But I suppose that it had to happen eventually. :( And we'll always have memories, reruns, iTunes and hopeful DVD releases.

Sounds like a bad form of "stock rotation" if you ask me.:(

As I said, however, it's an arbitrary limit. Some shows and their creative staff can maintain good quality well beyond six seasons; others can't even get past six minutes. Craig did say they had been struggling so it is possible that Foster's had in fact reached it's limit, but it is also possible that all the team needed was a vacation from the show for a bit, or perhaps an addition or two to the staff, people with fresh ideas (and a proven track record). Ultimately it's Craig's decision, of course, and that is as it should be, but the artificial limit of 78 episodes makes the decision for him, and for every other show as well. Suppose that the Foster's team was not struggling in any way, and indeed had gotten a "second wind" of sorts? What if they'd been on a creative roll? What might be lost in such a case because of this limit? No, I say that every show needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis, as I said earlier. If the ratings are good, and the creative team is happy and wants to continue, then I say let them continue and to hell with this pointless limit... unless of course you relish the idea of watching something called, oh, Kangaroo Samurai Space Gardeners when, had the limit not been in place, you might instead be viewing Good Wilt Hunting 2.

Think about that for a minute.

Once again, I agree. Some shows, indeed, can turn out high quality episodes well beyond six seasons (I point to M*A*S*H, which went on for eleven seasons, but some may debate that point, saying the show got-- to quote Peter Griffin-- "dramatic and preachy" in the latter seasons, when Alan Alda started writing and directing, but I digress), while some shows are of terrible caliber from the get-go.

I understand the lack of inspiration, and accept that. I would, however, like to see if, as you suggested, Cassini, the staff needed a break to recharge or add a new writer or creative consultant or whatnot. I think a case-by-case policy would be much better in the long run-- it would keep high quality shows on the air and less-than-stellar shows off, thus bringing more veiwers to the network and boosting the ratings.

And no, I don't relish the thought of a title card reading Kangaroo Samurai Space Gardeners as opposed to one reading Good Wilt Hunting II. :frankiemad: So, yes-- I did think about it for a minute. A couple minutes, in fact.

One Radical Dude 04-10-2008 11:29 AM

I never understood these limits, either. CN isn't the only one that does it, though. I do understand that Craig accepts it, and that they were beginning to struggle with coming up with more original stuff. Once the show ends, though, they're (CN) definitely going to have some big shoes to fill in. I look forward to what comes out of the Cartoonstitute project.

To be frank, with a name that outrageous, I'd think it would at least be worth a look. :bloocross:

Also, I think it's worth picking up on a point ORD made that CN aren't the only ones who do this. The Disney Channel does operate on that infamous little 65-episode limit, which is even more restrictive, though they were convinced to relax it in the case of Kim Possible.

I certainly do agree with the argument that these things should be judged on a case-by-case basis rather than a set limitation. Still, just to play devil's advocate, there is something to be said for quitting while you're still ahead and going out with a bang. You only need to look to the Simpsons for an idea of what can happen to a show when it keeps on going merely for the sake of it.

They actually appear to have done away with that rule. Last time I checked *almost a year* They actually only run some cartoons for like 30 episodes. In that respect, getting well over 65 episodes is something worth congradulating IMO.

Given the fact that the show hadn't gone downhill. ;)

Which fortunatly, Fosters didn't.

One Radical Dude 04-10-2008 07:04 PM

I forgot to say that who knows; maybe when Foster's reaches it's 10th anniversary, there could be some sort of special. Don't get your hopes up, though. I'm just saying. First thing is first, and that's to see how things go between now and the end of the series. :)

Well, 65 episodes is of course just a maximum limit. I'm sure that there have been several shows which, for whatever reason, Disney has opted to discontinue with well before they've reached that point, though Dave the Barbarian is the only one that comes to mind right now. I don't think that show got more than a single season, but you can correct me if I'm wrong.

Frankie_4_Prez 04-11-2008 04:28 AM

If Bloo were in charge, he'd make it so that 6 x 13 = 188!!!

bloonuggets 04-11-2008 02:28 PM

Well, I got an e-mail from Candi Milo today (4/11) about the episode last night ("Mondo Coco" on 4/10) and she tells us that the last recording session for the final episode is Monday (4/14). She's all sad about it too, as is everyone else.

Invader Bloo 04-12-2008 08:07 AM

I don't get CN if this show is making you big bucks, why can it?

Well, after the show's dead. I'll probably be here just for the RPing.

Frankie_4_Prez 04-12-2008 11:06 AM

Perhaps there will be a Foster's II, kinda like how Ben 10 spawned Ben10 Alien Force, and Foster's II will have a fresh episode count that could go up to another 78.

Maybe that's a horrible idea though. Grown-up Frankie and Mac don't sound nearly as fun as they are right now.

But, Frankie IS already grown up! I agree, though, Mac should remain a kid. Still, that doesn't rule out a spin-off or a sequel of sorts in the (hopefully) near future, or at least a movie now and then. I hope that the finale leaves enough "up in the air" for that possibility.

Or they could do what they did with The Powerpuff Girls and turn Foster's into an Anime....*bricked*

Cassini90125 04-12-2008 08:35 PM

That could work, at least visually; take a good look at my avatar and you'll see what I mean.

It could work, but while keeping the look the same you know they are going to change Frankie character wise, like from a responsible twenty two year old caregiver into a loopy fourteen-sixteen year old high school student. And I'm sorry but I don't want to see that happen. (Really, I don't.)

Cassini90125 04-12-2008 08:45 PM

Nor do I, which is why I specified the visual aspect. I don't even want to think about how they'd change the characters personalities and backgrounds. :P

antgirl1 04-13-2008 12:49 AM

Unless it is greatly pulled off, without the changes or anything...

True. But copyrights/infringments would be the main concern. lol :P

Me neither. They should just leave it the way it is and not even try to produce any spin-offs of any kind. True it may be worth watching, but I still would just prefer they not even go there.

And, ya know what? I'm okay with this. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't want Fosters to end anymore than anyone else here, but I would much rather have it end now while it's still original and entertaining than be dragged on for 10 more seasons using the same recycled jokes and ideas over and over again. Heck, just look at Family Guy and South Park. That's the last thing I'd ever want to happen to Fosters. So, if the writers want to end the show at six seasons, then I'm all for it.

And besides, you have to remember that just because the series may be ending soon doesn't mean that the show is going to disappear. CN will probably show reruns at least for a while after the last ep. and we'll still be able to enjoy it through DVDs, iTunes, and Sparky's download page throughout time immemorial. As long as there are fans, the show will live on.

I just hope that the finale doesn't conclude everything about the show. Some things I want answered and other things I don't.

Medikor 04-14-2008 07:36 AM

A spin-off could work in the sense of being in the same universe but still, for the most part, unrelated. An example could be that Foster's was able to expand and, thus, we watch the exploits of a new home for imaginary friends.
Maybe instead of Mac, we have a little girl who could find herself in a similar situation with her own imaginary friend (or lack thereof). Familiar faces could show up once in a while too, like Frankie and Mr. Harriman showing up to make sure that everything in this new home is alright and running smoothly. Anything is possible really.:D

Aww... It's almost over now... I still have my hopes for a darned good ending (and I have total confidence in the crew to pull this off!).

Chaos Wielder 04-24-2008 10:43 AM

Wow, haven't posted here in a LONG time... :o

Anyway, this news really doesn't come as a shock to me. It's gonna be sad to see Foster's go since it, in my opinion, is one of CN's best shows on air currently, but if it's what has to be done, then I won't complain. After all, we wouldn't want it to become another "SpongeBob" and have the plotline and characters ruined because the writers ran dry on ideas (sorry, Spongefans...I'm even a fan of this show myself, but I really have to admit that it hasn't been the same since season 3). I can understand if they're having trouble thinking up concepts that aren't repetitive. ;) BUT at least this show still has originality and creativity even at this point, so I have to hand it to the crew-they've done a really good job over the years with Foster's. It'll definitely be missed once its gone.

As for Medikor's idea I'd say that that COULD be possible, actually. After all, we have that second Ben 10 series, so you never know...I would only be ok with a spin-off or anything like that if it was done right, though, so honestly, I'm not really dead-set on having a spin-off, but I don't despise the idea, either.

Foster's Geek 287 04-24-2008 02:27 PM

I'm sorry, guys, I've only read pages 1-10 of this topic, but I have to say,
I'm sad and sorry, but then again also happy.

Think about it: The show has had 4 years... Well, 5 years probably by the time it ends, and that's a long time. Also, realize that the limit is actually 52, and Foster's exceeded that by 26, which is very respectable.

I'd rather it end now than it jump the shark. We've explored so many new worlds. The "re-used" ideas ("The Little Peas" for example) were just as fresh as they started. The show started with a TV movie, ended with a TV movie, and with one in the middle.

I just hope the rest of the seasons are released on DVD. When they do, the action will never die down. :)

So thanks, Craig and Lauren, for bringing to life a whole new world. Here's to Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends!

Digifreak642 04-27-2008 12:04 PM

It is sad that this great series is ending, but Craig, Lauren, and everyone else have done a wonderful job. I can't wait until the rest of the episodes, but I sure wish ;D would make another appearance... That doesn't seem like it will happen, though. :'(

Cassini90125 04-27-2008 12:07 PM

You never know. I'd like to see the big lug again, too. Who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky.

Sparky 04-27-2008 12:49 PM

Um, at this point I'm not sure we're even going to see Terrence again, not even in the movie. :/

One Radical Dude 04-27-2008 07:20 PM

There are many characters that we haven't seen in a while that I want to see again before the show ends. However, at this point, I'm not going to expect anything except for a great way to end the series. That's really all I'd ask for.

I remember it, vaguely. It would be quite a twist to end the series that way. Wouldn't be my first choice for and ending but I can't say I'd object to it.

taranchula 05-04-2008 08:40 PM

I just would like to say that comic is made up of 100% all natural triple A "Win"! 8D

Now if they could do a comic that pokes fun of the series finale of "The Sopranos" then that would totally make my year.

Lynnie 05-04-2008 08:43 PM

Yeah, I saw this over there. I didn't like the idea too much although I must admit it's an interesting idea. It was genius in..

St Elsewhere? Whoa.... flash back to the '80s! 8D

jekylljuice 05-05-2008 02:28 AM

Wow. That was the first time I'd seen that comic. It was kind of funny and poignant at the same time. I must have missed out on this whole St. Elsewhere thing, though.
