Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls
 

Here they are, Lauren Faust's Solar Sisterhood! They seem to be gaining popularity (yay!), so I figured it was about time someone start a thread just for them. :lauren:

Milky Way is the sorority leader, and everyone greatly looks up to her. She likes making friends and traveling the universe to find them!

Sun is a star, and she knows it! She's got the most heavenly voice of all and won't hesitate to remind you that she really shines!

Mercury is a jock and loves to exercise. She's very fast, and despite the competition has quickly become the champion of the galaxy!

Venus is the goddess of dance! It's hard to take your eyes off this "Morning Star", but look even closer and you'll see her wittiness, too!

Moon is a brilliant poet, and her inspiration comes from her mood swings. Her talent to shine on her own almost makes her moodiness bearable.

Mars is an artist, even when it comes to her outfit! She sees the universe with a different perspective, but her weirdness is sure lovable.

Jupiter is a peace loving hippie-girl. She loves the environment, meditation, and the dozens of pets that orbit her. Particularly her dog Io and her cat Callisto.

Saturn is famous for all her rings, she's got a lot of them! But she's also known well for her parties. Attend one and she'll know how to turn a frown upside down.

Uranus is a prep, and a bit of a perfectionist. She loves science, and would like everyone to know that the scientific, and only acceptable, way to pronounce her name is "YOOR-en-us".

Neptune is Uranus' twin, but instead of books, loves the water! She likes to go with the flow, and is the most laid back member of the sorority.

Pluto is a rebel, and is known for being dark and cold, as is the rock she likes to play. But she loves all her pals to the max, and will stick up for them with brute force!

My personal favorites are Venus, Moon, Milky Way and Jupiter, because Venus, Moon and Jupiter are most like me, and Milky Way is, well, just so darned lovable! :berry: I also think Mars is real cute, and I like Uranus' outfit (I like the preppy plaid, heh). ;)

I intend this thread to be used to pass along updates about the Solar Sisterhood as they come around. And discussion about the products that we get. I certainly intend to get some eventually. I hope that's ok. :cool:

I really hope Lauren is successful with these characters, they're great. It's might be a little too cutesy for my personal tastes BUT I can appreciate the talent behind them! I wish I could draw and color like that. As Lauren knows, The Moon is my favorite, I guess partly because she's less "cute" than the other girls but mostly because I think she's glamorous and pretty...and I like poetry. I almost minored in poetry at USC. I have to say too that I'm impressed that there's a ferret character, that's unusual. The last animated ferret I can think of was the one in the 101 Dalmations series. Anyways I have a signed copy of the book, a Moon postcard, and the green Mars shirt. :terrsmile:

I've helped stump for Lauren's Galaxy Girls as well. Lauren's a true talent and a charmer to boot.

I don't know if I'll watch the show (I'll give it a try) but I do appreciate the artwork and imagination that's put into this project of Lauren's.:D

Wow this is a show, now!? That took a while, I remember reading about the Galaxy Girls last year at some point (06). I always liked Moon & Uranus (regardless of how one pronounces her name!) but they're all well-designed characters. I bet Jupiter turns out to be popular with her 'satellites'.

Of all those beautifully-designed characters, Jupiter seems to be the one most after my own heart. I'd love to have dozens of friendly animals orbiting me.

And yes, we definitely need more cartoon ferrets in this world. Delightful little creatures that rarely get any recognition, unless it's to play the bungling predator in some anthropomorphic storybook.

Btw, jekylljuice, you're right. There should be more cartoon ferrets that are positive characters. I adore ferrets. They're playful, curious, charming creatures that would translate well in cartoon form.

And also, one of the characters is named Jupiter. Interesting conincidence, given the plot of Cassini the Movie revolves around another Jupiter lurking around Never Forgotten. Just a thought, and then I'll shut up about ]Cassini's movie.

These girls rock! I love Pluto and Mars <3~ I should put the Pluto and Mars shirts on my x-mas list, they are soooo cute. Anyway, super good luck to Lauren with them :frankiesmile:

I do kind of remember reading about a possibility for a future show, possibly from Lauren's blog a while back. But I haven't heard anything about it recently. Although it could always be a possibility in the future, as of now, I think they're just characters in her book and websight. I don't think there are any serious plans on making it a show (unless someone can prove me wrong). ;)

I am sooooo wanting that Venus shirt, I like boat necklines and cap sleeves, I find them flattering. Wouldn't mind the Milky Way one, too. And I'd love me some more buttons to decorate my boring drab camel-back back pack that I use when I go hiking. I've got my Disney pins and Bloo and Cheese pins on it so far, but I must have more. I MUST!! :bloosmirk:

I learned about the Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls over a year ago, after seeing her blog. I did purchase the book, and she signed it for me. I really wish her the best on the MWATGG deal. She's one talented individual. :)

I knew about them around late 2003, drew fanart by April 2004, and started to build the very first( I think, IMHO ^^ )fan website by then... XD

Lauren's got her Webstore up and running now! Yaaaayy!! And I think it looks very nice and professional. Way to go, Lauren! :up: And on top of that, her shirts have just dropped in price by $8 each. So basically they're the Comic-Con price all the time now. :)

I also ordered some things from her about a month ago, and have finally taken pictures of them.

The boatneck Venus tee. I love this shirt, it fits great and the fabric is so soft. And it's very light weight so it was perfect for the hot summer days we've had the last few weeks. Even up here. And I love the glittery foil used on some of the hearts and Venus' shoe ribbons. So I'm a girly girl, I'm not afraid to express that.

The pin set, and my Camelback backpack, on which you can see I also have a Bloo pin, a Goo pin and a Cheese pin. And I have Venus' pin already attached on the top. I really wish there were a Moon pin included, but oh well. But I love these too. I need to think of what else to do with the rest of them. I want to put the Jupiter one (the one on the far right) somewhere special, as she's one of my favorites. But I can't really think of anything yet. I may attach it to my purse somehow.

Postcards and yay, stickers! The three stickers, namely Sun, Saturn and a chibi Mercury were free extras which I was so delighted in. The postcards I don't actually plan to mail since I'm more of a collector. Some will probably be stuck to the fridge via magnet, one or two may be slipped into the frame of my bedroom mirror, maybe one will make it into a photo frame, and what's left may be taped to my closet door as mini posters. I'm still working on it. ;)

I'm greatly pleased with all of these, and that of course includes the service I received while doing business with her. Thank you Lauren!

And as far as I know, there are still no plans, whether serious or speculatory, to make this into a show. Although I'm sure it's still a dream of Lauren's to one day have it become one. If it does one day become a show though, you can bet I'd tune in. :)

She's pitched it, and basically been told by everyone that there is currently "no market" for a "girls' cartoon".

Im not surprized, look at hihi puffy amiyumi, that was a girls cartoon and that failed horribly.

The characters look very cute! The eyes kinda take me back to the Powerpuff Girls.

Lauren's most recent project are adorible tiny felt chibis, which she suggested could hang from review mirrors, or Christmas ornaments. She warned they're probably not sturdy enough to be keychains, though. They will be for sale soon, although they are all hand made and autographed by her so they won't make it into the store. They'd be availible on special order only. But they're so cute! Here's one of the pictures she posted of chibi Milky Way

Another update is she's leaning more toward the blog on the Milky Way sight rather than her former Google Blogspot. And she's directing all blog comments to the new blog, so we might want to start going there for updates now rather than Blogspot. I took it, and was kind of surprised to find out I'm Mercury- the competitive jock. I guess our personalities are similar, but I have more in common with Venus or Moon for sure. Ah well, I'll take Lauren's when she posts her own, maybe I'll be something totally different.

Heh I got Pluto! I have a feeling I got Mars as a #2. Although I don't see a way to see other close matches on this site to check for sure. Rock on dudes! *headbang!*

I just found out that Lauren and the Galaxy Girls will be at Wondercon in San Francisco this weekend. I had no idea! So I will get to see Lauren on Saturday. That's a nice surprise. :terrsmile:

I got a little felt chibi Venus from her this weekend, complete with a button, sticker, and a written and signed postcard from her, which were surprises, and tickled me quite pink. Just like Venus! :lauren: I was ecstatic about that! :D I'll try to post pictures when I have more time (and energy).

Ok, while taking pics of my new magnets, I took pics of my little chibi Venus while I was at it.

She's about 3 inches tall, made entirely of wool felt, and so tiny, only hand stitching worked. So Lauren hand sewed this little darling herself. :lauren: Included was a sticker, a pin (identical to the sticker, I have it pinned to my purse), and the post card, which really made my day because all that was totally unexpected. Little Venus came in a tiny mesh bag with a satin ribbon, and a tiny card of authenticity (a customized business card). I love them all!

Lauren also hand stitched her initials and the year on the back of Venus' head, along with the "invisible loop" so she can hang somewhere without exposing how she's hanging there. She will be proudly displayed somewhere, as soon as I can make my mind up how to do so. I don't want her ruined.

Yes, that made my day! :smed: I've left comments on her blog for about a year now, and recently was flattered to have her add me as a friend on Facebook. But the post card was even more personal than those are. I now have it stuck into the frame of my bedroom mirror, so I see it every morning when I'm getting ready for the day. :)

Yeah, I just saw that today. :'( I know a LOT of people who are sick right now, I'm worried I'm next to come down with something, and trying extra hard to fight the bugs off. I hope they both have a speedy recovery.

Other than being listed in the Con's magazine, it's finally confirmed from Lauren herself that she and her Solar Sorority are going to be at there. :up: And she's got some BIG news coming up. I'm on the edge of my seat. I'm glad to hear something positive is happening, she and her girls had a scary run down a few months ago. So Yay! :)

The first announcement is up! :up: There are kids' sizes of shirts available, and they're in all new designs! I'm personally looking forward to seeing them. They'll be posted later, so stay tuned.
