And so the adventure begins...

My flight took off from Hartford at 6:20 AM Eastern time, ten minutes later than scheduled. That was the fault of the weather. Other than that the trip was uneventful; I proceeded to Cinncinati, changed planes, and it was onward to San Diego. There was some minor turbulance on the second flight but nothing serious. They fed us rather well, too, albeit for an extra charge. I paid, and to kill time I slept as much as possible. More like dozing or napping, at best; kind of hard to sleep on a swaying and rocking plane. Eventually we landed at 10:15 Pacific time, a few minutes ahead of schedule I might add, and after recovering my luggage and taking a few minutes to unwind I got a cab and headed for the Comfort Inn Gaslamp. The driver was a talkative fellow but he had a thick accent so conversation was difficult; I think I got about one word out of every four. Ten minutes later I arrived at the CIG, which, honestly, was a letdown, at first; it's nowhere near as nice as the Marriott, where I stayed last year. But it's livable, and likable after you get used to it, which didn't take long. So I settled in, relaxed for a bit, and after that I headed out for supplies. Supplies come from Ralph's supermarket. All good non-Con things come from Ralph's. Stars, I love that store. ;D Anyway, I shopped, picked up some sandwich materials and a few toiletries I'd forgotten to pack, and then it's back to the hotel where I found ORD checking in and Taranchula standing nearby. Nice to see y'all again, guys. We parted company at that point to take care of various things (my stuff being mostly Sims-related :bloocross:). I probably should have taken a nap; aside from a little dozing on the plane I'd been awake for roughly 24 hours at that time and it was beginning to wear me down. Eh, whatever. I'm on vacation, I'll sleep later. Taranchula knocked on my door a little later; he and ORD and BlueBottleFlyer are going to the mall, do I want to come? A few minutes later we're all heading for the mall, a five-story, open-air structure packed with restaurants, specialty shops, and a Hot Topic. Yeah, we stopped there; had to see the Cheese stuff in person, y'know. Place gives me the heebie-jeebies. We hit a few other stores and after that we were off to the Marriott to join Sparky and Government Man, a ten-minute walk that took much, much longer than ten minutes, but I'll let someone else explain about that.
Spoiler Below
Do not listen to ORD when he says "This way" or "I know where we're going".

Eventually we found the Marriott and made our way to Sparky and GM's room and a little while later we all headed downstairs to one of the hotel's restaurants for dinner. I had the fish and chips. Then it was back to Sparky's room for a little idle conversation, a little relaxing, and a little planning. It was getting late by then so the four of us headed back to the CIG, pausing long enough in our travels for a very long train to get out of our way. We parted company and headed to our respective rooms where I checked in here briefly and finally collapsed, exhausted, having not slept for over 36 hours. It had been a very long day, but a very good long day, too. :)

That was Tuesday. Today is Wednesday, and so far I've gone out for a sandwich and typed this post. Later on the entire lot of us will converge on the Convention Center to register and get our badges. In the meantime I'll try to keep myself entertained. Shouldn't be too hard. ;)

For the record, I'll eventually be posting some pics of the trip on my profile page. Nothing there right now; when I upload them I'll mention it here. :)

Glad you got here OK.:) My hat goes off to you for getting to sleep on a plane. I tried on my 2nd flight between Heathrow and LAX, it was impossible. I think I only managed around 10 minutes or so.
I had a feeling the "10-minute walk that wasn't 10 minutes" would end up on here somehow.:D

Sparky 07-23-2008 01:36 PM

I just finished repairing the Bloo costume. It was an adventure. ORD had given me some of the steel boning the creator had used to give it its shape, but I had no way to cut it. Luckily a maintenance guy in the hotel did it for me. :D Yeah, the costume was in much worse shape this year than last, last year I could just re-glue the boning, this year I had to tear a lot of it out and replace it. At least there were no actual rips or tears in the fabric this time.

koosie 07-23-2008 01:45 PM

Haha! It has begun! :bendy:

Keep sending updates guys and enjoy yourselves! Have to drink to us absent friends in the grizzly outerworld. :(

Bloo2daMacs 07-23-2008 06:27 PM

Ah, I remember going to a Comfort Inn on my trip to San Diego last year. For me, it was an awful experience, especially considering there was a much nicer comfort in (at the sme price I believe) just a while away. Not much differences room-wise, but the environment was nicer.

Lynnie 07-23-2008 07:01 PM

That's awesomeriffic to hear that everyone made it down there safe and sound. That is, SAFE and SOUND. :) Double yay.

Look forward to hearing more updates, including preview night tonight, if there are any. Have fun for those of us who couldn't make it. That means, have even more fun than usual. Yes, that's an order. Lynnie has spoken.

Cassini90125 07-23-2008 08:13 PM

Well, let's see...

Around 3:30-ish we gathered at Sparky's room once again. CG was there this time; nice to know she got here safe and sound. I didn't really want to walk to the Marriott again so I took one of the local bike taxis. Cost $5.00 but was worth it for the time I saved. Soon thereafter it was time to go register so off we went, stopping briefly at one of the Marriott's computer terminals so Taranchula could print the form he needed. Registration requires a form with your personal barcode on it, which the Con organizers email to you when you pre-register online. That done, we hiked over to the Convention Center to the back of a fast-moving line and in less time than it takes to tell we were up on the second floor, handing over our forms and ID's to the people who register everyone, we got our badges and presto! We can now hang out at the Con all day, everyday, until it ends Sunday night. We separated at that point; CG and her friends went off to I don't know where, ORD and BBF headed out to do their thing, and the rest of us went back to the Marriott to look over the schedule of events. There's less for me personally to see and do at the Con than there is for everyone else, I think; don't get me wrong, I enjoy comics and animation quite a bit, I'm just not as into all of it as everyone else is. Still plenty going on to keep me occupied though, and I'll pass along the details as they come up, either here or in a more appropriate thread ("Guys! I just learned that Frankie's college major was-" goes in the Frankie Foster Discussion Thread, for instance). Anyway, the four of us (me, Taranchula, Sparky, and Government Man) eventually got hungry and headed out th the marina area, where we settled on one of the sandwich shops and dug in. It's a very nice area but I neglected to get any pics. Eh, we'll be back before the Con is over, I'll get them then. Having finished our meal we headed back to the Convention Center, specifically the jam-packed Exhibition Hall, which is where we met up with ORD and BBF, and where we stopped by Lauren's booth to say hello. Craig was there, too. Always nice to see them both; after all, they're the people behind Foster's and Foster's is why this Forum exists. I don't really know either of them all that well but I can tell you that they're two highly creative, talented people and I'm glad I've had the chance to meet them. Maybe we'll talk a bit more sometime; kind of hard to get to know anyone in a crowded, noisey exhibition hall, and let me tell you, it was very crowded in there. Tolerable if you're prepared for it, but given that this was just preview night, I wonder how much more crowded it may get later in the week. (Shudders at the thought.) We were at the booth for 10-15 minutes or so, after which we split up to do our own things. I wandered around for a bit, taking in the sights and sounds, gathering a few pics here and there, and finally I made my way back to the CIG to write all this and post it while it's still relatively fresh in my memory. A little later I'm heading out again, this time to find a restaurant that catches my eye and get myself a steak. Or maybe some seafood. I really haven't made up my mind yet.

Anyway, that was Wednesday in a nutshell, and yes, miss Lynnie, I am having fun for everyone. Next year you can hopefully make your own fun here. ;)
And I can stay in and play with my Sims. 8D

Sparky 07-23-2008 08:30 PM

After leaving Lauren's booth GM and I started at one end of the Hall and started systematically going up and down the aisles (didn't get terribly far) - the first stop is always the huge t-shirt store where I got a Bender shirt and a Foster's shirt ("Still Bored"). We hit the Telltale Games booth and I bought the new poster and Season Two of Sam and Max. I mentioned that I wanted copies of the shorts the company put out a while ago which are only on the Season One disc TTG distributes, but I already own the Best Buy edition and don't want to buy another copy...so they gave me one for free. :D In exchange they want lots of pictures of me with Plush Max. ;)

Anyways this post is taking too long to type, lol. I'll tell more later.

taranchula 07-23-2008 08:47 PM

Yep, everything happened just as Sparky and Cassini described, I should know because I was there.

Yes we once more got to chat it up with Lauren and Craig at Lauren's booth, glad to see the both of them are doing well.

It was also at that same booth where I got to meet forum member cartman414 for somewhat the first time. I say somewhat because aside from maybe a quick hello or nod last year, we never formally introduced ourselves to each other.

After that I just took off on my own, did a few laps of the con floor, picked up a few posters and other freebies, played and looked at a few video games at the Konami, Capcom and THQ booths. And bought Sam and Max: The Complete Series DVD set from the Shout! Factory booth. And then hoofed it back to the Hotel.

So now that preview night is history it's time to get the main event started.

Sparky 07-23-2008 08:50 PM

I didn't know that was cartman. :wiltshock: Someone should have told me. :P Well I hope I get to see him tomorrow...

No worries. We were both equally preoccupied.

It was great to meet both ORD and taranchula.

Spent more time than I should have trying to get one of the bags from the WB booth. Man, what a crazy mob.

Hey, I saw you standing at the booth with us, didn't realise who you were. Sorry I didn't say hi, I'm kind of shy when it comes to meeting new people.

One Radical Dude 07-23-2008 11:57 PM

I guess everyone wants to know about my Wednesday at Comic-Con. I woke up completely just after 7 AM. I had to get a Starbucks beverage, went to San Diego State University Aztec Recreation Center (used the San Diego Trolley a lot). and bowled a few rounds with BBF. I reached my highest score ever of 130-something. We both had a great time there. We went to Target and Best Buy to see if there were any Foster's DVDs, and we were unsuccessful there. We went to the Marriott to meet with Sparky and GM, then headed for the Convention Center to pick up badges. That went really well, then BBF and I went back to Comfort Inn Gaslamp and had to get something over there. After that, it was back to the Convention Center for us to enter for Preview Night. Waiting to enter the Exhibit Hall was a bit long, but not terrible (it just felt like forever). I stopped by to see Lauren Faust with BBF, then I tried to look for a friend that lives in my hometown (not joking)...wasn't successful early on, briefly visited the CN booth, went to see Lauren again with the rest of the guys (this time, Craig McCracken was around)..and I saw cartman for the first time, spent more time trying to locate a hometown friend...and I finally saw him within 30 minutes left of the remaining time at the Exhibit Hall. I took many photos, and I went back to the Marriott to rest my legs a bit, left and took a trolley back to where Comfort Inn is. I also went to Ralph's. That was pretty much it. Oh, and CEEG and someone outside of the forum...we saw them earlier, too. :) Man, what a day!

cartman414 07-24-2008 12:20 AM

I've never spotted Foster's at a Best Buy store. That could've been it.

jekylljuice 07-24-2008 02:00 AM

Sounds like you're having a wonderful time over there, I must say I'm quite envious. At least spare a thought for your poor pal JJ while you're over there, huh, presently inflicted with a critical case of wanderlust, but also saddled down with this evil 20,000 word dissertation she has to be writing.

Ccook50 07-24-2008 03:05 AM

Satellite channel G4 will start live coverage of the convention tonight. I'll tune in to see if I can spot anyone I know.

And I'm listening to the stream of KNX radio (1070 khz) out of Los Angeles. They've brought up Comic-Con several times this morning.

Sparky 07-24-2008 01:40 PM

I assumed I would be carrying Max around a lot, making it easy to spot me in any crowd shot shown on TV, but I can't even move in the Convention Hall if I have him. So I won't be carrying him after all. :P Look for my Bloo backpack, I guess. ;) We have not yet heard about the CN interview thing, either.

One Radical Dude 07-24-2008 06:34 PM

I think we're going to do the interviewing tomorrow (probably around the FHFIF/PPG panel). I'm hoping that it won't effect me from getting another chance to do another video with Keith Ferguson this year, because I kinda want to do another one this year. ;) Not a bad Thursday/Day 1, though I'm disappointed that the interview and filming didn't happen. Oh, well. Gonna eat, and then go back to the Convention Center!

Do you think there's any possibility of you making it out here next summer, JJ? :D We can be rookies together. And if you want, maybe even roomies as it's much cheaper to room with someone. And you've probably already noticed that, with the exception of Sparky, all the forum attendees are guys. :nyah:

Bummer the CN interview didn't happen today. Hopefully tomorrow. And all will go smoothly. I sooo hope it happens! Do you know how awesome that will be??

Ok, yes. Yes, you probably do.

It's a shame you couldn't make it, Lynnie, would've loved to have met you. Hope you make it there next year.:)
And, you forgot CG, so that makes 2 girls.

Sparky 07-24-2008 07:57 PM

I'm just gonna wear my Mac costume to the panel tomorrow and see what happens afterwords. *shrug* I do want to try and meet Charlie Band at some point, I think he's going to be there after 2.

One Radical Dude 07-24-2008 10:04 PM

I didn't want to leave the Convention Center early, so I had thought about doing something after the closing of the Exhibit Hall. I chose to watch the Star Wars Fan Film Awards, and I must say that it was quite fun. If I go next year, I definitely want to see next year's show.

Cassini90125 07-24-2008 11:19 PM

Due to a rather bad headache I opted to stay in my room for the first part of the day. Not sure what triggered it but I'm willing to bet the sudden change in my diet from rice and vegetables to sodium and lard had something to do with it. I missed the Spore panel with Will Wright but it wasn't all that important. Later in the day I made two trips to the exhibition hall, taking a slightly different route each time so as to see more of the city. And a fine city it is, too, clean and neat, sporting a variety of architectural styles and trimmed with trees and other greenery on almost every street. Both trips to the exhibition hall were primarily for the purpose of taking pictures, and I did get a few good ones. I also took quite a few around the city itself, away from the convention center, mostly of skyscrapers and local businesses. The real fun for me didn't come until around 8:30 PM, which was when I headed out for dinner. The city has a delightfully bewildering variety of restaurants to choose from, and nearly international cuisine you can think of; Afghani, Indian, Polynesian, Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, you name it, it's probably around here somewhere. My first choice was Boca de Beppo, an Italian place about a half a block away from my hotel, but unfortunately there was a line waiting to get in. Not for me, thank you; if I want to stand in line for food I'll do it at the golden arches and get a Big Mac. From there I wandered up a random street, rather aimlessly, seeking nothing in particular other than a chair and a meal. Any place I looked at, I tried to get a view of the patrons, to see if the place might have a dress code. If it seemed to, I wrote it off, partially because I'm not dressed like they probably want, and partially because I consider dress codes to be an elitist activity and I don't support elitism. One's outfit has little to do with one's character, nor is it necessarily an indicator of wealth. Anyway, the search continued. My next stop, I don't even know what the place was called, nor did I have any idea what they served, but I didn't really care; the idea here was to try something new and different, not the same old familiar stuff. No room, unfortunately; whatever it was, it was popular. The hostess told me it'd be 20-25 minutes but I didn't want to wait around that long. She also told me that they're less crowded earlier in the evening so I may swing by later in the week, assuming I can find the place again. My third stop was at the Dakota Steak House; success! I was promptly seated at a sidewalk table, given bread and Coke, and soon thereafter I was dining on a perfectly cooked steak and the best scallops I've had in years, accompanied by a good sized potato, green beans, and mushrooms, all of which came with descriptive adjectives on the menu that added to the price. Money well spent; it was an excellent meal, and my location gave me an excellent view, too. Dinner and a show, sort of. It was getting late by then so I thanked my server, paid the bill, and headed for home. Problem was, I wasn't too clear on exactly which direction to go; I hadn't really been paying close attention to landmarks or anything else during the journey. Whatever. I set out towards what I believe was East, turned here and there, and a half-hour later I said the heck with it and hailed the next bike cab I saw. Adding to the fun was him taking me to the city's other Comfort Inn (oops), and getting into a race with another bike cab. Yep, my life is one big adventure, isn't it? 8D In any event I finally made it back to the right hotel, gave my Frankie plushie a hug, and sat down to write this. Another long but interesting day; not a lot happened that was Con-related but it was certainly fun. ;D

Bloo2daMacs 07-25-2008 06:34 AM

I love that city. I wish I could be out there at the con, maybe next year.

...Okay I doubt that, but... eventually. It would be hard to find me if I got lost in a crowd. I'd be the guy that looks exactly like every one else, but without a costume. :P

EDIT: I forgot to mention I had a dream last night about the con. It was at the Foster's booth, then Craig said something like "So, I'm sure you're all here for either Powerpuff Girls or Fosters' Home for Imaginary Friends-" then some kid started jumping around with his hand raised saying "I'M HERE FOR FOSTER'S." It was... amusing. 8D

Cassini90125 07-25-2008 06:47 AM

Hmm...

"The NFRPers Go To Comic-Con!"

There's your next RP plot. 8D

It's about ten of 8:00 AM here right now and cloudy. The Foster's/PPG panel is coming up a little later today; hopefully we'll get some information to pass along to y'all. :)

Cassini90125 07-25-2008 02:14 PM

The CN interview with Sparky and ORD was filmed about an hour ago. I don't know how it went or what was said because the moment I saw the camera I got the hell out of there. I'll leave it to one of the others to tell us more.

The movie is scheduled to air in November, and as it turns out it's not the last episode. The show will continue to air new episodes into January of 2009. We aren't getting any additional episodes, let me be clear on that, they are simply spreading out the remaining few Season Six episodes over a longer time frame. We were also told the titles of the movie and the final episode but I don't recall them completely, only that the word "Imagination" is in the movie title and Bloo's name is part of the finale's title. Wish I'd written them down. I'm going back to the exhibition hall to Lauren's booth in about two hours, I'll see if I can clarify things a bit.

We also were treated to a clip from "Return Of The Bloo Superdude", which was hilarious and had Frankie in a prominent role.

That's all for now.

Sparky 07-25-2008 02:46 PM

The interview was filmed with us standing in the direct sun so forgive me if 1) when/if they air any of it I seem loopy and 2) I don't recall everything right now that we said a half hour ago. :P

Anyways first they just filmed me and ORD in costume, not speaking, for a couple minutes, just to get some shots, then we did the interview with ORD out of his costume and me without the backpack and wig (and with my glasses back on so I could, you know, see). They asked us stuff like what's your favorite ep, who's your favorite character, what do you like best about the show, is it your favorite show ever, have you met the cast and crew, how many conventions have you been to, have you found/made any really cool Foster's items, what kind of merchandise would you like to see, what kinds of stuff would you like to see on the CN web site, have you played the online games/will you play Fusionfall, that kind of thing. I think we both just said pretty much the kinds of things you'd expect ORD and me to say to those questions. We talked about this site a little bit too.

I honestly don't know if this footage is destined for the channel or the website. They may have said, but I am tired and dehydrated and I don't remember. :P

Oh and the guys were nice. And we did see Lori briefly before the panel, she was on her way out of here. Good to see her if only for a minute. We saw some other Foster's cosplayers (waynekaa's group?) at the panel, Mac, Frankie, and Goo. They also had an awesome Mojo Jojo and Him. I got some photos but my videocamera's not functioning so no video (turned out they didn't allow it again this year anyways). Tom Kane was actually there too, he was unscheduled.

The neatest thing was running into Tom Kenny in the line for Starbucks at our hotel this morning, lol. He got the last Cheese badge strap I had made, and I gave the last Bloo one to Keith Ferguson before the panel.

pitbulllady 07-25-2008 04:37 PM

Man, I wish I could be there. I'm watching coverage on GForce TV on satellite now, but they're really concentrating entirely on comics and movies based on comics, and haven't mentioned animation at all so far. Say "hi" to the Foster's crew for the crazy red-head in South Carolina for me!

Cassini90125 07-25-2008 05:51 PM

Movie title: Destination Imagination

Final Episode title: Goodbye To Bloo

Both confirmed by Lauren about a half-hour ago.

Lynnie 07-25-2008 06:27 PM

The news is now up on ToonZone, too.

^This was posted over two hours after Cass posted the info here. Hehe, pretty cool. We learned of it HERE first. Thank you Cass! Also thanks for posting how each day goes for you. I'm enjoying reading them, it helps me at least imagine I'm there too. :)

I'm surprised the movie isn't the finale. But I'm not upset about it. The title of the last episode sounds sad, but I have confidence in Craig and Co. that they'll keep us fans happy. I just hope CN doesn't mess anything up. ::)

And Yay for interviews! Wow, that's so totally awesome, I'm without words. Really, I am. ....Yeah, nuthin'. Wow, just Wow. Congrats on that!  I hope they air it! And if they do, I hope it's uploaded to YouTube or something because what are the chances that I'm going to be home and watching CN right when they air it? Very, very minimal.

Bloo2daMacs 07-25-2008 06:59 PM

Well, if any one happens to see the Foster's Panel on Youtube or something, please post it here. I'm sure I didn't need to ask that, because some one was gonna post it eventually anyway.... but.... yeah.

So, Sparky, you guys were filmed by Cartoon Network?! ....Wow. I hope to see the video soon.

BluebottleFlyer 07-25-2008 08:39 PM

Well, I'm not really sure what to say that hasn't already been said about the PPG/Foster's panel. Thoroughly enjoyed it, though there was the obvious bittersweetness with the show's imminent end mentioned. Great clip from "Bloo Superdude" in there, too.:)
Got some autographs from the crew at the signing later on, that was something else. You can tell that they love what they do, not just on Foster's, but on any show, and they're really great people. I'm glad I was given the chance to meet them.:D

That would be truly awesome. Presently, I'm not sure what I'll be doing this time next year, or how I'll be placed money-wise, but if it seemed like a viable option...well, we'll see nearer the time. :D

Glad that everyone's having such a great time over there. Goodbye to Bloo, huh? Sounds kind of heavy. I'll wager that Mac's nightmare of his family moving away to Singapore might be materialising into a genuine threat after all.

Baaawww, that's depressing :[!!!

Glad all of y'alls are having fun! It sounds like a blasty-blast. I so wish I could be there... especially since apparently there was a Dr. Horrible panel. Bogus.

It's interesting that the movie isn't the last episode; hopefully the fact that the real finale is a regular-length one will maybe mean that nothing that will make me sob like a baby will have time to materialize. They sure aren't pulling any punches with the title, though. Sob. SOB.

So from reading that ToonZone article, I'm getting that no new episodes will air until 2009? Is that true?

And: Goodbye to Bloo. Just reading that title totally depresses me.

Glad to see everyone's having a good time and...I'm jealous, man! I think it'd be awesome to go to Comic Con just to meet some of you guys.
