I agree - so what is wrong with liking a character that is so simple (yet so complex), and cute?

I never found Frankie to be complex, as I have said before. I always found her to be basically two things: "Simple and sweet". Now that's not a negative thing to say someone isn't complex. To me, Frankie just seems like just by looking at her, you already know everything you need to know.

She doesn't hide things or lie to people (aside from her mental breakdown with Goofball), or tries to be someone or something she's not (aside from, again same episode). Frankie is who she is. She dresses very casually and still proves to be an affectionate, kind, and caring person.

She doesn't drudge for hours trying to look good for someone else, or pretend to project a constant sexy/slutty look like most women do to get attention. She is who she is and she acts how she acts. Look at her date with Dylan, she knew that working at Foster's with imaginary friends was kinda touchy.

She was worried about making a bad impression, yet she didn't try any false identites or lie about where she works just to look good in front of her date. She loves where she works and I think her admitting it and trying to talk about it with Dylan shows that even when she's nervous, she's still honest.

Howard 01-08-2007 10:21 AM

"I never found Frankie to be complex..."

I was speaking figuratively. Have you heard the saying "it is so simple - that it is hard." Sure Frankie is simple, but the way we analyze her, is where the complexity comes in. I do understand what you are saying.

Partymember 01-08-2007 11:50 AM

yeah, Frankie's character is perfect: non-materialistic, not worried about her looks all the time, showing real compassion, sympathetic, beautiful, and probably much more that i can't think of right now.

And jeez, when she went out with that @$%#! Dylan she was the one who was nervous!

Actually, I don't think she's perfect, which is why I like her so much.

Partymember 01-08-2007 12:28 PM

well, perfect in my view. She's what i'm looking for...surprisingly hard to find.

I think in a round about way, I was trying to say that. Boy, do I "editorialize" too much!8D

Medikor 01-08-2007 01:21 PM

I'd really like to see more of Frankies friend, Karen is it? I'm sure that we would learn alot more about Frankie through her.

Voxxyn 01-08-2007 02:28 PM

I think she's "perfect" in the sense that she has such strong appeal to us. To me, her flaws and shortcomings are part of that appeal, because they make her HUMAN instead of a cliched Mary Sue or "larger-than-life supermodel babe". That's part of her essence and wonderfulness.

You know what really gets me, is I have friends on other artist forums (that I am a member), and they all hound me about the "Good Wilt Hunting" scene where Douglas and Adam see a "busty supermodel" Frankie. They ask me: "what did you think of that?"
"Isn't that awesome?"
"Boy, wouldn't you want that?"

My response to them is I love Frankie for what she is, not what she can be. I was not really impressed with the "bimbo" Frankie. Frankie's imperfections are what attracted me to her in the first place.

Although I haven't seen 'Good Wilt Hunting', I know what you mean. The people that like her for her 'bimbo' image (like the people you mentioned, duck2k) should be ashamed of themselves. They obviously don't see the real side of Frankie, like us!

Mr. Marshmallow 01-08-2007 09:58 PM

Actually I didn't take that busy bimbo image in that kind of light for Frankie, because I thought it was down right stupid and ugly. Not because of my Frankie fandom, but honestly, it just looked like some weird, warped piece of crap.

I didn't get the point of it because if THAT is what is considered to be attractive in that world (or to those guys) then I'd probably be gouging my own eyes out right about now. And like everyone has said, Frankie's gorgeous just the way she is.

Although it wouldn't hurt to see her in a bathing suit more often ;) heh, playfulness.

Whew!

After 4 days I've finally got to the end of this thread. Your love for Frankie is inspiring, and also made me realize how much I care for that redhead. You guys have helped me feel not so weird about having a major crush on a cartoon character, and for that I must give thanks.

on a related note i just bought "Iron Flowers" and "Graceful Ghost" from Amazon, they're Grey DeLisle records. Gothic country stuff, sounded promising to me. I'll let you know if they're good when i get them.

I'm thinking of getting those but I don't know if Gothic country is my thing. Her music sounded very pretty from the samples I heard on her site, though.
I just rewatched Squeeze the Day the other day on teletoon (they have been playing that one alot) and Frankie looks so nice when she's wearing her sweater over her swimsuit. :D

Partymember 01-10-2007 11:24 AM

well....i figure i liked the Grateful Dead forays into country (Dire Wolf rocks more than words can express) so why not listen to evil country by someone else?

Close to one week to go for me. As much as I'm waiting for Frankie in her swimsuit, I also want to see Bloo in this episode, mainly because Keith Ferguson (the voice of Bloo) is nominated an Annie award for this episode! :bloogrin

Crash-N-Cortex 01-10-2007 09:40 PM

Frankie is probably the reason I watch this show. I hope to see more of Frankie in season five and I hope that she'll be put to better use. I respect any Frankie fan like I respect my family and friends.

(BTW: You do realize that this thread has 99 pages now, do you?)

I just thought of one,cassini!

Has anyone gone to that fosters blogspot and looked at her early designs?

Very bizzare designs(except for the final one,of course)

Funny you should mention that - I have that as my wallpaper on my home computer (at work now). Some of those early designs are really bizarre; they make her out to look like a militant, instead of the compassionate caregiver that she is (the last two final designs)

NOTE: HERE IS PAGE 100!

Cassini90125 01-11-2007 01:22 PM

I saw them; I definitely liked the final design best! I thought she looked kind of mean and/or angry in a lot of the early sketches, although I did like the one of her in pants. The blonde version looked just plain malicious. One change I especially liked is that they ended up giving her larger eyes than in the earlier versions, which I think looks really good on her. And, of course, there's the smile, too. She wouldn't be the Frankie I love without those eyes and that smile.

For those who missed it, here's the Fosters Official Blog.

Medikor 01-11-2007 01:50 PM

You know, the other day I was thinking and a disturbing thought came into my head. If something awful were to happen to Grey Delisle (loss of voice, vegatative state or even death) what would happen to Frankie?
First off I know that Greys family would be more important to worry about but how would the writters handle such a tragidy? Would they do what happend with Phill Hartman in Simpsons and completly phase her out of the show or would they leave her as a background character?
Grey Delisle can never be replaced and I don't think anyone could possibly carry on the role of Frankie that she made us all fall in love with but I could see Terra Strong trying to take up the reigns. Grey and Terra are great friends and they can often be difficult to tell apart (I was sure that Terra Stong was the one who voiced Mandy before I learned it was Grey) so I guess what I'm trying to ask is: How would you feel about Frankie if Grey had to be (God forbid) replaced for whatever reason? Would you try to settle into the new voice or would you feel it would be a drastic change? It's very hard to say because Grey did so much to make Frankie who she is and I can't imagine anyone else being able to capture the spirit of the lady we all love.
I know that this is a kind of dark thing to talk about but I figured that we really needed something deep to talk about. If you all dissagree then please say so and this post will promptly be deleted.

Cassini90125 01-11-2007 02:03 PM

No deletion, it's a valid question. My guess is that they'd have Tara Strong take over the role while the CN staff searched for a more permanent replacement, if "replace" is even an appropriate word here. Ms. Delisle is a matchless voice talent; with the possible exception of the late Mary Kay Bergman, may she find the peace that eluded her in life, she was the best of the many voices who played Daphne on Scooby-Doo. Finding someone to take her place would be a difficult task at best.

Voxxyn 01-11-2007 02:12 PM

I'd be open and confident that Tara Strong would do her very best as Frankie and her many other roles.

That's all I'm saying about this now. I completely understand your concern--but since this thread is about to near a thousand posts, I'd prefer if we talked about more positive things for now.

I hope Season 5 will have many great Frankie moments like Season 4, AND I also hope that the writers learned their lesson from IHFUMEUP, and that we'll instead get something wonderful like FMD and SAP.

Was she the one who was supposed to play Timmy Turner in Fairly Odd Parants but was replaced by Terra Strong? Anyway, I can't really see them wanting to just drop Frankie if anything happend but I also can't see Frankie's voice being any differant.
And it's not just the voice, like I said, Frankie is Grey's character. She helped define her with her voice and spirit as much as the writers define her through fleshing out her character in the storys. Frankie's loveing and caring voice is one of my favorite things about her. I always feel happier when I hear her talk.:D
SAP? Sorry Vox but I can't remember for the life of me what episode that stands for. But I'm sure that many lessans have been learned over Imposters and I'm sure that we'll get some GREAT Frankie episodes as a result. :D

I think I would pick Tara Strong (if that should happen). She voices Terrence, but also has the voices of Toot Braunstein, and Princess Clara on "Drawn Together." But Tara would be one of my first choices.:bloogrin

Mr. Marshmallow 01-11-2007 02:24 PM

Tara Strong gets around alot, she ends up voicing everyone sooner or later. I think she would make a good Frankie but I would personally (and this is if I was in charge of voice casting) wait to see if I can find an accurate replacement as I can before saying Strong automatically.

Frankie's a great character and I know they'd keep her alive even if her voice actor wasn't, or at least i hope they would. Sometimes shows can't though. I remember in Sea lab 2021, Captain Murphy's voice actor died and they had to write him out of the show.
