Without divulging anything pertinent to you folks on the West Coast, suffice it to say that it sucks to be Frankie Foster in this episode.

antgirl1 05-04-2007 03:34 PM

...And this episode had to do with WHAT? Maybe I misread the plot. If I missed something about this, I missed what this was about, since I didn't see anything that had to do with the "CN invaded" theme...

For once, I was disappointed...

At least, though, there WERE a few good parts...(like Eduardo being all lovey-dovey on anyone, including Wilt) yet, most of this was just random.

If it was called "Foster's Randomness", it'd make A LOT more sense.

The grade? C-.

emperor26 05-04-2007 03:35 PM

Meh, this was an okay episode.

The one thing I did enjoy was Eduardo being high. Other than that, it was a so-so start for season 5.

Hopefully, the next episode on the 18th will put this show back on track.

Nyo 05-04-2007 03:39 PM

It. was. hilarious. I'm not a big Ed fan, but wow!

Spoiler Below
Him high on laughing gas=love. Also, to be fair to Frankie fans, she goes through some suckage.

Rinny562 05-04-2007 03:40 PM

Cheese disappointed me in this episode :(

But seeing Ed high and his conversation with Frankie and Bloo and the dentist and Wilt on the street....wow XD Good start for Ed

Pawbah 05-04-2007 03:43 PM

I'm on the west coast but I got to see it because I have a satellite dish. :D

Cheese wasn't at his best in this, but I did laugh a lot at Ed. I kind of missed the line, but did he tell Frankie that she smelled like Pineapple? I can't wait for more Foster's episodes.

bloonuggets 05-04-2007 03:44 PM

So did anyone get the "Werewolves of London" joke on the cover of the tabloid newspaper Blooregard was reading? That was a song made famous by the late Warren Zevon in the 1970's.

Invader Bloo 05-04-2007 03:50 PM

This episode was waaaaay too random. It was OK. Hopefully the rest of season 5 will be as great as S4.

Spoiler Below
Yet again Frankie goes threw some crap again, mainly at the end.:(
Ed high was the best part of the episode!

Cuckoo 05-04-2007 03:53 PM

I was a bit disappointed in this episode, as Frankie was treated poorly, Coco played only a small role, and the plot made absolutely no sense whatsoever IMO.

However, some scenes were okay. I have to admit that Eduardo on laughing gas was fun, as well as the courtroom scene.

"C" the Dragon 05-04-2007 04:04 PM

I think this episode is okay. Poor Frankie, though.:( Ed in high sure is funny!8D And Wilt as a lawyer really IS cute, lol!:D Bloo is just too funny! And I find the random guy hilarious!:D And Cheese? Eh, his only line is "Gottagogottagogottago", and I just want him say something else, since it's innoying(sp?) me:P

Cassini90125 05-04-2007 04:04 PM

I'll give it an A, or an 8/10, whichever you prefer. Cheese wasn't as annoying as I'd feared, Eduardo tanked up on nerve gas was hilarious, and lots of Frankie. What more could I ask for?

Was it just me, or was there a very brief appearance by Dylan in the theater audience?

One of the funniest moments for me was when Mac grabbed Madam Foster and carted her away; it reminded me so much of one of Kageri's fanart pieces, the one where Bloo is screaming about "I won't tolerate this!" as Mac tries to control him. 8D

It's amazing that Frankie can go through all that she went through, be covered with mud, have her hair completely messed up, and still look beautiful.

Nice job, guys! :)

I saw Dylan too! I wanted to smack him.

What was up with that Opossum on Frankie. That actually was kind of creepy looking.

NO KIDDING!

Seriously, I still don't know how to describe this episode. I can't say I hated it, but it was a bit of a disappointment. It really was another one of those "Let's Dump on Frankie" episodes, just as much so as that one with that guy from, you know....that place with the bacon. The thing that bothered me so much, though, was that some of the characters seemed so out-of-character. With Cheese, it's understandable that he'd do something like run around yelling "Gotta Go, Gotta Go" incessently-annoying, yes, but still Cheese. He probably saw a Detrol commercial, and he fixated on it. Everyone just took it the wrong way because they expect Cheese to be normal, and he's clearly not, not for an Imaginary Friend, or a human. Bloo was very much himself, too, especially given his previous obessions with brain-sucking zombies. And, it was REALLY ironic that last night's new episode of "CSI" featured a plotline of these nut-cases who were just as convinced as Bloo that aliens from outer space(reptilian aliens) were colonizing Earth and taking over. The plots were so similar, in that regard, that it's scary.

All of the above is pretty much available through the previews, so I'll put the rest of my comment in spoiler tags for those who have not seen this episode yet.
Spoiler Below

Like I said, Frankie really catches you-know-what in this episode. She is constantly harrassed by Madame Foster over her cell phone, because we find out that she and Mac are key witnesses in Madame Foster's court trial, in which she is being SUED by Jackie Khones over her alleged theft of a tuna sandwich, which SHE made for herself, and HE claimed by writing his name on it in mustard(no doubt this is a parody of those equally-stupid, but very real, court settlements you hear about on the news)! Now, why Jackie would sue the person who gives him free room and board is beyond me, but there it is. Wilt is her defense attorney. He's reading a book, A Dummy's Guide to Legal Defense, or something like that, while in court. Wilt worried me in this one-not ONCE does he flash that trademark smile of his; for the most part, he looks like his best friend in the whole world has just died. He didn't look this "emo" in Good Wilt Hunting while he was gazing out the window at all those happy Imaginary Friend/creator reunions! He barely spoke two words through the whole episode, and when he did, it was to grovel and apologize to Madame Foster for losing her court case. Seriously, if Wilt isn't on some antidepressant, he sure as heck NEEDS to be, and if he already is, I think they need to increase his dosage, big-time!
Eduardo was the funniest aspect, actually the ONLY funny aspect, of the whole episode. If it weren't for his "Cheech and Chong" stoner schtick, I don't think that I would have laughed once. He really saved it, honestly. Maybe they need to give Wilt some of the same stuff that Ed got at the dentist's office. I did snicker over what now appears to be a running gag on the show-possums-this time being the actual first time a possum has appeared, clinging in terror to Frankie's hood on her jacket, with her so frazzled that she doesn't even know it's there. She has had to stand in line at the post office with an angry mob behind her while her grandmother yelled at her on the phone, demanding collector's stamps that are kept in the back(holding up the line even more), she's had to chase down a frantic Cheese, not knowing why he keeps running around yelling "GOTTA GO!" non-stop, she's had to deal with a wasted 575-pound purple monster, try to locate Bloo in a dark theater(where he's watching a tacky B-movie about brain-sucking aliens), chase down Cheese some more, put up with this intrusive hippy in drag, try to make it to court for her grandmother and deal with HER after being too late, look for Bloo, Ed, and Cheese after Bloo decides that Cheese is an alien leader and tries to get the other aliens to come pick him up, climbs a mountain to a space observatory where Bloo has taken Cheese, falls over the mountain after Cheese, acquires the afore-mentioned possum, finally gets Cheese home to Louise, only to find out that Cheese just does this "GOTTA GO!" thing for no reason at all sometimes. Everyone else but Frankie winds up in jail again-Wilt, Ed, Mac, Bloo, Coco and Jackie. By this time, Ed is sober and horribly upset that his pants fell off again and everyone saw his "tushie", Mac is mad at Bloo, Coco and Jackie are fighting over another sandwich(speaking of aliens, where's Experiment 626?), and Wilt looks like he'd fork over a dollar for someone to shoot him and put him out of his misery. Even "Marvin the Paranoid Android" looks happier than Wilt does, and it almost felt like Wilt's presence was just a sort of token "let's find some way to have Wilt in here". I would have preferred not having him at all in this episode, like in "Frankie My Dear", or just having him do a brief walk-through, like in "My So-Called Wife", to seeing him so depressed.

Again, I didn't hate it, but I still think that out of all the episodes made, this is my least favorite. Sorry Lauren and Craig and the guys, but it was a disappointment, especially after such a long spell of no new episodes. It really felt like y'all were forced to come up with something to fit CN'S "Alien Invasion" plan.

Wilt looks thoroughly miserable throughout much of it. You know how he usually acts when someone else is pouring out their problems to him, how he always smiles and talks so reassuringly to them, trying to help them see the bright side of things? Well, when a sobered-up Ed is telling Wilt how awful he feels that people saw him without his pants on(Cheese snatched his belt, and at the time, a stoned Eduardo thought it was funny), Wilt doesn't say a thing. He doesn't even look at Ed, he just sort of slumps over with this really down expression on his face, like he really isn't aware of anything that Eduardo is actually saying, he's so lost in his own miserable universe.

I'm surprised someone didn't put Cheese out of his misery. He really got irritating as the half-hour wore on.

Mac's assessment of Bloo at the end was quite apropos.

Yeah, he did, and yeah, it WAS! Bloo really, really did remind me of those people in last night's "CSI" who believed that they had to save humanity from this alien takeover, though, except Bloo didn't kill Cheese and cut off his head and mount it on the wall like a trophy. I'm REALLY surprised that Eduardo didn't wind up doing some version of the "Dave's Not Here, Man" routine, either(those of you who were fans of Cheech and Chong will know what I mean, lol)! THAT would have made my night, Manic-depressed Wilt notwithstanding, and been a WONDERFUL piece of ammo to use against those who claim that Foster's is "just a kiddie show" and adults have no business watching it!

But Cheese wasn't funny.
I loved the Jackie Khones V. Martha Foster case, though. If it weren't for that, I'd hate the episode. :jk:

Okay, I just got done watching it, and it was....AWESOME! :D It was just so random! And I love random things. I felt sorry for Frankie though. ^^; I'd give this episode a 10/10. Oh yeah, I also loved Eduardo in this episode. Oh man....xD

Sparky 05-04-2007 06:54 PM

I'm afraid I disliked it. Perhaps not with great intensity, but I didn't find any part of it amusing or really entertaining. I'm glad we got to see Louise again though. But I really kinda hated how the beginning of the episode had to conform to CN's little alien campaign thing, and the episode has no title card. Seeing as the credits were part of the Invaded intro, I take it there is no "normal" cut of the episode that does have a title screen. Nor did I think the ending justified anything.

Basically the only thing that would "save" this episode for me is if the end credit gag turns out to be a scene of Craig working on an episode of Lauren like, either grumbling about network bigwigs or on the phone with some studio exec arguing that they're crushing his artistic vision. Though I suppose they wouldn't have attempted to do something like that even if they wanted to, lol. :D

Anyways I will *attempt* to upload this ep to my Megaupload account tonight; please gank it and put it on Youtube or wherever else you want.

Crash-N-Cortex 05-04-2007 06:57 PM

The episode was okay. It's nice to see Cheese again, and he's just as annoying as ever. Louise finally made a second appearance in this episode. I like how Ed was acting in the episode. It was funny at times, yet I wouldn't consider this episode my favorite.

bloonuggets 05-04-2007 08:21 PM

This wasn't one of the best episodes. Did anyone see Frankie having an aardvark on her back when she visited Louise?

Sparky 05-04-2007 08:42 PM

It was a possum, apparently displaced from the trashcan she was lugging around with Cheese inside (if I recall the scene correctly). I know aardvarks were mentioned in the episode but it wouldn't have made much sense for one to be just randomly clinging to Frankie's back.

Btw I am uploading this ep to Megaupload right now, but for some unknown reason it is going SUPER slowly. :P

billytheskink 05-04-2007 10:37 PM

I thought this episode was fantastic.

Certainly not plot-driven and certainly not without flaws, but there was so much to enjoy.

Frankie gets run through the ringer, a bit too much I thought (the hill climbing ordeal went over the top), but the resulting conflict works (at times). She's got more hair than you realize...
Eduardo's schtick made the episode, Cheese did nothing for the show (though nice to see Louise).

I'm awarding bonus points for the Napoleon Dynamite parody at the end and the package addressed to Saul Malone at the beginning. (even though I do not care for either of those characters in their original programs)

If anyone else knows where to look, there is the usual Moonsong encode going around, its been on usenet since about 4 hours ago.....

TheLH 05-05-2007 12:41 AM

Where, exactly?

Howard 05-05-2007 12:53 AM

I recorded it on my DVR, and I just got done seeing it (was at an all night jam session). It was a grab bag type episode, and yes - Cheese did get irritating as the episode continued. Jackie Khones definitely made the episode, and Eduardo being high as a kite was hilarious! Martha Foster was a bit cranky (but she had a trying day), and Frankie was frazzled. If you look in the theater, You can see Dylan (Frankie's date). I liked it, albeit that it was not one of their best.

Ooh, thanks much, Sparky! :) I couldn't get a torrent of the Moonsong-endoded version yet, but this one did the trick until I can find it.

As for the episode itself, I'm going to agree with the majority here; not one of the best. At the outset, I was really just happy to be watching a new Foster's, and I remained pretty well-disposed to it, but as it panned out, the episode just wore me down. :macwor:

Like others have said, "random" is the key word here. As it turned out, the "Bloo believes Cheese is an alien" plot synopsis that we've been discussing all this time was something of a red herring; frankly, I'd hardly even call this a Cheese episode, because that would wrongly imply that Cheese was the narrative focal point, or indeed that the episode had a narrative focal point at all. There were no story arcs or even the remotest sense of a three-act structure; what few plot strands there were (Bloo's alien conspiracy theories, Madame Foster's court case, Frankie/Mac's attempts to keep control) were handled in such a flippant and inconsequential way that they couldn't be confused for anything other than what they were, namely, devices with which to cram as many lunatic jokes, characters and scenarios as they could into the 20 minutes. This isn't actually a criticism in itself - many Foster's episodes in the past have worked on this premise with Store Wars, Partying Is Such Sweet Soiree and Camp Keep A Good Mac Down immediately springing to mind - but for my money, Cheese A Go-Go pushed the formula too far; the lunacy was too hyper (about 75% of the lines were shouted or screamed, even discounting Cheese's incessant yelling), the situations got too random (centering a plotline around a court case over a sandwich? And the bearded guy in drag? ???), and the plot too minimal (basically, crazy stuff happened for twenty minutes, then it just...ended). In this kind of environment, it's also inevitable that "voice-of-reason" characters like Frankie, Mac and Wilt are going to get marginalised and trampled, which negates the balance they normally bring and tips the show further over the edge. To be honest, by the end of it I felt a little like Frankie looked: tired-out and frazzled. :(

Having said all that, this is Foster's, so there were things I enjoyed. The animation is undoubtedly better now, notably in the cinema sequence; more fluidity, more dynamism, more flexibility on perspectives and better effects on things such as lighting. In actual content terms, I must admit that one of the advantages to the unrestrained madcap style is that the writers throw so much material at you that something has to stick; what stuck most with me were High Eduardo (naturally; Craig McCracken seems to have this idea that Hispanic accents are inherently funny, and I'm increasingly inclined to agree :P) and lazy, indifferent cheapskate Jackie Khones (again, that voice coming out of that body is just funny, no matter what he's doing). Even though neither of them had their finest hour, I also did enjoy watching Frankie and Wilt, maybe because I really felt for them here; Bedraggled Frankie w/ Possum was an amusing visual, and I quite liked Wilt's "What the hell are these idiots doing?" demeanour. He also had my favourite line of the episode:

"Uh...objection!"
"Wh...objection? On what grounds?!"
"I...I don't know, I'm sorry."

Overall, a lower-tier showing to kick off Season Five, but I'm not worrying too much yet. I didn't feel that Seasons Two and Three started that strongly either (with Partying Is Such Sweet Soiree and Eddie Monster, respectively), and both of them went on to turn out some classics; indeed, the forthcoming "The Buck Swaps Here" already sounds much more promising to me. And when all's said and done, I'm still just glad to have the show back.

Invader Bloo 05-05-2007 05:41 AM

Someone look at the Court scene frame by frame, Fred Fredburger does appear!

I'm really diapointed with this episode, may be as bad as the last season 4 episode (the Goo one).:(

Soon I will be posting the DVD rips :)

Shuvcat 05-05-2007 06:50 AM

I liked it. I think the flaws came from the fact that the writers were being shoehorned into the alien theme, but it was still cool.
I liked how Madame Foster snapped and tried to climb over the pulpit to beat up the judge. :)
There sure are a lot of first-run B-movies in the Foster's universe. Come on, you can barely see the strings!
Of course my favorite part was stoned Ed! He looked kind of freaky with one tooth pulled, poor thing. :-/ Hope the new one comes in soon!
At first I thought that thing on Frankie's back was a rat!! I like rats.
Any Foster's is better than none. Keep them coming, guys!

bloonuggets 05-05-2007 07:14 AM

BTW, the episode aired with the regular opening today (5/5), and the credits had Frankie still running errands. Sunday night and Tuesday night (5/6 and 8) will have the repeats in the regular format.

LaBlooGirl 05-05-2007 07:15 AM

What the??? I feel like I got spun around rapidly by a mad dog on a leash. Or something.

I'd say 5/10. Okay. Not great.

What I did like....was Bloo. Such a cutie. I keep wishing I could just grab him out of the screen and hug him, no matter how much of a "doofus" (ya got that right, Mac Daddio) he's being.

Ed was hilarious. He's so honest when he's high, huh? He said everything exactly right about Mac, Bloo, and Wilt. LOL

Other than these things I didn't care for it much. Cheese annoyed the hell out of me and the alien plot was kinda stupid. But I still didn't hate it, although that could be because I'm just biased when it comes to Foster's, as a huge fan. ;)

TraverseTown 05-05-2007 07:17 AM

Love Jackie so much! Mme Foster gets angry over a sandwich!
