Favorite Movie Theme Music
OK, after seeing the "Favorite Disney Song(s)" and "Favorite TV Theme" threads, I decided to make this one:
What is your favorite movie theme music/song? Here are my three:
Anyone else willing to share? |
Hmmmm.... Probably too many to think of, much less mention. :nyah: But I shall scour through my entertainment stand at the movies I own anyway-
The Last Unicorn Lord of the Rings <--AWESOME soundtrack! Pirates of the Caribbean A Secret Garden -1993 version A Little Princess -1995 version Titanic Secret of Nimh Ever After Princess Diaries I An American Tail Peter Pan -Live action version Chronicles of Narnia The Princess Bride And pretty much any of the "older" Disney animated movies, let's just leave it at that. :bloosmirk: |
Cantina Band Music - Star Wars
Doctor Who Theme Song (My mum hates that theme song!) James Bond Theme Song The songs from the South Park movie And many others I can't think of at the moment.... |
Off the top of my head the themes that I can think of are...
- The Lord of the Rings theme - Godzilla's theme - The Pirates of the Caribbean theme - The theme to the 1986 Transformers movie ...And many more that I can't remember.8D |
I don't normally memorize or know of many movies theme so I'll do my best to say the ones I can recall to the best of my knowledge:
-Godzilla's theme (definitely :D) -Pirates of the Caribbean -Beetlejuice -Batman -Spider man -Charlie and the chocolate factory -Armageddon -Short Circuit -The Frighteners -Jurassic Park -Edward Scissorhands |
How could I forget Jurassic Park? And Star Wars too.:D
|
The Back to the Future theme would be somewhere at the top of my list. I love that catchy piece of orchestration so much that I've had it as my mobile ringtone for years, and I have no plans of retiring it for now.
Then of course there's Carter Burwell's score for the Hudsucker Proxy, which is wonderful, particularly that lovely little track at the beginning known as "Norville's Suite". He also put together a great little theme for Adaptation, which for some reason always makes me think of marching ants. Then there's that beautifully chilling one he composed for Being John Malkovich - it's always a treat whenever he gets together with Charlie Kaufman or the Coens. What else is there? The Untouchables (GREAT end-credits music), Watership Down, Ratatouille, Brazil, Birdy (Peter Gabriel - nuff said), Donnie Darko, When the Wind Blows...the list goes on and on, though I think I've covered most of my main favourites. |
Man, no love for The Incredibles by Giacchino? Or Superman by Williams. I wish this thread was to best scores overall. I could really give my opinion on many of the pieces I've come to enjoy.
|
iirc Legend had a bada$$ soundtrack
|
I randomly dart about places while humming Mission Impossible. =D

They sound awfully similar actually. |
The jazzy sound was supposed to be a mixture of James Bond with superhero music. And I totally dug it. They almost got John Barry himself to come and do the film. Though I will admit that it won't sit right with everyone. But what can I say, I'm a sucker for Big Band music.
I can't see how you can confuse Superman's theme with Star Wars. I don't even think they sound remotely similar. It was that time when few could accuse Williams of the "self-plagiarism" he's accused of nowadays. I'm with many film fans in saying that Superman is the best superhero theme ever. I would like to add the opening titles and end credits of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Man do I love that movie. |
Here are my favourites:
Beetlejuice Spider-Man 2 (now THAT'S superhero music!) Batman Jurassic Park Superman The Matrix Indiana Jones Harry Potter A Nightmare on Elm Street I also love movie versions of TV Themes. Great examples include: Pokemon (sung by Billy Crawford in the first movie) Inspector Gadget (the only thing I liked about the Matthew Broderick movie) Mission: Impossible (the first movie, brilliantly done by Danny Elfman) I'm really looking forward to how Trevor Rabin is going to do the Get Smart theme! |

I loved how it was brought over into the animated series and I also agree with you Frankie fan that some TV shows turned movies made some AMAZING music. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm has a beautifully amazing version of the Batman theme. I loved the Pokemon theme being redone as well. I love anything Danny Elfman does, he's a magnificent musician. Not surprising that most of the films he's scored are in my favorite list (Beetlejuice, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, Batman). Oh, and you want to talk memorable movie themes, who could forget the Gremlins now THEY had a kick ass movie theme :bendy:. Talk about memories. |
A few more themes that I remembered are Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, and The Lion King.
|
Forgot some. How can I forget-
Grease -Grease is the word, it has groove, it has feeling! :D Sound of Music -The hiiiiiiillls are aliiiiiive, with the sound of muuuuuusic! and My Fair Lady -Lot's of chocolate for may to aite! Lots of canday and lots of treits! :goo: |
Forgot one:
Schindler's List  Very powerful music, even though I haven't seen the movie. |
All the best superhero themes are hummable. Elfman is a great composer, but his movie pieces usually aren't the most hummable, unless they are for comedies. He's my fave, but it's true. Even Mask of the Phantasm was composed entirely by Shirley Walker, and it's infinitely more hummable than any part of The Batman theme from the movie. That's just my opinion though.
Though I may be biased, I know the entire 5 minute Superman theme by heart and hum it on a regular basis. It's my bike riding theme music actually. However if you would like to discuss this more can we do it in private so it doesn't seem like a message board strategy game? I want to throw Alan Silvestri's Beowulf into the ring. THe guy has really outdone himself. It's the first score I've heard by him that doesn't have shades of Back to the Future. And the opening theme is just fantastic. |
Doc Ock's Theme- Spider-Man 2
Symbiote Theme- Spider-Man 3 The Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme)- Star Wars (V-III) But most of all.... Indiana Jones! |
The Island
That had some great music in it, very inspiring kind of stuff. I hated how a lot of people let that movie pass them by, I don't care what anyone says about Michael Bay, I was really impressed with that movie and I LOVED its music. Other good movie themes I liked from films (most people) haven't seen: Idle Hands Seed of Chucky Dream catcher Toys Pokemon 2000 |
I love the music in Pokemon 2000. I thought it was better than the other Pokemon movies (except for the music in the first movie when Ash got turned to stone and all the Pokemon started crying).
|
The Pokemon movies really did have some spectacular music. I love 2000's music but the music from the first one certainly pumps you up. Speaking of which, the Rocky movies had great music too. Who can forget "Eye of the Tiger"?
I really, really wish I could say that "Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within" had great music, but it was really forgettable. That was the biggest disappointment for me - a complete lack of Nobuo Uematsu's musical touch.:( |
The Terminator theme is pretty good too.
|
Rocky
Gonna Fly Now, Bill Conti: Once those trumpets kick in, it's go time. Karate Kid You're The Best, Joe Esposito: One of the greatest and most inspiring 80's movie anthems of all time. Indiana Jones The Indiana Jones Theme, John Williams: It so cool how John was able to take two equally awesome sounding theme songs and put them together to create the super special awesome song we all know and love. |
