Ghost Rider and Tombstone

I can sum up the first movie very easily, don't. Really just don't. Unless you really want to pass the time, or for some reason all you can get is Vh1 and pledge dries, there is absolutely no reason to watch the movie.

It's bad not because it botched many of the most basic aspects of the comic, no it failed because it tried to hard to shock and scare and didn't have what it took to pull it off. And the worst part, you could see all the parts of a good movie trying to break out of a bad one.

Peter Fonda and Sam Elliott don't just phone in their performances they seem bored to even be in the film. While Nic Cage knew that he was acting with a bad script and a mediocre director he just wanted to play one of his childhood heroes and it works to some degree.

The story is by the numbers, the villains not the least bit threatening and the score might as well have been from television. Not to mention that the loose ends were numerous for a stand-alone film.

Like Transformers, this movie had all the stuff to make it great but went oh so wrong. Avoid if possible.

Tombstone on the other hand is a great Western and one of the best films of the last decade. An all-star cast headed by Kurt Russell convince you that you're actually watching the Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday as they wage their against the ruthless Cowboys.

Val Kilmer steals the show in this one. He oozes charm as Doc Holliday, which is really something because Holliday is a hair's breadth away from being as slimy as any of the antagonists in the flick. In fact he actually has a counterpart in the Cowboys by the name of Johnny Ringo played by Michael Biehn. I could've easily watched a movie about these two alone. Such similar men probably could've been friends under different circumstances.

I could go on practically all day about Tombstone, but you really should just watch it. It's another Monk recommendation and it's top-notch too.

I guess Ghost Rider deserves the title "Marvel's Cat-Woman" that I've been hearing after all? 8D

AerostarMonk 09-07-2007 11:53 AM

I can't say that. There is still one Marvel movie that I haven't seen. And this is post turn of the century Marvel. None of that Roger Corman's Fantastic Four, or Dolph Lundgren's Punisher here. No, I still haven't seen Elektra, which I hear is Marvel's Catwoman. But I also hear that at least that one is forgettable, and any movie that is forgettable is better than any movie that sticks with you because of its flaws.

Too true, my friend. Too true.

Shoot Em Up

I wasn't sure what to expect of this movie, be it a brilliant realistic action thriller or a over the top, guns a blazing action thriller. In sense I got a little of both. The movie is really easy to enjoy if you simply remember it's an action movie. The action scenes are incredible, funny, and a bit unrealistic.

But I honestly didn't expect a superb storyline from this movie or 100% accurate gun fights, I came to be entertained and that's exactly what this movie did. It's a well cast, well acted action movie that keeps you watching. The story isn't super thin and it actually has a little more thought put into it then your average action flick.

It's a fun, well crafted and created movie that is certainly worth your movie ticket price. This is an easy movie to enjoy and an easy movie to sit down and watch without having to put too much thought into. That's not a bad thing though, sometimes (like in this movie's case) all you want to do is turn your brain off and enjoy the ride.

Awesome! I'd watch it again!

The Indy movies are Spielberg's best. Their just perfect.

Hairspray

Who would have ever thought that a John Waters comedy about intergration in Baltimore would be such a feel-good film? Ricki Lake succeeds in making big beautiful, and a fun time is had by all. Well except for Sonny Bono and his family. Another recommended film.

who would've ever thought there would be a PG-rated John Waters movie? :P

What I wanna know is why John Travolta's eyes are so incredibly close together. They weren't like that in Grease!

Men in Black

One Missed Call 2

It's been a while since I saw MIB, I thought I knew everything about this movie but man did I forget a lot of things. Got refreshed on a lot of the things and lines I missed before.

I saw the original (Japanese) first One Missed Call movie 2 nights ago and I got to say it was pretty damn amazing. I avoid watching subtitled movies if I can help it but this was a kick ass movie, VERY creepy and very well made.....but this sequel seriously lacked. It was a confusing, misleading, dragged out mess.

Zeitgheist 09-11-2007 01:06 AM

Good Wilt Hunting

Because it was on tv just now :D but the Swedish dub, however, it's one of the better dubs, so I didn't mind. I have only seen it in English before (I think). I really love the backgrounds of the whole movie, especially in the scene where Wilt mows all the lawns (for some odd reason)

Other than that I watched Meet The Robinsons another ten times at least XD

jekylljuice 09-11-2007 12:49 PM

Howl's Moving Castle

Call me crazy, but I'm actually starting to prefer this Miyazaki picture to Spirited Away (which is still a wonderful movie). As with Spirited Away, people often dismiss the narrative as confusing, but it becomes more and more transparent with repeated viewings. The animation is beautiful, the storyline is charming and neatly understated, and I find myself being increasingly enchanted by the story elements charting Sophie's growing sense of respect and affection for all those supporting characters, as well as the focal point of her relationship with Howl.

My only complaint would be directed at that plot detail toward the end which is tied up rather sloppily, at least in the English dub. I guess I need to watch it with it's original Japanese soundtrack some time soon, to see how it compares.

The Brave One

Man vigilante movies must be hot this year, this was a great movie. Very emotional and very realistically done. They really nailed the "feelings" of what would happen to you if your life ended up like hers (Jodie Foster's).

I always find it funny when I go to see vigilante movies that despite how serious the issue of taking lives is, there's always at least a few people who CLAP when the main character kills off the bad guys. I find that to be the strangest thing.

Anyways, great movie, really top notch stuff and nice to see Foster doing some kick ass work again.

Crash Test

It was so BAD I turned it off. It was listed as an indi film but really it is more of a cheep cam corder from some kids. I have seen plenty of student films that were much better then this. (sorry for anyone that liked this film, but if anyone did, please tell me why????)

Mystery Men

8 years later and this movie still rules.

Finding Nemo

A friend of mine and I are arguing over wich Pixar movie is the best. I say The Incredibles and I actually rank that movie as one of my top 5 movies of all time. My friend says Finding Nemo. So, I rewatched Finding Nemo last night only to come to the conclusion that... I still don't think it's THAT great. Maybe it's because I'm heartless and cold and the movie is supposed to be heartwarming? D: I don't know. I think I'm just an action whore, so The Incredibles appeals to me a lot more

indeed!

AerostarMonk 09-16-2007 09:21 AM

The ending of the movie is quite surprising even if you already know. Many people already cobble together an entire movie in their head before seeing it, and are astounded by the actual result. The fact that the reveal is actually the least interesting thing about the entire picture will always amaze me.

Zeitgheist 09-16-2007 11:30 AM

The Spongebob Movie

This movie just never stops being funny. Every single scene has me in stitches, and it really helps that the animators didn't up the quality of the animation by adding soft shadows (like the Rugrats or the Hey Arnold movie), but by ACTUALLY animating it nicely. It's so quirky it's close to a visual orgasm (at least to us fans)

I was never the fan of roadtrip movies, but the David Hasslehoff scene and the spectacular Goofy Goober Rock ending just makes up for that tenfold! I don't know how many times I've seen this movie, but I never seem to get tired of it

Partymember 09-16-2007 11:51 AM

yes, the rock scene where Spongebob turns into a rock-Wizard was so reminiscent of "Tommy" that i was dying of laughter. 8D

AerostarMonk 09-17-2007 02:20 PM

The Fountain

Great acting, cinematography and production design. However I won't be the first one to say that this movie confused me. I shall see it again in the near future. I think I'll have a better view on things then.

Mr. Marshmallow 09-17-2007 02:34 PM

Tommy Boy

God I miss Chris Farley, he was such a genius comedic actor. His methods were simple and didn't require much "thought" but he knew how to make people laugh and he was such a riot when he was beside David Spade, this is my favorite movie of his.

RocketBabyDoll 09-18-2007 02:03 AM

28 Weeks Later

I liked it, but I think I prefer the first one. The infected father was great though. Took me ages to notice he was Begbie from Trainspotting.

Ccook50 09-18-2007 12:14 PM

My nephew got me to watch Alpha Dog on DVD with him. Interesting but I could embrace it better if they hadn't dropped the "F" bomb every second.

Medikor 09-18-2007 12:22 PM

I caught the second half of Flushed Away yesterday. It was a lot better than I thought and I'm going to have to see it from the beginning now. 8D

The Breakfast Club

I've always liked this movie. It's one of my favourites. A lot of swearing though.

Edit: Woot! I started the 100th page! I feel so special now! 8D

I would agree, it was better than it looked. I watched it twice when I rented it.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

I caught it on TNT, censored but there wasn't much to censor in this movie surprisingly outside of swearing. The first one is easily better than this movie in every way. Acting, music, and of course, camera wise.

This movie had some stupid ass blurry camera segment every time we saw the zombies coming. I think they crapped up Alice's character by turning her into a Supergirl rip off, but Nemesis kicked ass and it was just a fun action zombie romp to kill some time.

Zeitgheist 09-21-2007 02:22 AM

Sword in The Stone

My mom and Bilbo (her boyfriend) wanted to watch it last night, so we watched on DVD. Damn that scene with the squirrels :[ I hate it when Arthur breaks the squirrel girl's heart </3 It's so damn sad. But it's a nice movie, I like Madame Mim :bloosmirk:

Carlaz 09-21-2007 06:34 AM

I just watched "Anna Karenina" on DVD.

Greta Garbo was wonderful in the title role.

I liked both of them,
and saw both of them last night,
asside from the TNT presentation of RE2
The first was ended on USA network as that one began.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Surprisingly entertaining. Saw it with a few friends. Not stellar, but not a total waste of seven bucks, and good for filler conversation afterwards.

However, we all agreed that we would've been better off if we had just went to see Eastern Promises. Cronenberg films about the Russian Mafia trump zombie sequels anyday. Well, almost any day.

Mr. Marshmallow 09-22-2007 08:31 PM

Spawn

A comic book movie that really deserved another installment. A lot of people gave this movie a bad rap, but i really enjoyed it and have to say that I haven't seen such a marvelous villain performance (John Leguizamo as Clown) since Jack Nicholson cast as The Joker in the first Batman movie.

Granted they went a little overboard with the special effects, and some looked crappy as hell. But still, this movie had a lot of story going for it and I think it could have easily made a sequel that would have kept it into movie franchise popularity status.

- "Reefer Madness: The Musical!" (5/5)
One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long, long time. This should have premiered on theaters, darnit.

jekylljuice 09-23-2007 10:35 AM

The Thing (John Carpenter version)

Probably not the best choice of film to be watching when you?re all alone on an ill-lit evening, but I had a good time nonetheless. Hard to believe that this was so reviled upon its initial release in the early 80s, because it is, quite frankly, my idea of the perfect horror film. There are a handful of pretty gruesome and ugly moments therein, but they?re few and far between, with much of the terror being milked from sheer anticipation. The story is involving enough to be genuinely scary, but it?s also a lot of fun, the ending is interesting and nicely ambiguous, and those tangible Thing puppets, though fairly obvious, could still take on most CGI monsters any day.

Mr. Marshmallow 09-23-2007 09:13 PM

Resident Evil: Extinction

A hell of a lot better then I was expecting. I had all but given up on any hope of this film series surprising me but it proved me wrong, there was some really good stuff in here. Awesome action scenes and some REAL violence for a change.

Alice no longer shoved her "super woman" macho attitude down our throats like she did the last film, and aside from the fact they totally left out explaining what happened to the little girl and Jill Valentine from movie 2, this was a great film.

The birds was probably the best sequence they've ever created in all 3 films, along with the laser hallway sequence from the first movie (which they revisited here and LOVED it).

Resurrection of The Little Match Girl

Korean HEAVILY Matrix inspired science fiction movie about a guy named Ju who buys a lighter from a program called The Little Match Girl and then enters a virtual reality world where he has to win the heart of The Little Match Girl to be able to win. Very... funny and random movie. The most important item in the movie is a mackerel, for instance XD

From your description it dowes not sound like the Match Girl dies like the story (Hans Christian Andersen).
