cannot wait to see the USA vs. Canada rematch. It's definitely anyone's game.

...and it was definitely anyone's game. The ice hockey match was definitely a nail-biter. For the host nation, it was icing on the cake as Team Canada edged Team USA 3-2 with one OT. Congrats to the Canadians, and a great match from the American athletes. I don't watch the sport much, but I really enjoy watching it, and maybe I just don't give the sport enough chances.

I've paid my dues -
Time after time -
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime -
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face -
But I've come through

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world -

Without a doubt the perfect way to cap off the Vancouver Olympics with a hockey game for the ages.

Cant really say much more than that.

I'm so happy that Canada won the gold for hockey! And I'm very proud that a fellow Nova Scotian made the winning goal! That was a very close game, America, it very easily have gone the other way. Don't let anyone tell you that you didn't try.:D
Congratulations and job well done to our Canadian athletes! Thanks to them Canada made history by collecting the most gold medals in a Olympic winter game ever. The pressure they all must have been feeling must have been excruciating.

I agree, the Americans played a great game and their goalie Ryan Miller more then certainly deserved the tournament MVP nod.

I also forgot to mention, that congrats are in order to team Finland who overcame a two goal deficit to beat the Slovaks in the bronze medal game.

Watched the games every evening from day one. Loved it all. :D My favorite sports are the skating, skiing and snow boarding events. I could watch them for hours. I watched some of the others only so I could see who won.

I was unfortunately working during the last hokey game, but I'm not shy to admit, American or not, I'm SOOOOOOO happy for Canada in getting not one, but TWO gold medals in hockey!! HOCKEY!!!!!! :yeah: I loved seeing how excited my Northern Neighbors were, they were sooooooo happy and had every right to be. And I was so happy for them I even got choked up with emotion a little bit.

Man, that was a great two and a half weeks. I got more into the games this year than I think I ever have. I miss them now.

I enjoyed the games, and I could see Micheal J. Fox putting in an appearance!

Bit of an odd question, but is there such a thing as the Winter Paralympics?

taranchula 03-04-2010 05:00 PM

As a matter of fact there is, much like the summer Paralympics they take place right after the Winter games have concluded.
