Star Trek

I figured with the SW people tootin' their horns, I am putting out an APB on Star Trek fans (Original Series, Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, etc.). I am The Original Series (1966 - 1969) geek. If you are a Star Trek fan, stand up and be counted!

Partymember 12-07-2006 03:38 PM

The original, man, its sooooooo groovy. Remember the episode with the giant space ameoba? Trippy.

Voxxyn 12-07-2006 04:26 PM

I love Deep Space Nine. I caught a good amount of it in the summer via Spike TV reruns, and it's easily the most engrossing Trek to me. Odo is my favorite character.

Nathander 12-07-2006 05:45 PM

I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan, but I catch it when I can (or just plain feel like it). I have a special love for Next Generation, as it was one of the few shows my dad and I got to watch together when I was little, but I also have a nostolagic feeling on the old series, especially the movies made around them (specifically the sixth, which was the first movie I ever saw in a theater). It's really been awhile since I've seen an episode of Star Trek, and now I really want to see it again. I've been debating getting one of the season sets, and that may be just what I do.

I also say this, and take it as you will: I find Star Trek to be much closer to true science fiction then Star Wars.

Referring to the second season, episode "Immunity Syndrome." That was a good episode.

I like Star Trek quite a bit, only the original series, though. My dad is a big fan of the original series, we used to check out Star Trek videos from the Library. Nowadays he'll watch the reissued reruns on the local ABC affiliate.

Next Generation and Enterprise were entertaining at times, but I will never go out of my way to watch them. Riker killed The Next Generation for me, I would have liked it a lot without him.

Favorite original series episode: Arena

Carlaz 12-08-2006 05:20 AM

Definitely a fan! My fave series were the original series & TNG. :)

Partymember 12-08-2006 06:19 AM

Ahhh...the Gorn creature; his lines were so cheesy, but I loved it!

Did you see how they redesigned the Gorn and the Tholians on Star Trek: Enterprise? Pretty wild.

No I have not (yet anyway). I'll check it out. Have you heard of the dta base Memory Alpha? It is a website that has everything on Star Trek.

Cassini90125 12-08-2006 10:30 AM

I've seen it, although I haven't been there in awhile. I originally found it while trying to find some decent shots of the Enterprise from the final Next Generation episode.

Here is another fun link. Ever want to know about all the women of Star Trek TOS? Here it is:

Interesting. :) For the record, I removed the smilie from the link, as it wasn't working.

Thanks Mr. M! :D

Mr. Marshmallow 12-08-2006 01:06 PM

Sure thing. I check movie websites all the time and I constantly hear about THOUSANDS of different movies either being made, or not being made. This one is a rumor that floated around for a while before finally being confirmed it seems.

J.J. Abrams is (i think) the director of "Mission Impossible 3" and some people are hoping this film can possibly relaunch Star Trek into a new and profitable franchise again like what was done with "Batman Beings" and "Casino Royale" for Batman and James Bond's series.

Howard 12-08-2006 01:33 PM

Thanks MM! I find that very interesting.

*slurrrrrrp* Wait for me, I will be quick and merciful *slurrrrrrrp*

My dad was thrilled when he found the videotape with Arena on it at the Library, they did not have it for many, many years.

Gotta love the Horta as well. They aren't organic, you know....

Partymember 12-08-2006 08:21 PM

yes, it is fairly certain they are making a Star Trek movie, i only know this becase they pushed the John Carter of Mars movie back in order to make the Star Trek one (growls angrily)

The Horta is silicon based life. I liked the way McCoy healed it with just a trowelful of thermal concrete.

I know, that's why I said they aren't organic.
They aren't carbon-based.

I like bringing up Horta around folks who only eat "organic" produce. They never get it.

The Horta were the subject of the greatest After Dark screensaver ever made. I could watch that thing for hours.

I like the fact that the Horta is a sophisticated and logical creature.

Not sure how you guys might react to this news, since even I admit it sounds a bit strange. But I found out another bit of news bout the Star Trek movie and well.....

I'll let you guys decide.

Matt Damon? Hmmmm...very interesting MM - and i will coin the phrase "fascinating!"

Cassini90125 12-12-2006 03:02 PM

I think I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie (if it gets made). Aside from the two "Bourne" movies, which I liked, I'm not familiar with his work.

Mr. Marshmallow 12-12-2006 03:09 PM

You really should see some of his other stuff, he's made some fine movies over the years. I recommend:

Dogma, Good Will Hunting, Brothers Grimm, and Titan A. E. (even though it's a voice over role, I still like him).

I'm a Kevin Smith fan, and Dogma is one of my all time favs. I liked Matt in his small appearance in Saving Private Ryan. I

I think we should start a different Kevin Smith movie fan thread though...

Star Trek

Anyone here a big fan of this well-known sci-fi series?

For me, I have seen a few episodes from the different series (including Star Trek: Next Generations, Enterprise, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and even the original). However, I wasn't able to hook up to the series at all.

Overall, I find the series to be okay. Just not my favorite show to watch.

One wonders why you started a thread about it if it's not a fave. In any event, I've merged it with the old Star Trek thread.

As I've said before, I love the original series and all it's spin-offs, including the often overlooked and underrated animated version. I wish there were new episodes in the works, but until the series is resurrected again, the reruns will have to do. Fortunately they seem to be on quite a bit in my area, although rarely the episodes I enjoy most.

billytheskink 05-05-2007 07:28 AM

Fascinating.

WiltsAKGirl17 10-07-2007 10:43 AM

YAY, Star Trek!

I am a fan. I used to be Super Trekkie my freshman year of HS, but I've put that behind me (and laugh at my own obsession over all things Trek 8D) and enjoy the occassional ep. I like the first 4 (the original, next generation, deep space 9 and voyager) series the best. Enterprise wasn't that great.

I'm a little disappointed with the topic of this newest movie. I was hoping it'd be set after Nemesis, and centered around the Enterprise-E crew. Anyone else think so?

I can't say I've heard much about the movie. I'd love to see a big-screen production of Deep Space Nine, or something set aboard the USS Excelsior with George Takei as the star, but truthfully at this point I'll take anything I can get.

Partymember 10-07-2007 02:52 PM

all i know is Spock can speak with Whales...and thats cool

Cassini90125 10-26-2007 09:18 PM

I have a translation of the conversation between the whales and the Probe at the end of the movie. You can read it in the movie's novel. Speaking of Trek movies, I found this bit of news about the next one:

http://omg.yahoo.com/shatner-not-abo...trek/news/3437

Sort of interesting, although there are no significant details about the plot yet.

Howard 11-04-2007 07:09 PM

I am wtching my third season on DVD right Now "Spectre of the Gun."

Sparky 11-07-2007 02:31 PM

I hope you guys don't mind me stepping in with a Star Trek-related question...

Does anyone here have a copy of the Door Repair Guy ST fic series? It doesn't seem to be online anywhere anymore and I never did get to finish it. :P
