It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

koosie 12-24-2008 02:52 PM

Well here it is:

Merry Christmas!

Everybody's having fun (?)

Look!
To the future.

It's only just begun!:slybendy:

jekylljuice 12-24-2008 03:09 PM

Actually, it is Christmas right now, in the UK. I once recall reading about this old superstition which dictates that for the very first minute of the 25th December, animals are granted the power of human speech (don't know exactly where it originates, but it does have something to do with their involvement in the nativity story, I believe)...if it has any truth to it at all, then both my cats just wasted that opportunity for some decent conversation by sleeping right through it. Just as well, I guess - it's supposed to be extremely unlucky for any human to overhear them. Ha ha, well that's convenient.

I doubt I'll be able to get online much today, so have a good one, everyone! :D

You know I did hear someone talking outside just after midnight. Might have been the cats or the Foxes. I couldn't make out what they were saying but shortly afterwards a car started up and I'm guessing that's not covered by the superstition.

Enjoy yourself JJ! Hope you get some nice Pressies. Hope somebody got you DVD you wanted anyway.

Ah, that would be Wall-E. Yes, I certainly hope so! :nodyes:

Thanks Koosie, I hope you'll also have a great time and that you're able to pick up some really nice stuff tomorrow too. :)

Cat 1: "If she feeds me that stupid canned food again, I swear I'll..."

Cat 2: "I know! And why does she keep shutting the bathroom door when she's in there? I want to stare and make vaguely creepy meow noises!"

Cat 1: "Well, if I were the Owner, I'd... aw crap, minute's up."

Dog: "I LIKE CHOCOLATE MILK!"

some guy you dont know 12-24-2008 06:05 PM

wasnt there a movie about that? I think it had to do with a cow and a deaf kid. and randy travis. it was pretty good, in my opinion.

Anyhow, merry christmas people. I went to my grandma's today. Everyone was eating, but I didnt eat much. Mostly because I'll just eat way too much tomorrow.

Sparky 12-24-2008 06:21 PM

It was called Annabelle's Wish.

Anyways we're actually postponing Christmas a day because Dad decided to spend it with people he just met instead of us, and then come here the next day. :jk: So we'll just hang around and/or go out to eat maybe. Whatever.

Wait until you guys see what I got Kiwi. It's Foster's-related. I hope she likes it, but she probably won't, lol. 8D

Ridureyu 12-24-2008 06:37 PM

Yay! So, I heard the lamest Multi-Denominational Seasonal Wish yet!

See, I have no problem with "Happy Holidays," because there are a lot of holidays and people get strangely worked up if you name the wrong one. I personally try to tailor it - "Merry Christmas" is usually safe, but there are some people for whom "Happy Hannukah" is really obvious, and a good number of "Happy Holidayses", too. But now, today, I have heard the most neutral, essentially wussy version ever:

"Happy happy!"

Lynnie 12-24-2008 08:00 PM

Heh, add "Joy Joy" to that, and it could be even more fitting. But, that phrase is already taken by something entirely different. Drat! Oh well. :P

I wasn't sure if I'd be able to come on line tonight, but here I am. It's just about to be officially Christmas day on the East coast. So I hope everyone is having/had a great Christmas Eve.

I'm watching White Christmas, as is the Christmas Eve tradition of my family, and has been for years. Also eating junk food. Yum, yum, yum.

kageri 12-24-2008 09:20 PM

Yaaay Merry Christmas! I hope everyone is taking this opportunity to gorge on particular holiday eatings such as Ghirardelli peppermint bark and peppermint ice cream, which is so delicious that the fact that it looks exactly like Pepto-Bismol doesn't even bother me.

Let us all make the most of the day it is socially acceptable to chop down a tree and bring it indoors. Hope all of y'alls don't get coal or dorky pajamas. :Db

I wish it wasn't already Christmas and I had known about "Happy happy!" weeks ago, sob.

Sparky those cookies look delicious.

One Radical Dude 12-24-2008 10:15 PM

Merry Christmas, Never Forgotten! I wish all of you folks well this season, and may everyone have a great 2009. :cmastree:

WiltsAKGirl17 12-24-2008 10:21 PM

Gaaaahh, it's still Christmas Eve where I live! Anyway, Merry Christmas guys! Hope your Christmases are all 31 flavors of awesome.

CrazyPhil 12-25-2008 01:33 AM

Well, it's been officially Christmas here for a few hours now, and we've already opened our presents since it's out tradition to open them after midnight on Christmas Eve. Anyway, I got some stuff I wanted along with something I didn't expect (my aunt's good at that) and I also got my parents some things that they wanted and it was overall a nice and fulfilling experience like every year.

Only problem, WE DIDN'T GET ANY SNOW! In fact, we haven't got any snow yet this year at all. *sigh* We haven't had a White Christmas in years and this is unfortunately another disappointing year in that respect.

But that's nothing to get too depressed about. Anyway, I'm still enjoying the day so far and I want to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas!

taranchula 12-25-2008 06:25 AM

Merry Christmas!
Joyeux Noël!
Feliz Navidad!
Happy Holidays!

I got two pairs of pjs, but thankfully, they're not dorky at all. They'll both be very warm and cozy, actually, I love them. :)

It's over for most everyone now, so I hope with all my heart that everyone had a great holiday. :cmastree: :snowman:

bloonuggets 12-26-2008 03:30 AM

I hope you had a great holiday. I know we did.

scary_dream 12-26-2008 08:12 PM

So jealous of you all. My Christmas hasn't happened yet! Gotta wait until Monday when my sister gets back from Canada, THEN we open gifts.

OHHHHH the agony of waiting!

some guy you dont know 12-26-2008 08:53 PM

All I really got was Guitar hero: world tour, The dark knight on DVD, and some little toys. Never get too old for toys.

Oh, and some gift cards. None I really could find use for, though.

Lynnie 12-26-2008 08:54 PM

Well, it's all over for another year. Kind of sad, but kind of relieving in a way too. I won't be dreading going to work so much now. :P

I'm wearing my brand new pjs, slippers and robe. They're all very comfy and warm, I love them. :bloosmirk:

Ridureyu 12-27-2008 02:21 PM

I want to preface by saying that I really enjoyed Christmas, and I loved watching my family's response to their gifts, and all.

The Good:

Chrono Trigger DS (although I did kind of handpick it when told, "I don't know what to get you. We are in Wal-Mart. Grab something.")

Now, for the rest:

-Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (I'm a good enough actor to look pleased. Should win an Oscar)

-My THIRD copy of Batman Begins (Everybody: I have this movie. Thank you.)

-A DVD of Jeff Foxworthy (I survived this one by saying, "I heard he doesn't just do redneck jokes)

Everybody: If someone asks you what youw ant for Christmas, LET THEM KNOW.

Lynnie 12-27-2008 02:57 PM

What I've done for the past decade or so is write up a wish list in my email and save it as a draft. I usually have few emails saved in my draft folder, so I can dig it out quickly, update it every birthday and Christmas, and I just send it to my family and close friends again. I also include clothing/shoe sizes, favorite colors, favorite designers, etc. Works great, it's so easy and fast, and everyone keeps updated. :)

I heard the song "When a Child is Born" for the first time this season today. Yes, that's two days after the actual holiday. I love that song, I miss that song, I'm wanting to find a demo of that song so I can sing it myself sometime. I also heard Josh Groban's "Believe" only once this season, only a few days before the holiday. What is up with that?? :bloosad: True that some holiday music gets old after a few weeks (or days, even). But there are some others that I can't hear enough, and now I'm kind of sad I won't be hearing them anymore for another 11 months.

I guess I can always find my favorites on the internet though, but it's not the same.

there's always e-bay for that kind of thing.

so with my christmas cash I got a poster, a calendar, a headset so I could do Vocals in Guitar hero (which i shouldnt. man I cant sing at all.) and King of Fighters XI.

I think that was a good haul for about 30 bucks.

Ah yes, now that you mention it, I do remember that movie. It's about a calf who makes an arrangement with some kind of superior power for a mute child in an uneasy familial situation to have her Christmas voice. As I recall, it's quite a charming little film.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. I see that there's another Xmas thread in the Birthdays and Salutations section, so I'll most likely save the details of what I got for that.

Lynnie 12-29-2008 11:44 PM

Yay, I finally made it! :D

Oh, it was beautiful! It was my second time here in Seattle, fourth time total. I just love ballet! I can't take my eyes off the dancers' feet! They make it look so easy, but I know from experience it is not. I've read books and watched specials on TV, and got myself official attire and practiced at home, but I'm as ammeter as they come. I can barely balance en pointe (on the very tips of the toes) using both feet, forget only one, much less pirouetting (spinning) on one toe. Not to mention it hurts, ouch! But oh, it's so beautiful! It makes me dream! Now I can allow the holiday season to depart for another year. I've finally seen the Nutcracker!

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...Nutcracker.jpg

Oh, and for anyone wondering, I won't be changing my avatar until after the first of the year. I like to ease out of the season over the week between Christmas and New Years rather than cut it off cold turkey. :P
