See, that was part of my problem with Surf's Up. It set itself up very nicely with the whole mockumentary angle, and then in the latter half of the film seemed to forget about this altogether. Characters starting revealing personal secrets and plot points which they would surely have been at less of a liberty to divulge if a camera crew had been there watching and filming the whole time, as the movie supposedly wanted us to believe. Whether these scenes were intended to be read as exclusive from the main "documentary" itself, the film failed to make clear. Either way, they were certainly a lot less fun than the earlier scenes, when the mockumentary vibe was at its most prominent.

According to an article from animationmagazine.net, even the people who made Surf's Up (SONY) didn't expect it to get a nomination.

We really didn?t run any campaign here whatsoever,? says Yair Landau, president of Sony Pictures Digital. ?It?s our second movie. We took a lot of risks and broke a lot of new ground in terms of the documentary-style narrative, recording all the actors together, the cinematic techniques and our visual effects work in creating waves as characters, and that people recognize that is wonderful.?

WTF is Persepolis & how did it beat The Simpsons Movie to the spot?

This is Persepolis: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808417/

I didn't care much for The Simpsons Movie myself, so I'm not disappointed that it didn't make it. It seemed more dependent upon the popularity of its franchise than anything else.

Hmmm..... Doesn't seem like my cup of tea.

And the winner...

Ratatouille!!!

:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

I'm so delighted. Also, the Coen Bros took home the award for Best Picture (and Best Directing). Best flippin' year at the Oscars ever. At least within my own lifetime. :D

I read that our rat movie won it's Oscar last night in the paper (Funny, I saw most of the awards ceremony and missed the announcement). I must say...Yay!!! (claps and cheers loudly)

Good job, good job. Congratuations to all those people who worked very hard on the film; you deserve the win! Whoo!!

In general, I enjoyed the ceremony: It was amusing and most of the awards went to very deserving people/films. There were some slow parts, but every Oscar awards is bound to have those.

I'm guessing Up will be nominated, and I hope Coraline will as well.
