My roomies and I watched Black Sheep last night. No, not that Chris Farley movie, this was a comedy horror. I highly recommend it, and I'm not usually big into these kinds of movies. :gooblab: Just be warned there was quite a lot of gore in it, but I guess that's expected in a horror movie.

28 Weeks Later
God this movie is incredible. I forgot how insanely gory and intense this movie is, I really feel it blew the original movie away. This movie really had better characters, a more coherent storyline and the "Crazies"/infected people never looked scarier. There are so many amazing dramatic emotions and feelings of dread in this film, it really does feel like a zombie movie with so much depression all around. Very few movies have sequels as excellent as this one so I'm very happy to see a quality sequel get made instead of it being another cheap unnecessary continuation. |
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Man do I love that musical. It's easily one of my favorite movies. |
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" followed by "Corpse Bride".
Two Tim Burton stop-motion movies in a row. These are seriously my favorite movies; I can't seem to get enough of them! Plus, they're so pretty looking :P |
The Visitors (real name: Besökarna)
A Swedish movie, one of the best scary movies I've ever seen. Lots of mystery and creepy athmosphere when a family moves into a new house in the country side and strange things are happening. The dad can't let it rest and calls a ghost investigator who agrees to come and have a looksee.. then EVERYTHING goes downhill Very humorous movie (mostly the dialogue), depicting not only freaky ghost experiences the dad has in the house, but problems with the mailman, problems with a business deal going wrong, having stubborn kids and trying to make the damn tapestry stick to the walls XD |
The Fly
No, not the ?Help meeee! Help meeee!? original from the late 50s (that infamous phrase does work it's way into this one, though in a somewhat different context), but rather the 1986 David Cronenberg remake starring Jeff Goldblum, who was clearly quite the handsome bugger back in the 80s (ha - bugger! Get it? Okay, I'm sorry, I know that's a terrible joke?). It's harrowing as hell to watch him get bogged down with all the nasty little details of gradually transforming into a human muscidae - it's a Cronenberg movie, so nauseating visuals are a standard part of the package, everything from dissolving body parts to a physically inversed baboon (presumably just a wad of animated minced meat, but it still made me wince...Videodrome wasn't that disgusting at all, with hindsight :wiltshock:); ordinarily a lot more gruesomeness than I'd be willing to tolerate, but it also had a distinctly human element throughout which made it very compelling and ultimately very effective - as sickened as you may be by Brundle's physical, and to some extent emotional, transformations you really feel for him and everything he's going through too. The ending felt fairly abrupt, but also very powerful. And the insect make-up holds up extremely well even today. |
Pet Cematery Two
Very creepy movie. I love Horror About to watch Halloween |
:-[The Devil Wears Prauda
It is definatly worth watching. synopsis, - Just out of school Journalist starts her career by hapenstancing an executive assistant position for a high end fashion Magazine Many of the deleted scenes on the DVD are from the begining of the film and are worth stoping the movie to watch, They give a much more satissfying introduction into the movie. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3D!
It's sooooo much better in 3D, you see alot more detail! But I felt a little sick when it panned quickly or characters has fast frigidity movement D= |
Brazil and Barton Fink
Two of the darkest comedies you'll ever see. Two movies where the heroes bring about their own downfall, whether by accident or simply by way of their own arrogance. Sam Lowry, the protagonist of Brazil, is your regular cog in the machine. And for the most part he likes it. He has dreams of something more, but not to the point where he would actually act on them. That is until the one day that he does. And by doing so he messes up his life and the lives of others just by being his normal self. He gets caught in a web he wasn't even aware of. And from then on it only gets worse. By the end he's dug himself in so deep that his ultimate fate seems like a happy ending compared to the alternative. All that aside Brazil is incredibly fun. Even if it is a bit too disturbing in its view of a bleak bureaucratic state in the midst of a "terrorist" uprising. Barton Fink is a frustrating character. He's the kind of guy you want to feel for, but the more you think about it the more you realize that he deserves a lot of what he gets. Barton is a so-called writer for the common man. The problem is he's so wrappped up in himself he doesn't listen. He doesn't care what they want, or what anyone else wants. He thinks he's above everyone and that the world has to listen to what he has to say. You start to understand that he's not a writer for the common man because he wants to be, he's only says that because he doesn't have the skill to be what most people would call a real writer. So instead he passes off his own experiences over and over again as if they're the voice of the common man, when in reality it's all he knows and he's unwilling to grow. So when he's finally told off, all though it's said in the harshest of ways you can't help but agree with what's being said. Barton Fink was one of those movies that was okay when I watched it, but after thinking about it for a day it was one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. The thing is it's such a painful experience in a way that I can't watch it again and again unlike the lighter dark comedy in Brazil. Anyway, these are two of Monk's recommendations. If you get a chance pick them up. |
Dead Silence
Transformers Saw Silence on demand and just got finished watching Transformers on DVD. God I FREAKING LOVE Transformers!!! This movie truly wowed me on almost every level and so many people doubted how the movie would turn out. Regardless of what anyone still says, I still say it was a phenomenal film. |

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the last movie I watched was Hairspray (the new musical adaptation). Very enjoyable, John Travolta completely stole the show, but there were a lot of wonderfully peppy performances therein. My favourite song was "Welcome to the 60s". ;D |
Watched Final Destination 1/2 yesterdays. Very original and well put together movies. I wonder if they made a 3

Just one word of advice: don't watch it before or after you go on a rollercoaster!

Thirteen Ghosts
I'm really surprised this movie didn't do better at the box office, i thought it was one of the better and clear cut ghost horror movies and it certainly kept things interesting. There was plenty of unique ghosts in this movie and some great performance pieces from Matthew Lillard. |
A Fish Called Wanda
Potentially the most hillarious-est movie ever. "The London Underground is not a political movement." |
Save The Green Planet!
Well, my cavalcade of dark comedies continues in what may be the darkest one yet. This little gem from South Korea is about a man named Lee Byeung-gu and his quest to save the world from evil aliens. At the beginning of the movie he kidnaps Kang Man-Shik, the CEO of a chemical company, believing that he will soon contact the Prince of an alien race to initate the destruction of mankind. Byeung-gu believes that Kang's true form is that of a freckled, large-earlobed humanoid capable of telepathy with his follicles. What follows is a great send-up of thrillers, sci-fis, crime dramas, and somehow predicting the torture porn craze 3 years early. In many ways the movie should not be funny. It is very brutal in more ways than one. Such as the pain inflicted upon Kang, and the revelation of what started Lee on his quest to save mankind. But somehow it all works rather well. Because despite some predictable twists and turns I still found myself surprised by most of what happened. Is Kang really an alien or is Lee just a very disturbed man? You'll have to find out that one for yourself. I must say this though. I was surprised by the ending. It's certainly something that most American films would never attempt. By the way keep your eyes peeled to sly references to 2001 and Misery among others. |
The Messengers
I watched it last night in the whole Halloween theme. And I survived! 8D Ok, yeah, of course I survived. Especially whenever my dad muted it and my sister started singing "Here Comes Santa Clause" whenever the real scary parts came. Ah, it's so fun watching horror movies with the family... |
"Gorgo" on the Space network. I thought it would just be another another monster movie but it actually proved to be pretty good. I find that the older monster movies just have a much darker and scarier feel to them than modern ones.
It's about a small fishing village that's being harassed by a Godzilla-like sea-monster. They employ the help of some treasure hunters who manage to capture the creature and they take it back to London. Bad idea. It turns out that the monster is merely the child of an even bigger creature. The rest of the movie plays out very similarly to the original Godzilla movie. The monster attacks the coast and works its way through London, destroying beloved landmark and army battalions along the way. What grabbed me about this movie was how well they captured the sense of terror and chaos that the monster ensued. People were trampling over one another and even jumping out of the third story windows of their homes in a vain attempt to escape. You don't see a lot of that in monster movies anymore, and I think it adds so much more to the realism of the monsters rampage. |
Transformers
Despite looking stupid, it's actually a good movie. I may pick it up on HD-DVD when I get the 360 add-on. (Not this year, since I'm getting the 360 for X-mas) |
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Starring Ralph the Wonder Llama. Møøse trained to mix concrete and sign complicated insurance forms by Jurgen Wigg. Large møøse on the left half side of the screen in the third scene from the end, given a thorough grounding in Latin, French and "O" Level Geography by Bo Benn. |
The Darjeeling Unlimited by Wes Anderson. Personally, I loved it though, like most of Anderson's work, it hardly appeals to everybody. Great film if you enjoy near pitch black humor.

X2: X-men United
I think this is probably one of the greatest comic book movies ever made. Bryan Singer did fantastic job improving from the first X-men movie, I had no idea he could churn out a film so rich, so well acted, and well made in general. I wished he would have stayed with Fox and made X-men 3 instead of Superman Returns. If X2 was this phenominal, who knows what he could have done with the 3rd film. |

Although, I too liked Superman Returns as well, Kevin Spacey did an awesome job portraying Lex Luthor, might I add. |
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Not only one of the few romantic comedies I can actually stomach, but one I can watch time and time again and thoroughly enjoy on every occasion (far more than can be said for Love Actually, which should be a testament to the largely degenerative and self-parodic route the British rom com took within the decade that followed). It's simply but cleverly structured, charming and very funny. Admittedly, there is something oddly phoney and unpleasant about Andie MacDowell's character which I can't really put into words - one is left wondering exactly what it is that Hugh Grant sees in her, but I guess that's his own business, and pretty much everyone else involved has a convincing and enjoyable onscreen chemistry. Special honours go to that bitter, senile old man who only shows up twice within the entire picture but walks away with the scene on both occasions. Worthy of his own spin-off movie, that chap, only I suspect that the actor who played him has long since passed on. |
The Grudge 2
Most people disliked this movie or felt weird about it. It certainly wasn't anywhere near as craptacular as The Ring 2, but I know a lot of people had mixed feelings towards this movie and originally, I did to. Perhaps its my inexplicable love for the Grudge film series, but I really felt this movie is a lot better (and a lot smarter) then most people give it credit for. It's not better then the original movie but I enjoyed the cast and it had some very creepy moments. I already heard a 3rd one is being made (thank GOD its not a direct-to-DVD movie) so I'm hopeful this 3rd one will provide some answers to the movie's long overdue unanswered questions. |
"Control". One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Sam Riley portrayed Ian Curtis of Joy Division well. And the style was brilliant. There was nothing I didn't love about this movie. I was sad when the end happened even though I knew it was coming. I can't say enough good stuff about it.

theres a Joy Division movie?

Unaccompanied Minors,
It was a nice feelgood comedy. Monty :-[ |
The Producers: The Movie Musical
So many great moments, it's a very funny movie. 'I was never a member of the Nazi party. I only followed orders. I had nothing to do with the war. I didn't even know there was a war on. We lived in ze back, right across from Switzerland. All we ever heard was yodelling. *yodels* WHO ARE YOU?!?' 8D |

"Springtime for Hitler" LOL |
Jeepers Creepers 2
Panic Room The Incredible strange creatures who stopped living and became Mixed-up Zombies (MST3000) And yes that is a REAL movie title! 8D |

Wait till you hear this one!
Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Zombified, Flesheating, Sub-Humanoid Living Dead - Part 4 (1993) The world's longest movie title! 8D |
The scariest part of that is where it says "Part Four", implying that there were three others. :P
Who comes up with these things? |

Then the people she scalds would become horribly deformed zombies that she locks up in a closet for some unknown reason. While at the SAME time an emotionless ugly guy with a weird nose is hypnotized into killing dancing strippers and he has these cocaine induced dreams and it ends up him being chased by the cops. The movie jumps around, its so incoherent and for lack of a better term, retarded. I mean even "The Creeping Terror" and "Robot Monster" which are considered to be some of the worst movies on the face of the planet at least had some coherence to them where as this movie is on an acid trip all its own. Which basically means it was prime material for the guys of Mystery Science Theater 3000. |
