On the bright side, the barbarians living above me have been quiet. Now, having typed that, I expect I'll be posting in "What Ticks You Off?" early tommorrow. 8D

Back on the topic of happy things, I looked out the window a few minutes ago and discovered that the morning snowstorm has covered everything with a layer of ice. Not good for driving, true, but to me it has a crystalline beauty that snow can't match, and at night when it catches the light from the streetlights at the right angle, the resulting scene can be quite breathtaking. My camera battery is charging as I type this; I'll be heading out for photos a little later. :)

Getting my power back made my day. Before that I day was pretty nice, because one of my uncles brought like 5 gallons of milk from the bakery so It wouldn't rot and we could use it. Free stuff is always great.

The long municipal transit nightmare has come to an end, the strike is over and the buses in Ottawa will be rolling again (As soon as they are fixed and brought up to speed, due to the fact they have been inactive for over the past 50 days.)

It was hilarious because all of this time the City and Transit Union were both holding firm on their respective positions, and it wasn't until the federal Government threatened to get involved that both sides decided to come an agreement and put an end to this strike. (Kind of like when a parent threatens to get involved in dispute between two siblings.) And yes I said "Federal Government" because of the fact that some bus routes cross over into Quebec, therefore any legislation has to be done on the federal level.

Anyways it's good to see this madness come to a conclusion and hopefully things will return to normal in my fair city sooner rather then later.

Ridureyu 01-31-2009 08:06 PM

You'd think this would be in the other topic, but it made me laugh so much that it goes here.

So, I picked my parents up from the airport the other day, and this morning my dad decided to leave me a surprise:) He cooked bacon!

However, he also started to fill the sink, forgot about it, and drove away while the faucet was still running. Thus, I got TWO surprises this morning!

Lynnie 01-31-2009 08:15 PM

Oh no! I hope you didn't get a flood! :wiltshock: Hopefully your water bill is usually among the lowest, too (it's my cheapest bill). That is pretty funny though.

I had chocolate mud slide ice cream scooped over brownies, with hot fudge drizzled over it all a few minutes ago. That totally made my day. :bloosmirk:

8D Oops. 8D

I've done that myself on more than one occasion. I tell myself that it's reality's way of reminding me to scrub the kitchen floor once in awhile. :bloocross:

Ridureyu 01-31-2009 08:24 PM

"I left you a surprise this morning!"

"Yes, yes you did."

Cassini90125 02-02-2009 10:23 AM

The ceremonial Signing of the Lease took place a little over an hour ago. At this point I'm moving whether I want to or not. The moving process itself will no doubt be an epic-level fiasco but it'll be worth it.

Time to start packing. :)

Lynnie 02-02-2009 02:54 PM

That's great! Good luck with the moving, Cass. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Cassini90125 02-02-2009 03:09 PM

Thanks, and don't worry, I'll manage. By the way, I asked and found out that they do allow cats. ;)

Lynnie 02-02-2009 03:20 PM

That's wonderful, yay! I know you've been there, done that, but if you should ever decide to get a kitty and have any questions, feel free to ask away. I've worked with pet products for 10 years and have had kitties ever since I was six years old. And they've all lived long healthy lives. :)

In a way this makes my day, although in a slight way it's also a little disappointing. I like to watch PBS kids in the afternoon before the local news comes on. And usually right now is "Reading Rainbow". I like "Reading Rainbow", especially if it's an episode that's 20 years old and I remember seeing it when I was little. But our local PBS schedule just changed, and now it's "Martha Speaks" that's on in this time slot. One of my favorite PBS cartoons, it use to be on only in the early morning and early afternoon, so I usually only got to watch it when I had the day off. But now it looks like I'll get to catch it whenever I'm home by 4, which is usually half the time. :) That makes me happy. Now I'm just wondering when I'll ever see "Reading Rainbow" again.

I made this cake just short of a week ago, but only just got round to uploading the images. I know that, aesthetically speaking, the icing could have used a bit more work, but then I'm still fairly new at this whole cake-baking game, and icing is one skill which I've still yet to properly master. The cake itself tasted delicious (naturally, since I made it almost a week ago, it's no longer in existence), and it's a recipe which I've been wanting to try out for ages.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2995/dscf1840vv1.jpg

Anyone know what kind of cake this is? It may surprise you.

Spoiler Below
It's a tomato soup cake...though you can't actually taste the tomato. The cake itself tastes rather spicy.

Cassini90125 02-09-2009 12:54 PM

Gimme Looks pretty dang good! I seldom do any baking anymore, although I do throw a loaf of bread in the oven occasionally. ;)

Thanks. I got round to making another one last night - a "Rainbow Surprise" cake (so-called for its inclusion of little multi-coloured crystals of sugar) - only on this occasion I was sort of cheating and using a ready-assembled cake mix. It didn't come out looking quite as I'd wanted it to (the frosting was a heck of a lot messier - hence no snapshots this time), but the taste was certainly none the worse for it. :)

Cassini90125 02-13-2009 07:15 PM

CVS dropped the price of a half-gallon of milk by 60 cents. ;D

some guy you dont know 02-13-2009 07:26 PM

I got megaman X collection for the ps2 today. Its 7 games in 1, for only $20, which I think is cheap, since the place I got it from has one of the games on it alone for sale at like, $50. :P

I just love compilations. any time where I can get 2 or 5 or in this case, 7 for the price of one, I'll take it. Also helps one of the games was otherwise not released in america, and they are all pretty awesome games on their own.

Ridureyu 02-14-2009 02:37 PM

I hit 500 Feedback in E-bay, and got a new star!

pitbulllady 02-14-2009 06:08 PM

I finally got out of the house and work for a day, and went to a reptile/exotic animal show, and scored some really good deals on some hard-to-find arachnids, including an adult female Brachypelma boehmei, or "Mexican Fireleg" tarantula, for 70 bucks, which is REALLY cheap for one of this species, especially a female! There were a lot of good deals on spiders and scorpions at this show, which was being held for the first time near Charlotte, NC.

Funny thing happend the other day...

And that was me Finding a cheap copy of Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS and having the attractive lady clerk geeking out about my purchase. Sadly this was near the end of my lunch hour and I couldn't stay any longer and continue our spirited discussion about all things Chrono, Marle, Magus and Lavos. ;D

Cassini90125 03-01-2009 08:29 AM

I occasionally win a few bucks playing Powerball, usually about $3.00 or $4.00. Today I won $10.00. This works out perfectly, as I expected to be buying about $10.00 worth of supplies later today. Better still, it delays my next trip to the bank until tommorrow. I'd say today is off to a fine start. :smed:

Well I got my new embroidery machine Saturday evening (thanks GM!! :D ). After doing one of the small built-in designs to learn how to do it and to make sure the tension was okay, I did a large design on an old shirt that doesn't fit any more:

http://theneitherworld.com/sparkys-s...cameoshirt.jpg

(It looks crooked but its not.) I could have brought it up higher but its okay where it is. Too bad the shirt doesn't fit, lol. Design from urbanthreads.com. Here's a closeup.

Lynnie 03-02-2009 07:15 PM

Ooooh, that turned out really cool looking, and very professional. Congrats on finally getting it! :bloosmirk:

As for what made my day, my side job is done for the week, and I got a box from my best friend today. Too bad I didn't get home until after the office was closed so I couldn't pick it up, but I'm excited as to what it may be. :D

xxxClaire 03-03-2009 06:18 PM

I finally found the video game my boyfriend wanted for his birthday, after going to 3 stores. I'm happy now.

The machine created the entire design?

I bought the pattern file from a website and put it on a USB stick, and put that into the machine (it has a built-in computer). I threaded one color, let it go until it was done with that color, changed to another color, etc. It took nearly two hours to stitch out the whole thing.

I am going to be getting the software to create my own designs pretty soon, and then I can do anything I want, provided I can figure out the software, lol. The max size design my machine can do is about 5 1/2 by 8 inches, but with fancy hoop-work you can make bigger things. Its a high-end professional machine with a lot of capabilities.

Cassini90125 03-03-2009 09:21 PM

Sounds promising; looking forward to seeing what you dream up.

Managed to pick it up today. It's Pat Benatar's Greatest Hits CD! Included on it is "Love is a Battlefield" and "We Belong"- two of my most favorite 80s songs of all time. I'm listening to "We Belong" over and over and over again, and in pure glee! Wheeeeee!! :yeah:

Sparky 03-04-2009 01:20 PM

Eeeeeeee Pat Benatar! I've always wanted that tape, I should get the CD.

It was a clear day yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the moon was visible even though it was 2pm local time. :groovyed:

Also from last night, I got this email from my professor that teaches my reinforced concrete class.

Quote:

For CET 1112-Reinforced Concrete Design class on Friday, March 6, meet in room 228 for a video.
The video is about 54 minutes long. Please try to be on time and stay until the end.
With your Friday schedule, most of you do not have a class at 10 am.
I hope I do not run into any of you in court while I am serving on Jury Duty.

Have a great spring break.

Prof.
That made me smile.

Imaginary Light 03-05-2009 02:01 PM

My week long spring break starts after I get out of class tomorrow. Yay! I really need this.:P I feel like life has been so hectic lately. Even though I have some school things to do and worry about over break, I'm just happy to not have to sit through lecture after lecture for a week.

And then after break, rehearsals start for a play I'm gonna be performing in. So...life's gonna be even more hectic after break, buuuut I'm gonna be doin' what I love: performing.:)

taranchula 03-09-2009 07:29 PM

Going back to my old college for a day and catching up with my old professors again, you see this years scriptwriting class was having a live public reading of some of the plays they are working on this year and seeing as how I was in the neighborhood I decided to drop in and give it a look.

It was actually a very good show as this year they were able to get local professional actors to come in and read their material, last year we had to do it all ourselves. Well not to say we were horrible actors or anything, but it's hard to compete with professionals.

Anyways, it was a rather fun day and it was quite relaxing to be on the other side of the stage where one's butt is not on the line. 8D

Lynnie 03-10-2009 09:18 PM

My sister just made me laugh so hard. 8D That totally made my day because I'm feeling pretty crummy right now. I love her.

Sparky 03-11-2009 08:26 PM

A hot homemade sesame seed bagel fresh from the oven. I don't think I'll ever buy bagels again.

Sama-chan 03-12-2009 09:53 PM

Going to a Yu-gi-oh tournament, and although I didn't win, I got a ALOT of awesome cards.
Yeah, I had a good day ^_^

Mac-a-lacka 03-18-2009 08:44 PM

A guy at the store today gave me a dinosaur made of balloons. :D

This just in, from the Sims 3 site, on the matter of SecuROM:

We’ll have more information for you as we get closer to launch about everything we’ll have to offer on TheSims3.com and The Sims 3 Store, but we have heard your requests over the past months and here is our plan for The Sims 3.

The game will have disc-based copy protection – there is a Serial Code just like The Sims 2. To play the game there will not be any online authentication needed.

We feel like this is a good, time-proven solution that makes it easy for you to play the game without DRM methods that feel overly invasive or leave you concerned about authorization server access in the distant future.

We’re really excited to bring you the game for the PC and Mac starting June 2, 2009. The extra time we’ve taken to polish the game has resulted in an even better game experience for you to enjoy and we can’t wait for you to see for yourself!

Thanks for your passion and your loyalty.

That's awesome! It's about time they do something about that, with how long the heat over SecureRom has been thrown about. I guess that petition we signed a while back paid off after all. Or at least helped. I'm very happy to hear it!

One Radical Dude 03-31-2009 09:06 PM

This happened on Monday; my time off request during Comic-Con was approved. I am glad to have that taken care of. 8-)

Cassini90125 03-31-2009 10:57 PM

Very glad to hear that, dude. See you in July!

What made my day was discovering, barely a half an hour ago, that there's a wireless network available in my new area, which I'm using right now. For some reason my DSL connection and my phone refuse to work; AT&T is sending a tech out in about 12 hours or so to take a look at the problem. No internet makes me unhappy. In desperation I opted to take a shot at an unsecured wireless network and, well, here I am. ;D

Now, who tried to get away with what while I was gone? :bloocross:
