A Christmas Story - I will never grow out of that movie!

Donnie Darko was on Sci-fi last night. I enjoyed it as much second time round especially the whole time-travel thing. Some good acting too and fantastic music like Echo and the Bunnymen and Joy Division. Also funnier than I remembered. Yeh nice flick.

I wasn't really impressed, either, even though two former writers for Foster's had written this film. To me, a lot of it was the acting that made this a tough movie for me to watch, and the writing wasn't the best. Also, I would've loved to see more animation in the movie. If this is what we're going to get from CN in the future, I'm not looking forward to the future. Unfortunately, I read somewhere that this movie even did better than GWH. That doesn't mean that kids really loved it (though a lot did watch), however, it's a sign that we'll likely get more of these types of movies or shows in the future.

I sadly hope not. To me, this was worse then the crap they pump out on Sci-fi channels. The acting was pathetically lame, it was TOO childish even for kids sake, and it made utterly no sense. Not only that, but they WASTED a great opportunity to use this toon idea properly.

When I first heard about this, I thought they were gonna incorporate actual CN toons like Foster's, Puffy Ami Yumi, Titans, and etc into it. To me, that would have been a much better idea then producing shallow made up toon characters with again, acting that is downright atrocious.

Oh yeah, and it had aliens plus a really annoying "dance kid" who made me want to get my teeth drilled rather then watch him anymore :terrence:. Such a waste of money, CN could have made 50 Foster's movies with the money they wasted on that.

I'm glad I missed it. I had a feeling it wasn't worth watching, but was it really as bad as I'm hearing?

No....it's much much WORSE then what your hearing.

Partymember 12-13-2006 04:41 PM

Seven Samurai is a BEAUTIFUL flick. I think IFC plays it a lot, it might be on tonight, actually.

Cassini90125 12-13-2006 04:49 PM

Alas, I do not get that channel, nor do I plan to until I can find a digital cable box/DVR device that I can program to start and stop recording when I want it to, not when Tivo or Comcast tells it to. Until then I'm sticking with analog.

Partymember 12-13-2006 04:59 PM

don't sweat it: i just checked and it isn't on. Maybe it was last night i saw it on. It is a LONG movie from what i remember, there is an American remake set in the West called "Magnificent Seven" good flick, more often played than "Seven Samurai"

You can program a Tivo for manual recording; it's what I did to catch the Thanksgiving marathon for Sparky. Of course, they don't make it easy because they want you to subscribe to their program listing service, but it can be done.

Alternatively, you can get a DVD recorder--most of them have hard drives that you can record programs with, and my Panasonic is very easy to program by time and channel.

Right now I'm using a Pioneer DVD recorder. The internal hard drive records whatever channel I want, whenever I want it to, and will burn what it records to a blank DVD (after I edit out the commercials). I need something like that for digital channels, preferrably one that can record and burn HDTV channels, too. I want nothing to do with TiVo, cable boxes or subscription services; they never take into account programming that starts early or ends late and are, to me, completely worthless.

Oh, last movie I saw? A live-action remake of the claymation classic "The Year Without A Santa Claus". The original was a lot better and didn't have dancing girls.

Did they at least do the "Snowmiser/Heatmiser" song? I look forward to hearing that every year. And the miniature dancing clones...oh yeah.

They did the song, but that was the part with the dancing girls. :(

Same thing with my family, we also always watch "The Mupper Christmas Carol" on Christmas eve. Right before we go to the night church service.

SkittleMonkey 12-17-2006 03:43 PM

Let me add one more Christmas movie to this. I just watched Elf with my mom and dad, like, an hour ago. It's also our tradition to watch A Christmas Story all the time, right up until Christmas when we open presents. My oldest brother loooves that movie...

Mr. Marshmallow 12-17-2006 10:17 PM

Since that seems to be the theme here, I too got another to add for Christmas movies. I just got finished watching it like five minutes ago:

Gremlins

Not exactly cheery holiday material but still Christmas.

Cassini90125 12-17-2006 10:28 PM

"Deep Impact", on DVD.

Great movie, though nowhere near as great as the book.

*Finally* found it on DVD at my comics store! I am teh happy, been looking for it for ages! :D

The last half hour of Barnyard. >.< Sucked. Sorry if anyone thinks otherwise.

Before that I saw Taledega Nights. Not much to comment on.

Before that I saw Eragon in theaters. I. AM. THOROUGHLY. UPSET. I didn't know it was LEGAL to make a movie so far from the book it was based on...Dx Pretty much the only thing they did right was the casting of Murtagh. ARYA DIDN'T EVEN HAVE POINTED EARS!! *seethes* SO not worth seeing the first night it came out.

Mr. Marshmallow 12-19-2006 09:08 PM

Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Not sure bout you Insane but I LOVED this movie! I thought it was funny as hell, everything in it was great and it was thankfully as good as it's hype.

Which is rare to find in a film these days.
