Favorite Videogame Music
Since we all ready have a favorite anime music (or, at least intros) thread going, I thought I'd start one for video game music. While I realize many people don't especially pay attention to video game music, I think there's some great tunes out there I just wanted to point out.
Godsibb(Xenosaga) - Easily one of my favorite musical pieces in a videogame, especially with how well it went on with what was occuring during the boss battle it was the theme for. Paula(Earthbound) - Probably one of my favorite pieces from that game, and it had some genuinely great music, especially considering this was back during the SNES era. The tune of the piece just touches me deep down somehow. Imbraglio(Shadow Hearts) - My reasoning for liking this piece is very much like my reasoning for liking Godsibb: it fits very well with the boss fight it plays during. That being said, you can really listen to Godsibb without playing the game and enjoying it; listening to Imbraglio outside the game really takes away from the epic feeling it invokes. One Winged Angel(Final Fantasy VII) - I have to agree with the consensus that this is one of the best final boss themes ever made. Really, it's the only thing about Sephiroth I felt was better than Kefka from FF VI. Speaking of which.... Kefka(Final Fantasy VI) - While lacking the complexity of One Winged Angel (as well as merely being Kefka's theme and not his final boss music), I think it's one of the best themes from the 16-bit era I'd ever heard. That's all for now. I'll probably expand upon this list at some time. |
Kingdom Hearts!!!!

That gives me a migrane! |
The music of Yoshi's Story is forever burned into my brain. Annoying, yes, but the kind of annoying where I walk around the house going la, lalalalala, la, lalalala even though I haven't played that cursed game in years.
Lalalala, lalalala, lalalala... |
Any songs from Parappa the Rapper or Um Jammer Lammy (especially "I Gotta Believe" or "Now Which One Is My Left Hand?")
"Born To Be Bones" or "Bee Jam Blues" from Gitaroo Man-very catchy and entertaining Sanctuary from Kingdom Hearts 2-Very emotional song, and the best out there. One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII-Even though I'm not a big fan of the series, I considered this to be the best song in the entire Final Fantasy series. |
I still cannot get Donkey Kong Jr theme out of my head,
and I have not played it in over 20 years. Monty :-/ |

Hey, if you guys are into videogame music, here's an absolutely killer link for you: Galbadia Hotel. Basically, it's an absolutely huge online database of videogame music for download...I'm not exaggerating when I say they seem to have a complete soundtrack available for practically every game I could care to think of. :wiltshock: They certainly have almost every game that's been mentioned in this thread so far, at the very least. They have tons of anime music too, if that's what you're into...basically, it's manna from heaven as far as I'm concerned. :D
I'm a huge fan of VG music, and there's too many things I like for me to name...the soundtrack currently rocking my proverbial socks is Star Fox Assault. I've not played the game, but I don't need to to appreciate how beautifully they've arranged some of my favourite Star Fox 64 pieces for a full orchestra...their trumpet-led arrangement of the Star Wolf theme is almost tear-inducingly good. :bloocross: |
As much as I don't listen to video game music much (unless it's really good), my favourite is Oakvale from Fable (Xbox). That is what I call music for a fantasy setting!
|
Elite, for the Commodore 64. NOTHING will ever top it. Nothing! 8D
|
FF7, all the music in that. and the pokemon games have great music too (the gameboy games, i mean.) and also sonic and mario.
|
What, no love for the Tetris theme tune? :wiltshock:
Let me just say that I'm very disappointed in you all. ;) |

For me: anything from Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame. (except his death-metal pieces from 10. I'm not into that stuff, it scares the heck out of me.) Capcom also made many of my favorite game tracks. The Megaman X games (X1 most of all) and the Street Fighter games all have wonderful music.:D
Castlevania, Starfox, Zelda, Mario, Chrono Trigger... There's just too many for me list. But I will give honorable mention to Marvel Superheros Alaska stage on the SNES. |
So many video game music tracks to talk about so little time so I'll just list four (For now) Complete with Download links...
Track 1. Katamari on the Swing. Game: We Love Katamari An awesome J-swing tune that sets the mood for more quirky katamari rolling action. http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/241/4 Track 2. The Super Mario Brothers Theme. Game: Super Mario Brothers (And Others) Oh come on, who can forget the age old classic? http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1963/20 Track 3. Ryu's Theme Game: Street Fighter 2 (And Others) What better what way to dragon punch ones way to victory, then to this heroic sounding fighting tune. http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/1327/4 Track 4. Time's Scar Game: Chrono Cross IMHO the sequel to Chrono Trigger wasn't as good as its predecessor, but I'll be danged if this Celtic inspired song doesn't get me pumped up every time I hear it. http://gh.ffshrine.org/song/63/1 |
i liked the theme from earthbound. not a common game but im sure HF knows what im talking about
|
I love the main theme of Psychonauts, from the Monkey Island series: The main there, LeChucks theme, Largo's theme, and the processes shop bg music. From FFIX I love "You're Not Alone" and anything that has Kuja in the scene. From Grim Fandango I really like the bg song called "Swanky Maximino" and of course anything from Parappa the Rapper or Um Jammer Lammy. And so I'll add to Ditchy, I love your avatar! Thats my fave part of Parappa2!
|
I also love the music from the PC game The Movies. I love the different styles of music they did for the different genres for the game!

I'm the one to bring out the original flava flava for my people people...
Subzeroace: Finally, a fellow Hairdresser Octopus aficionado! :bloocross: That reminds me, I forgot to plug his song in this topic...well, I'll soon fix that.

Man, I can name so many things I like; it's not even funny. 8D I guess I'll start with a few. I've enjoyed some of the classics, like the Super Mario Bros. games, The Legend of Zelda, a bit of Megaman (mainly 2 and 3 for the NES), Ys III, Final Fantasy (VI, VII, and IX, but many others have good tunes, also), Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
Then, you have a few I haven't really played much at all, like the Guilty Gear series (like X); great soundtrack (thank you, Rid, for exposing me to the music of GG). Here's one I haven't heard in a while, until now. This is Goenitz's theme from King of Fighters 96. 8-) |
hehehe, video game music huh. :D
Well, lets just say that half the music I listen to is video game music. xDDD -Mario games -Yoshi games (mostly music from Yoshi's Island) -Luigi's Mansion -Pokemon -Sonic the Hedgehog -Kingdom Hearts (though I mainly listen to simple and clean) And sooooo much more. 8-) *is video game, mostly nintendo, obsessed* :D |

Gotta throw my hat in with those who cited anything from the Parappa franchise - fun, hip-hoppy-poppy hits! FWIW, my handle's taken from a bit character from the game. "When Jet Baby flies, she flies up in the air..."
Other games with great music include: Katamari Damacy, Bust a Groove, Space Channel 5 and Jet Set Radio. |

That game has one of the best soundtracks on tbe PS1 IMHO, I always spend many an evening rocking out to Power (Strike's Theme) 2Bad (Heat's Theme) The Natural Playboy (Hiro's Theme) Chemical Love (Gas-o's Theme) and Flyin' to your soul (Robo Z's Theme) |
Any version of Big Blue from the F-Zero series gets me into the racing mood.
here's my favorite version of the theme-->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKUWH1r9Ux0 Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2 was a great song to listen to while zipping through those stages. Chemical Plant-->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LYB7iLZNWE Practically any music from Super Metroid is worth listening to-->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3RiF2r3vTY This last one I'll list for now is the Moon theme from the Ducktales video game for the NES. It just seems to fit the level perfectly-->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_80P...eature=related |
ive never really payed all that attention to the music in video games i play (at least the portable ones, mainly because the music is usually off.) but any song from the first 4 sonic games (although mostly that michael jackson stuff in sonic 3, and marble zone) and that tune from super mario bros. plus, some of the tunes in NiGHTS into dreams are pretty catchy.
and "keep your head up" from umjammer lammy. (never played the game, but if that song isnt addicting i dont know what is.) do songs in guitar hero count? i dont think they do, but if they do then alot of the songs in them too. plus alot more that i cant remember right now. |
The World Ends With You has an AMAZING soundtrack. Definetely one of my favs!

Final fantasy X has good music, especially "Besaid".

BUMP!
I've got a couple to reccomed: -Tekken 2 (the themes of Paul, Nina, Lei, Alex, Character select) -Mario Paint (so weird and almost psychedelic, but delightful and catchy- I've only played it when I was 7, yet some of the tunes have stayed with me ever since!) - Pro Evoution Soccer :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_x6_...eature=related :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRC9LrNAVbo Also, here's a lovely Sonic the Hedgehog melody on piano: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGrq4Wdr9ag I'll think of some more!;D |

Since this thread as been brought back, I might as well include one of my favourite pieces of video game music:
Fable Theme by Danny FREAKING Elfman |
Ooh, a BIG one I forgot-
Game:Streets of Rage 2 Tune: Go Straight type it into Youtube now. It is EPIC |
Here are some great tracks from some games you may or may not know...
Game: God Hand Track: The Gang of Venice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTEMXNxeZAQ A great track from Capcom's severely underrated PS 2 beat em up. It's a nice up tempo guitar/accordion number that is surprisingly fun to bust heads to. Game: Wild Arms Track: Into the Wilderness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRV_A5ZDXyo The opening track to the first game in the long series of Old west inspired RPG's, stands the test of time as of one the most memorable and moving tracks in game history. It's the kind of theme that just makes to want to don a cowboy and ride off into the sunset. Game: Uncharted Waters: New Horizons Track: Caprice for Lute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZfyX...eature=related Ahhh, nothing captures the feeling of slowly drifting away to new lands like this Yoko Kanno created track from the criminally underrated 16'th century sailing and exploration sim series "Uncharted Waters". Game: Ace Combat 4 Track: Megalith - Agnus Dei http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ6ABV_Q9qU An epic theme that serves as theme for the game's final level, a pure epic masterpiece in every way shape and form. Game: The Neverhood. Track: Klayman's Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppkBUXKjLw0 A fun little dixieland inspired number that serves as the main theme for this awesome claymation based graphic adventure. (Whose main character is now serving as my avatar pic, because I can't seem to get this game out of my mind despite not having played in years.) |
