RIP: TV pitchman Billy Mays

The guy who sells Kaboom cleaner and other products was found dead at his home in Tampa this morning. More here.

That guy died? That took me by surprise. Even though I never cared for the products he was pitching, R.I.P.

Geez, death after death after death. Who's next? ::)

R.I.P. Billy Mays.

some guy you dont know 06-28-2009 05:20 PM

Why are all the cool celebrities dying? He was one of the few good things on TV anymore.

RIP, man. You'll be missed.

Imaginary Light 06-28-2009 05:28 PM

Yeah, I heard about this at work today and I thought my co-workers were just joking or something. Celebrities just keep on dying and it's scary. R.I.P. Billy Mays.:(

At first I didn't believe a word of it since, after MJ's death, there were all sorts of rumors flying through the interwebs that a number of celebrities had died as if there's a major conspiracy going on.

Don't know his name, but I know his face. And his ads. OxyClean never seemed to do what it promised, but the ShamWow is pretty cool and so is OrangeGlo. :P It's still sad to lose yet another one in such a short time. RIP Mr. Mayes.

ShamWow was advertised by a different guy. I think his name was Vince.

OxyClean was why the mute button was invented. :P

^ 8D My dad got some of that stuff once. It actually worked. Yeah, it's a shame he died. Did they find out how he died?

Cassini90125 06-28-2009 11:02 PM

It's not known at present. He apparently got his head whacked during a rough landing on a flight the other day, that might possibly have something to do with it.

fosters home fan 06-28-2009 11:33 PM

Hmm, that might've done it, but you'd think he'd have died on the plane from that. Hmm. Still a shame. One of my other friends was a huge Billy Mays fan. Another friend of mine just became a fan of Billy Mays, just a day before he died. Bad luck. You become a fan of some guy, then he dies.

They said the autopsy would be done for him today. We'll have to see what happens.

Cassini90125 06-28-2009 11:43 PM

Brain injuries can take time to show. Something similar happened to actress Natasha Richardson not too long ago, although in her case it was a skiing accident. She wasn't wearing a helmet as I recall; not a smart idea.

fosters home fan 06-29-2009 08:47 AM

Hmm, that'd make sense.

Now they're saying he might've died of a heart failure (all too common these days...). Still sad, no matter how he died.

Cassini90125 08-07-2009 01:36 PM

According to autopsy results, it seems that cocaine use was a contributing factor in the man's death:

Sad, but unfortunately not all that surprising. :P
