Charlie's Angels, the "new" one from, when was it? 2000, I think. I just love the part at the beginning when the girls are at a party and some guy is about to ask Lucy something, and she doesn't even let him finish. She just keeps saying "No... Nah..! NO!" And a moment later he aproaches someone else and just asks what time it is. LOL!

Partymember 07-07-2007 11:33 AM

i saw Ratatouille today and it was very good. Not mind-bending, but very good nontheless.

kageri 07-07-2007 02:46 PM

I saw Ratatouille today and it was horrible. Just kidding, it was awesome. I don't know what it is about Pixar, but seeing their movies leaves you with this cinematically-induced high that lingers for a long while afterward. They just make you feel happy. You can't see that amazing, refreshingly organic animation and not feel good about yourself and the world. And you can't look at Linguini's unfortunately arranged facial features and not feel even better about yourself, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

Also, I used to have pet rats so the movie was especially meaningful to me. I mean they weren't cartoon rats and they didn't have the voice of the creepy nerd from "The King of Queens" but they were still rats, so it touched that part of me.

Transformers, this movie is definitely less than meets the eye. While visually stunning, and Shia LaBeouf shows real promise, the story lacks any real weight, both factions of robots were marginalized, and all the money shots were in the trailers.

I hate to do this, because I always recognize the hard work and talent that goes into a movie, but I'm giving this thumbs down. Though fun, I can't recommend this movie to anyone. However, I do plan to review this movie again at a later date when it hits the cheap theatres. I'm reminded that I didn't love Batman Begins until the second go round. But I think my current rating will still stand.

You're not alone in your opinion. Of course I haven't seen it and don't plan to so I can't judge, but still.

Has anyone else seen those promotional posters for the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie and do any of those people find them deeply disturbing? I don't get Hollywood's perverse fascination with taking the public's childhoods, dragging them into a dark alley, and bludgeoning them to death. I also don't get why the chipmunks are so gangsta.

Yes very disturbing, and why does Jason Lee want to throw away all the good will he's built up with me, thanks in part to his work in My Name is Earl and The Incredibles, by starring in these childhood crushing films like the example above and the upcoming live action Underdog film?

The sad fact is money is the whole issue. Jason Lee as great a guy he is, still wants to make a living and will agree to work on projects even if he doesn't know they will ultimately end up as turds in the long run. Chipmunks like Garfield is simply a means to make more cash by using a familiar franchise.

Not all shows get the kick ass treatment Transformers did, and I'm happy with its progress and aside from a relatively small sized portion of people I've spoken to/read about, everyone else agrees it ruled. Chipmunks will probably suck even though I haven't seen anything about it, Underdog WILL suck.

That I assure you, the fact the dog looks nothing like the toon is the first and last nail into this movie's coffin. Bay took his time to try and tried to please the insufferable and uncompromising world of fans with Transformers, where as Chipmunks and Underdog are simply using them as dollar bill symbols.

They don't recognize the childhood value and attachment people held with those shows. Even not being a big Transformers fan, I know enough to know that Bay did a great job tying the history in. I also hope people follow Bay's advice and learn fast that it is IMPOSSIBLE to please fans 100 percent.

It just cannot be done and it's foolish to try because you cannot please everyone, no matter how good your movie is.

Owennoreen 07-08-2007 04:49 AM

Woop Well I just saw Bridge to Terabithia, It was a good movie but it was a little sad
Spoiler Below
This boy named Jess made a new friend called Lezlie and they found a new world called Terabithia and one day when Lezlie was going to terabithia she was riding on this swing and it snapped and she fell and drowned :( it was a little sad!

Mr. Marshmallow 07-08-2007 11:21 PM

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

I thought this was a very cool horror/drama movie. I honestly felt this was the most realistic portrayal of an exorcism as you can get, this all felt very real and very creepy. Plus it mixed in some court room drama and being a Law and Order buff, it was fun to see how the world of spirits would mix into there.

Most people I talk to disliked this movie and while it obviously wasn't any where near as scary as the Exorcist original movie we all know, I still found this to be a very cool and very "educational" experience when it comes to exorcisms.

EDIT

Btw Owen, you might want to put spoiler tags around stuff that might be considered SPOILING for movies like that. I never really intended to see Terabithia but still.

Lynnie 07-08-2007 11:28 PM

Braveheart

Again, I like historical films. And this is probably one of my favorites, despite all the gruesome battle scenes. I always enjoy it.

jekylljuice 07-09-2007 05:28 AM

Airplane!

I'll be flying myself in exactly two weeks today, and I thought that watching this film would help to put me in the right spirit.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that the part that nearly kills me every time isn't the "stop calling me Shirley" banter or even Lloyd Bridge's increasingly drastic addictions, but that hapless mechanic who struggles with the aircraft's "bonnet" at the start 8D. And that girl scout fight is the stuff of legends. I'm not so sure about Otto the auto-pilot, though...I find him a tad creepy.

I really wish I knew how to speak Jive - it's just about the coolest language devised by humankind. :gooblab:

Apocalypto

bloodiest, nastiest movie i've ever seen. It was awesome!

Mel Gibson is God

jekylljuice 07-10-2007 04:45 AM

Junebug

A superb family drama, neatly understated and implicitly very powerful. And it contains a nice little cameo appearence from a very good-looking meerkat. :berry:

GrimTheLost 07-10-2007 11:25 PM

I just got back from the new Harry Potter movie. I love how this new director did it. It was the best one yet. I can't wait to see it again. :D

Imaginary Light 07-11-2007 01:12 PM

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. In IMAX 3D. Oh. Em. Gee. I nearly died. This movie seriously owns me:P Go see it. I command you.

Lynnie 07-11-2007 03:42 PM

The Disney Channel orriginal movie The Thirteenth Year

I've seen it before, and frankly, it isn't really that great. It's more amusing than anything else. It's one of Disney's "Tweeny" movies, and the acting left much to be desired. But it's kind of a cool story. It's about a boy who at the age of 13 is going through "puberty", but he's going through changes that are, shall we say, different, from everyone else. He soon realizes his birth parents were mer-people, and he's turning into one, too. I'm sure it's one of those book-made-movie movies, in which I'm sure the book is much better. And as many of you have already found out, I've had an interest in mermaids since childhood, so I couldn't help but be lurred in. :P

Partymember 07-11-2007 09:05 PM

I just finished watching Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and Elvira's Haunted Hills...how anyone can live without having watched these flicks is beyond me.

before that i saw Army of Darkness for the umpteenth billion time. I love Bruce Campbell 8D

Mr. Marshmallow 07-11-2007 11:17 PM

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I had my doubts but they were nearly all blown away. Talk about DARK, man this movie has some dark stuff here. Seriously black and creepy stuff. There was some impressive acting here and some really intense scenes in here.

That "magic fight" with Dumbledore (you know what I mean) was unbelievable, this was so much more cooler then i thought. My only complaint is I felt the story felt a bit rushed at times, like things moved too quickly through pacing.

Actually I did. I've heard about this movie remake for a long time and no progress was ever achieved until the original Get Smart actor died recently. That's when it kicked into high gear and used Steve Carrell's success to make it even more "big top".

I first didn't think I'd care for this movie. I never had seen or heard of the series prior, and I thought it would be like cheesy, old kiddie humor or cheap slapstick. But the trailer made it look very clever, very funny and in fact, I am actually looking froward to seeing it.

emperor26 07-12-2007 08:40 PM

At the moment, I have already finish watching Transformers (which was a week ago), and currently, I'm planning to see "The Simpsons Movie" once it comes out.

great movie, i am in awe of it. not much else to say

Ccook50 07-13-2007 04:39 AM

Haven't seen Transformers but Kevin saw it earlier this week. He said he lost brain cells watching it.

The contemporizing of Underdog is presumably conventional wisdom of introducing the character to a new generation of movie goers in spite of the fact that he's a TV character created back in 1964. Virtually nobody born from 1987 on knows who Underdog is, so they'll be approaching this film with the presumption that this is a Disney original. There will be a screen credit (I'm sure) that will say "based on the character created by Chet Stovers and Buck Biggers" but who reads those credits today?

Among the liberties taken: this Underdog doesn't talk in rhyme (there but for the grace of Wally Cox go I). If he has a secret identity, it certainly isn't Shoeshine Boy. In a sure PC move, no Underdog super energy pill. No Sweet Polly Purebred. None of the villains like Simon Barsinister or Riff Raff. And even if it did have all those, the movie would still be a dud because on average, live versions of cartoon shows have had a miserable track record. It cannot be done successfully because it's stretching out formula and convention from thirty to ninety minutes. But as with such cut-to-the-quick Disney products, it will attract the most undiscriminating movie goers and launch at least one direct-to-DVD sequel.

Mr. Marshmallow 07-13-2007 08:34 AM

I too believe the movie is a god awful, image destroying piece of cinematic crap however I have to say Ccook that you are wrong on some of your points. The commercials and ads DO reveal some of those characters you mentioned.

Polly Purebred IS in it, I think Riff Raff is also, and I know for a FACT Simon Barsinister is in it and I think he actually looked kind of cool looking. I do know of Underdog and the basics of him but I'm no expert.

Either way, I have no intention of seeing this movie and I know that whether your a Underdog fan or not, you can tell this is not him at all. It would have been smarter if they animated the dog into his cartoon yellow appearance.

While it still would probably be put in the same crappy direction it's being put in now, I think at least keeping his appearance then a CGI beagle with a cape would have looked much better and been less degrading for the character.

AerostarMonk 07-13-2007 10:31 AM

Peter Dinklage is playing Simon, and if anyone is really going to sell their character it's him. He looks the part in the commercial and anyone who has seen his work knows he's a superb actor.

I think the reason this seems like such a bad translation is because much of the charm from the original just doesn't seem to fit into a modern live-action "blockbuster." The rhyme, the anthropomorphized animals, the very cartoony schemes. But I'll have to wait to see this one before I can really call it out on any of these things. For all we know this could be surprisingly good. And so far Disney didn't try to bury it, even after that brush with controversy over the tagline.

Ccook50 07-13-2007 12:00 PM

I acquiese, since I hadn't seen the trailer or any sneak peek clips. Still, you couldn't pay me enough to appear as a villain in a live action movie like this and utter lines like "Simon says, (insert threatening command here)."

AerostarMonk 07-13-2007 01:38 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if he actually said it. Peter Dinklage is not above having fun at his expense. Being a little person in Hollywood almost seems to require one to do so.

taranchula 07-13-2007 05:05 PM

That 1980's coming of age story that captivated the hearts and minds of millions of movie goers the world over, and shows everyone how to overcome adversity with the power of a crane (kick) of course I am talking about The Karate Kid.

Life force

and

Charlie and the chocolate factory

I love Depp, I love Burton, and I REALLY love Elfman so it was no shock I'd love this movie. As much as I enjoy growing up with the original Wonka story, there's just too much amazing material in this movie not to like it as much as I did.

The Life force movie was freaking WEIRD! It was a science fiction, space ship, alien, sexual vampire, zombie future type movie. It was one of the warpest movies I've ever seen, and I've seen some down right nutty movies.

I have not seen lifeforce in like 15 years, if I remember correctly it was not too bad. It had a bit of suspence, and noone cound see the ending ahead of time.

Well I managed to catch the late showing of the Transformers movie last night. It was better then I thought it would be but still could have been much better. But it also could have been much, much worse.
The film had its share of plot holes and the action was tough to follow at times, but I chock some of that up to sitting in the front row. But it was fast paced and fun to say the least. I'll give it a three outta five stars.
:D

Edward Scissorhands

Tim Burton's a genius, I LOVE LOVE LOVE his work. This really was a genius story, totally original and features the great Danny Elfman doing a kick ass score as usual. It's been so long since I'd seen this movie.

Medikor 07-15-2007 04:38 PM

I don't think I've ever seen Edward Scissorhands. I'm pretty sure I tried watching it as a kid but it was too scary for me.8D
