Disney Buys Marvel for $4 Billion

http://comics.ign.com/articles/101/1019830p1.html

I'm not worried about this. This is actually better for Marvel so they don't go bankrupt again (they did in the '90s & that's why all of the different characters are at different movie studios. Marvel auctioned off characters to get money).

Plus, Disney said they'll let Marvel do what they want like they're doing with Pixar & like WB's been doing with DC comics.

I do wonder if we'll see Punisher in Kingdom Hearts 3 alongside Pooh Bear. 8D

GASP! Maybe Marvel will try to bring back Darkwing Duck!!!!:grin::grin:

I think it's pretty cool, although I'm not sure what to think about Spiderman partnering up with Goofy and Max. Seems a little odd. :P But I agree, I don't think this is a bad thing at all, and I'm curious to see what comes out of the whole deal.

I'm interested in how Disney is going to do future Marvel films now. The idea of Walt Disney teaming up with (for arguments sake) Paramount to do a Captain America film seems kinda interesting...

Although Walt Disney have worked with Paramount before. They distributed Robin Williams' first feature film, Popeye.

If I see anything called "Iron Mouse" or "Donald and Howard's Excellent Adventure", I'm deleting Disney from my cable box.

I'll give Disney the benefit of the doubt for now but I'm wary of this merger.

Heard about this yesterday, a right bolt from the blue.:wiltshock: It just seems like a bad omen, to be honest...I do hope that Disney do as they've done wih Pixar and continue to let Marvel do ther own thing. I'm very wary of it though.

I agree with this.

Can't say I'm a 100% comfortable about it myself. It'd be sweet however to see Pixar involved in a Fantastic Four project somewhere down the line once the rights with 20th Century Fox die out.

If a classic brand like Marvel going to be owned by anyone, then a big entertainment-centered corporation like Disney is probably best. They're aware of the long term value of a peice of art as well as consistently investing in cutting-edge projects. It's better than being owned by someone who specialises in different areas of the economy, or even worse an investment company.

edit: I just read the whole article. Hey I hadn't thought of the theme park possibilities. Wow! Watch this space!

Has anyone else seen this yet? A collection of submitted artwork combining something Disney with something Marvel. Some of the pieces are outright hilarious, some awe inspiring, others just plain wrong. 8D :P

Much thanks to none other than Lauren for pointing me to this. :lauren:

Wouldn't surprise me to see Marvel characters at Disney theme parks save for the Magic Kingdoms once their pact with Universal expires.

Mr. Marshmallow 09-03-2009 06:08 PM

To me this really doesn't bother me one way or another, so long as Disney keeps its G rated nose out of meddling with story content and movie ratings of future Marvel films and etc. then I really don't care if Disney owns them. I especially appreciate the fact they are working hard to reclaim all the other missing Marvel comics owned by other studios like Spider man, X-men, Punisher etc.

I think Marvel will be much better off with such a high roller banker like Disney keeping them financially secure and giving them lots more money to play with. Plus, they briefly hinted at the notion of actually crossing over disney with marvel..........and that would be GLORIOUS! ;D

Invader Bloo 09-04-2009 12:36 PM

Well, I'm sure Disney did this to attract boy & adult fans. So it's a safe bet the movies will be PG-13 like POTC.

I think at the most cross-overs will happen only in Disney cartoons, not Marvel comics. Like when Daffy Duck became a Green Lantern in 'Duck Dodgers'.

I demand Marvel vs. Disney NAO

Seriously, the Beast vs. Wolverine? Howard the Duck vs. Donald Duck? Stitch vs. Deadpool?

I'M THERE

Invader Bloo 09-06-2009 04:23 PM

The Beast vs Beast (from X-Men) would be better. :P

Make it Anime Stitch, and then we're getting somewhere really awesome.

Ridureyu 09-14-2009 04:19 PM

This really is no different from Warner Brothers owning DC, or Disney owning Miramax.
