PPG Marathon on CN, Jan. 19, 2009

Well, to add to this...

Remember Craig McCracken's series that was before Foster's? Two weeks from today (1/19), nothing but Powerpuff Girls.

This post was moved from the recent Looney Tunes Maration thread, since your post was completely off-topic and not related to Looney Tunes. Anyway, it may help, if you explained to everyone where you got the information from.

The 10th anniversary episode will air during the marathon, for those that are interested. It will air at 8 PM ET.

Newsarama interviewed Craig last week about PPG's anniversary, it's another interesting and well done interview. Of course the marathon tomorrow was mentioned to start out.

A little tid bit from it-
Quote:

NRAMA: So let’s get seriously Powerpuff-centric here. How does it feel to be talking about the 10th anniversary of their debut on Cartoon Network? When you first came up with Whupass Girls, did you ever think we’d be talking about this?

CM: : I knew I had something cool that was entertaining to watch. I didn’t know what would come of it. When I was an animation student at Cal Arts in the early 90s, the idea of selling a television show to a network just didn’t exist. No one had really done that. Yes, John K(ricfalusi) had sold his own television show but he had been working in the industry for years. He was an established veteran when he sold Ren & Stimpy. In my case, the possibility of becoming a creator just wasn’t a possibility. At the time, none of us thought that was an option. We had fantasies and pipe dreams of it, but there was no practical application at that time.

NRAMA: So was it Linda Simensky or Mike Lazzo coming up to you at that time?

CM: : We were all fortunate enough to be working at Hanna-Barbera at the time when the merger happened with Turner. Then Cartoon Network got launched in 1992. Then they started the shorts program. We were just there, kids with ideas, when they said we’re looking for ideas. Do any of you artists have ideas? It really was just good timing.
Looks like there'll be a "part two" coming, covering Foster's and Cartoonstitute. We'll have to keep our eyes on that.

I'm watching it as I type. ^_^

Lynnie 01-19-2009 03:38 PM

So am I. :) I actually started watching Foster's before I watched PPG, so I've been watching it only the last few years. And the few times CN aired it was usually on holidays (like today). So when I watch PPG I get this "holiday" feeling, I find it relaxing.

HerrimanWasHere 01-19-2009 03:53 PM

Yeah Lynnie, I'm kinda having that feeling too. Gosh...I forgot how much I use to reeeeeeeeaally love this show. The villians...so cool.

Cassini90125 01-19-2009 07:19 PM

My favorite was Him. Loved the design and the voice. :)

Luminouslolly 01-19-2009 07:25 PM

Yeeeeesssss!!! Him = <3

Oh man, I first watched this show around the time I turned ten, and I'm 17 now....so you do the math! Such an awesome show, and it's so great that Craig moved on with Foster's. Sadly, since that's almost over, I wonder what he'll come up with next.

I used to have a PPG magazine. It was so awesome, but I remember throwing it away after some time. I sure wish I hadn't! :sadbendy:

After seeing the Powerpuff Girls for the first time in years, it's sad to know that it's no longer regularly aired on CN. I particularly liked the episode "Telephonies" where the Gangreen Gang crank calls the Powerpuff Girls, and in the end, Fuzzy, Him, and Mojo Jojo beat the snot out of the Gangreen Gang. Tonight's 10th anniversary episode was good too:

Mojo Jojo doing the whole dramatic prairie dog routine in the beginning was hilarious.

Oh my Flapjack on a stick! I loooooooved the new episode. I would post my real thoughts on it...but I'm afraid I may offend some people by what what going through my head during the first ingingsay Mojo scene...

But yes, I was laughing through the whole episode! I'll say this, it was worth watching the marathon all day just to see that new one.

Another interview I've got to share. :D This time by Cold Hard Flash with Craig and PPG's animation director Eric Pringle. Another very well done interview, full of fun tid bits, including a small bit of Foster's info.

Regarding the new episode "Powerpuff Girls Rule!"-
Quote:

In this newly-minted episode, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup return to their familiar roles, as do dozens of artists from the original crew. But, with the Foster’s experience under his belt, McCracken made a few changes to the production pipeline - namely producing the entire half-hour in Flash. Taking it all full-circle, this new episode is loosely based on one of the first PPG shorts, titled Whoopass A Go-Go, which was never finished. In the earlier production, the key to the world is let loose to evil forces, who do exactly what you think they’d do in this situation. We recently had the opportunity to interview Craig, where we cover Flash-animation, pop culture, musical numbers, and his thoughts on world domination.
Followed by a question and an answer from Craig-
Quote:

AARON SIMPSON: If you ruled the world, what would be your first new law?

CRAIG McCRACKEN: STOP BEING STUPID! (to be applied as one sees fit) On second thought, that could get really out of hand. Let’s just go with free puppies for everyone.
Yay, free puppies! 8D

Do we not have an official PPG thread? I see one for PPG-Z. But this is the closest I could find for the original PPGs and I see it useless to start a thread when I just wanted to share something cute. :bubbles:

On Monday while driving around doing errands so I could get back on my feet after what happened over the weekend, a patrol car (from the Sheriff's dept) passed us, and I squealed in glee at a big stuffed Buttercup and Blossom in the rear window! I didn't see Bubbles, but it was still adorible. A cop car with two stuffed cartoon girls sitting nicely in the back window. Smiling so nicely to everyone traveling behind. :)
