I just came back from the movies, and I have to say, this was really good. I really enjoyed this film. The voice actors are what made this film. Nathan Lane was really good as Ham Egg, Freddie Highmore did a great performance as Astro, and I couldn't believe myself when in the credits (and this is my Whose Line self saying this! 8D) Ryan Stiles was listed as one of the robots!

There was a lot more comedy moments than I thought they would be, and the relationship between Astro and Cora was really good. It was a great movie. I really enjoyed it.

Wow, I had no idea Ryan Stiles was one of the robots. I too saw this movie the other day and thought it was wonderful. It was heart warming, good characters, really loved the action scenes and Astro kicking robot ass in that tournament scene. I loved the animation style and for once I LOVE how Astro looks, the original anime never really struck a chord with me.

Good cast of voice actors I was very pleased with this movie, granted it gets a bit too kiddish at times but I feel the good most certainly outweighs the bad in this film's case.

Oh yeah.

The last movies I saw (besides Astro boy), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and One Missed Call (the original Japanese one).

Yeah, it fooled me too! If I can remember, he voiced Mr. Mustachio (if that's how it's spelt) and Burning Robot (I think he was the one walking around going 'Am I on fire?' or something like that! 8D)

Nathander 10-26-2009 06:40 PM

Have to admit....I'm a huge fan of Astro Boy, so I'm somewhat glad to hear the positive reviews. I simply hope it doesn't stray too far away from the original, especially considering that I felt the original manga (not the anime) of Astro Boy, as well as any of Tezuka's work, masterpieces.

As for movies I've seen lately, the last one in theaters was Zombieland, which was fantastic. I also saw Ghost Town on SyFy on Saturday, which was hysterically bad.

As far as I know, the only thing that's taken out is all the anime/Japanese elements, except for the Osamu Tezuka cameo.

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure

I don't care what anyone says, I just can't help but love Tinker Bell. She's such an awesome pixie. This movie takes it further. Most of the cast (including Mae Whitman, Angelica Huston, Raven-Symone, Lucy Liu and Jesse McCartney) return for a second adventure set in autumn. Plus, Rob Paulsen and Jeff Bennett returning as Bobble and Clank is just brilliant. These two in this movie is proof that they truly are one of the funniest voice actors working today!
'Still okay!' 8D

I've always had an admiration and love for Tinker Bell, and I really don't care what people say, I'll always treasure these movies as much as I treasure Tinker Bell. :-*

Lynnie 11-13-2009 07:50 PM

I'm certainly not going to be bashing you. I've always loved Disney's Peter Pan and thus am a big fan of Tink, too. I have yet to see the Tinkerbell movies, only because an opportunity hasn't made itself known, and I guess I haven't searched one out, either. But I've heard great things about the movies, and more from adults than from kids. According to a test I took a few months ago, my personality is most like the raven haired pixie (don't remember her name), and since then I've been even more curious. :bloosmirk:

That does sound pretty good actually. I've got a real backlog of films I've seen since I last posted but...well....you'll all live without knowing what I thought was so terribly wrong with the Star Trek film or what Munch reminded me of.

I think it is important to say that I really loved Moon directed by Duncan Jones. Good story, good actors and a

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Man, this was a hilarious film! Everything I thought would be funny about this film WAS funny, and better! Bill Hader and Anna Faris were really great, and there were so many funny moments in this film. I was really laughing throughout. There are jokes that work, crazy animation that you just can't help but smile at, and best of all, it never was boring! When there isn't any comedy, there's some great action scenes, and some family moment parts but they're brief! The best part was
Spoiler Below
the interaction between Flint and Sam. The end when they kiss was just so heartwarming and hilarious. :-*

This is a really funny film, and the 3D works great. I really enjoyed it!

2012. A bloated CGI spectacle riddled with stereotypes (can movies think of nothing but estranged dad-husband/wife's new boyfriend/can't reconcile with the kids subplots?) and corny dialogue. $10.50 and two-plus hours I'll never get back.

This is so true, it comes up time and time again. Why would this be. Could it be because people who make movies think that people who watch movies are a bunch of losers and can therefore only relate to faliure heroes (who come through in the end).

If they want to be all fathers for justice, they should make a film about 'Fathers for Justice' who may not be actual heroes but dress up as superheroes and trespass on state property, ironically doing them no favours in the custody department.

Another Castle 12-22-2009 07:02 AM

The last movie I have watched was The Iron Giant, which stars Vin Diesel. It was directed by Brad Bird (who also did The Incredibles and Ratatouille) and was released 10 years ago. Due to poor marketing, it didn't do so well at the box office.
I was suprised to see Lauren Fraust's name on the credits!

frankie_fan 12-30-2009 01:37 AM

Sherlock Holmes

This was great. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law really are at their game here. It was really funny at parts, thanks to both Robert and Jude's acting work. Impressive fight scenes and witty dialogue make this film a winner. The only thing I didn't like was
Spoiler Below
at the end when Rachel McAdams was still classified as a criminal and had to be locked up. :(
But that's just me being new to the world of Sherlock Holmes. I'm sure if anyone here are Sherlock Holmes fans you'll know that would happen.

Anyway, a great performance by both Robert and Jude, and very funny moments make this film great. 4/5

Lynnie 12-30-2009 07:40 PM

That's great to hear, thank you for sharing FF. :) That's one of the movies I'm hoping on seeing at some point, being a Victorian drama, and all. With plenty of comedy in there too. It's just my type of movie. Plus I always did like the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. The Masterpiece Theatre series is certainly intriguing.

Mr. Marshmallow 12-30-2009 09:51 PM

I also saw Holmes and absolutely adored it, I thought Downey totally dominated that film and proved he was worth the take up Holmes name and pipe. Also FF, I was under the understanding that the spoiler event you referred to came out a bit differently, as in:

Spoiler Below
I thought Irene was given the key to the cuffs in exchange for Holmes taking the stolen necklace back from her. Though I am pretty sure that is the case.

But the last movie I actually saw was Antichrist a relatively unknown film with Willem Dafoe and let me tell you......its better off STAYING out of right if you ask me *shudders*.

Yeah, I saw that. But, I still felt that

Irene still had to be locked up for her crimes, unless Sherlock intended to set her free.
So, unless they do a sequel (which they will be doing), I'll just assume that

Irene is stuck between being good and being bad.

I saw Avatar in 3D yesterday. It was on the biggest screen in Melbourne! Not so big but still bigger than any. I had the BEST seat. It was at the centre of the theater! If you want to know more about Avatar check the spoiler below!

Spoiler Below
Avatar is about a crippled man named Jake Sully whose brother (named Tom) dies. Jake Sully is flown to the moon 'Pandora'. Humans are unable to breathe the Pandora air so with the help of Tom's Avatar, Jake Sully goes on a big adventure on Pandora! I'm not going to see more or else it will ruin it for you! LOL

You HAVE to see the movie! It rocks!

Ccook50 01-03-2010 08:53 AM

I spent New Year's Eve at my sister's and we watched the 1999 DVD release of Yellow Submarine. We never get tired of watching it. (The 1999 DVD release has the segment of the Beatles conversing with Sgt. Pepper's Band and the "Hey Bulldog" sequence, neither of which was in the original release.)

frankie_fan 01-14-2010 08:25 PM

Ponyo

Another great film by Hayao Miyazaki. I've been wanting to see this for quite a while, and while I did enjoy the film, I felt that the story was too simple. I know that it's supposed to be a kids film, but I felt it was a bit too kiddish. Having said that, I still enjoyed the music. The opening score alone was beautiful! I also liked the English voice cast (yes, I'm an anime fan who prefers the dub than the sub, so sue me!). Liam Neeson was my favourite out of the cast. I also felt that Matt Damon didn't get to do much. The only other minor complaint would be having the siblings of Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers voicing the leads, but I'm sure everyone would agree with that! 8D

Overall, it's a great film, that suffers from a VERY simple story, and Cyrus and Jonas siblings. Not as good as Spirited Away, but still great.

I always love stories about young love. :-* And then when they're old, he reads her the notebook she wrote about their whole love affair to keep what feelings she has for him alive, even in here severe dementia. And although it had a sad ending, it was a complete and satisfying ending. I was left feeling happy.

And I watched it again tonight! :) I think this is becoming one of my favorite movies, even though it's been over a year now since I've seen it. Such a sweet story.

The one I saw tonight was on TV and edited for time, so I don't remember if they clarified on what exactly happened in the end. I'll put it in spoilers in case anyone has yet to see it and wants to-

On average, how often does everybody wait to see a movie for a second time? I've seen many movies numerous times, but I feel it ruins them a bit When you know every line.

I watched Slumdog Millionaire for the second time the other week. I saw it in the cinemas, but all the Hindi bits had Dutch subtitles, so I felt I missed something!:P

Tales of the Black Freighter. I have no interest in the Watchmen movie itself (I don't care for the directer) but I was interested in seeing this animated take on the dark and surreal story within the story of Watchmen. It was much more disturbing and depressing than I remember.:(

The Crazies

A few good creepy moments, the ending sequences were much more tense than the rest of the movie but overall yet another disappointment. 2010 has bombarded me with disappointed movies with the exception of The Wolfman. This one however didn't have any real gore to it or acting chops, it rushed so fast it kind of went through the film and story like tissue paper.

I had high horror hopes for this but again 2010 has dashed away my hopes and interests and here's hoping Tim (my main man!) Burton doesn't join this unfortunate trend with his new Alice movie opening up next week. Cause that is a BIG one on my must-see-list this year.

Imaginary Light 03-05-2010 05:46 PM

I've just come back from seeing Alice in Wonderland. I'll say I definitely was not disappointed. I really, really enjoyed it, and the whole 3D IMAX thing made it even better.:)

Lynnie 03-18-2010 11:56 PM

That's the movie I just saw today, too! And I really liked it as well. The one part I found unnecessary and cheesy was when
Spoiler Below
the Hatter did that dance thing that he supposedly hadn't done in years. The writers could have thought of something else he could have done or something when working with the White Queen again. You could just tell it was put in there just so the animators could play with the digital effects.

Other than that though, I loved every second of it.

The very last movie I watched though was Disney's Fantasia. Hadn't seen it in years. I for one LOVE classical music, and the little cartoons that play while it plays are so fun. And it has many things I really love like ballet, ice skating, fairies, pegasus, unicorns, cherubs, and even ghosts. No mermaids though, that's kind of messed up. :P

Medikor 03-22-2010 05:05 PM

Tron. The upcoming sequel made me finally get up and watch this great piece of retro 80's science fiction. They just don't make movies with this kind of feel anymore.
I also plan to watch Clash of the Titans (the original one) at some point. I've seen it before, but I picked it up on dvd the other day. For seven buck I just couldn't say no to this stop-motion gem!

How to Train Your Dragon

This was an awesome movie. It's really a visual feast, especially in 3D. The humour in this film is really funny. The main teen characters (Hiccup, Astrid, Ruffnut & Tuffnut, Snotlout and Fishlegs) in particular are really funny when they play off each other. Although I couldn't help myself when
Spoiler Below
at the end when Astrid did the 'that's for kidnapping, that's for everything else' the second time. I thought that was adorable.

It's a great animated film with humour and heart. I'd highly recommend it.

BTW, any David Tennant fans who are going to see How to Train Your Dragon, can you help me with who Spitelout is (since that's who David voices in this film)? Because I had trouble finding him.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! See this movie NOW!!!! Seriously. The toys are back and better than ever!! Everything about this film is awesome! Spanish Buzz was freaking hilarious 8D, and the ending was truly sad. I didn't break down or anything, but my eyes did get watery. There are brilliant callbacks to the previous films and some really clever parts. It's such a brilliant film.

Just came back from seeing Toy Story 3 my and I agree with that above statement, Pixar has once again proven that they are the best they are at what they do.

To John and all of the men and women who worked on this picture I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me (and others) another uplifting movie going experience.

zachary2142 07-04-2010 01:52 PM

I've seen Toy Story 3 today, and it was nice to finally see the toys back in action! I watched the first Toy Story when I was 6, and Toy Story 2 when I was 10, so seeing the third part as a 20-year old man was... different, but still very enjoyable. I did get some strange looks showing up without a kid of my own, but to hell with it.

The ending was great. It was very similiar to how I gave my toys away, so that really struck a chord with me. All in all, Pixar really knows the business of making a good animated movie.

Also, the short Day & Night at the beginning - awesome.

Lynnie 07-10-2010 06:52 PM

^ I second everything you just said. ;) Well, except the giving the toys away part. I'm too attached to mine to ever part from them.

I brought my sis to see it just over a week ago and we both loved it! Pixar has yet to disappoint us.

I am resurrecting this thread du to the fact I saw the most wonderful film on DVD. It was "The Red Baron " (2009). It is a German film, and one of the most awesome WW I films I have seen in a long time (since "The Blue Max"). Manfred Von Richtofen was well portrayed, and the flying effects were well done. I will watch it in German next time. Rent or buy this DVD if you are into history or military history, or a good biopic.
