Dark Star

An existentialist bomb and an alien resembling nothing less than a dimly-glowing beachball with webbed feet? Ho, it doesn't get any better than that. :bloocross:

A pretty grim conclusion, objectively speaking, but it makes you cheer nonetheless.

Cassini90125 06-05-2007 02:02 PM

Now there's a movie I haven't seen or thought about in ages. Good description there, based on what I remember. Not the best movie I've ever seen, but it did have a certain charm and understated wit to it. :)

Mr. Marshmallow 06-05-2007 02:06 PM

Super Mario Bros.

I know everyone despises, hates, and loahtes the very core of this film but regardless of what anyone says, I freaking loved this movie. It's not a damn bit like the real Mario games but as a movie itself I really enjoyed it. Original ideas, cool effects, amazing actors (I LOVED Dennis Hopper as Koopa ).

And I've always loved Bob Hoskins. I think also alot of people don't appreciate just how much Mario Bros. hints and easter eggs are loaded into this movie, I've seriously never seen so many in jokes for one movie then this one.

Cassini90125 06-05-2007 02:18 PM

I never played the game but I saw and liked the movie (possibly because I never played the game?) It surprises me to hear that a lot of people hated it. It was no cinematic masterpiece, not by any means, but I found it to be quite enjoyable.

Yeah I was just gonna say, Mario is a classic game. It's like the only game anyone can play and be good at and enjoy for hours on end.

The game is a MUST play, it's like the birth of video games for alot of people.

I've already got a game that meets that definition. ;D

Hold on guys,

Mario Brothers is that pipe game,
it was followed next by Donkey Kong (with the big Ape)
at this point the two games forked,
Donkey Kong had its spin offs, and Mario Had his spin offs.

"Super Mario Brothers" it the classic that everyone played on NES.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest

Definately not as good as Black Pearl. But it's OK.

Pulse

The original Japanese version. Loads better then the crappy US remake, and SO much more scarier then I first thought. Lots of cool, creepy ass scenes and dark music here. Some really good dark Japanese cinema stuff right here.

I don't normally watch foreign films unless they involve the supernatural, monsters, ghosts, or Godzilla. But after loving the US remakes of "The Ring" and "The Grudge" so much, I wanted to see what Japan's horror movies were like.

Wayne?s World 2

The Wayne?s World films are something of a guilty pleasure of mine. True, they?re hardly the most thought-provoking pieces of cinematic art ever devised, but they are consistently hilarious, with pretty much everything that Garth manages to stammer just cracking me up. 8D

Wayne?s World 2 doesn?t quite match up to the original, chiefly because the plot is even flimsier (yes, exactly) and relies an ounce too much on pastiches of other movies to keep itself afloat (notably Field of Dreams and the Graduate), but the humour still comes thick and fast. I enjoy this one for Garth?s female double, the arbitrary street vendors (?you've gotta wonder if this is gonna pay off later on? 8D), Charlton Heston?s cameo and, of course, the various Woodstock references. Oh, and Cassandra?s father - he's pretty awesome. :D

Owennoreen 06-10-2007 02:45 PM

Ok the last movie I watched was Alice sweet Alice 1976 pretty crazy and sweet lol!

Mr. Marshmallow 06-10-2007 03:20 PM

Hostel II

Saw it in theaters on Friday. Easily one of the nastiest movies around, the gore amount isn't staggering but the LEVEL of gore is indeed vomit worthy. There's some intense stuff in here, some bad acting but some nice plot twists too.

All in all the first one was better. There were things in here I liked more then the first, but the original left on a much more pleasant note and the final gore scene is certainly not something I wanted to burn into the back of my mind. But it did anyway.

Cassini90125 06-10-2007 05:02 PM

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, on DVD. This has been my favorite animated movie since I saw it in the theater when it first came out, and unless Foster's does something truly spectacular it probably always will be. ;D

Mr. Marshmallow 06-10-2007 09:29 PM

Ghostbusters

Also seen on DVD. I gotta say, this truly is one of the greatest movies ever made, a classic that has continued to withstand the test of time.

Every time I watch it, it always stays fresh, funny, entertaining and a total blast to watch. Stay Puft for president :D!!!

GrimTheLost 06-10-2007 09:38 PM

"Shrek the Third". It was better then I thoght, Justin Timberlake did better than I thought he would.

scary_dream 06-10-2007 10:53 PM

Hostel Part 2... Not fantastic, but definetely better than the first. They actually replaced some of the nudity and gore with a plot this time!

how is it a horror movie, then?

jekylljuice 06-12-2007 01:58 PM

The Son?s Room

A very powerful and poignant drama from Nanni Moretti, an Italian director I?ve gotten really into of late. He has a very beautiful writing and directing style - tranquil, understated but incredibly potent - and a charming onscreen presence as an actor. Unfortunately, his films don?t seem to be that widely available (I had to import a copy of Caro Diario from as far as Down Under), but they?re well worth hunting down, if you can. I can safely say that the final moments of this one are going to haunt me for days.

Heh, SOME of the nudity and gore. It was still there, except this time it wasn't just "Kill kill here, splash splash there, and a couple of tra-la-las", you got to see it from the rich people's point of view as well. Like I said, not great, but an improvement.

Last movie I watched: Child's Play 2

Partymember 06-12-2007 03:48 PM

LOL, well good then!

jekylljuice 06-13-2007 03:00 PM

Blue

How?s this for avante-garde - a film where the visuals consist entirely of a bright blue screen from beginning to end, accompanied by a haunting soundtrack in which the speaker reflects upon his deteriorating eyesight and imminent death from illness. The point of the blue screen, I presume, is to allow the viewer to experience a sightless perspective, and I found it rather difficult to keep my eyes on it for the duration. Otherwise, it was a lot more like listening to a radio play than watching a film, and a deeply stirring and unsettling one at that.

Mr. Marshmallow 06-13-2007 04:24 PM

Ghostbusters 2

After watching the first one it was only natural I would get around to watching this one as well :P. Watching movies like these really takes me back to when sequels were really, really, GOOD! Ghostbusters, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. They all had solid, very kick ass #2 sequels that really blew me away. Especially after giving them a second look now that I am older.

The music, the clever and unique named ghosts, all done just as smoothly as the first film. I loved the Scholari Brother ghosts and Vigo, MAN that guy was cool! I loved him as the new villain, I think he was even neater then Ghozer. That actor and that name just stuck with me for so long, I just loved his character. I'm really upset Bill Murray never did a 3rd.

I think Ghostbusters is a timeless movie series that will always be loved and supported by people no matter what day and age it comes out of.

AerostarMonk 06-13-2007 09:26 PM

A third CGI film is on the way. It's based on the old Hellbound script Ramis and Ackroyd put together in the 90s. It was the only way they could get Bill back. They would have no problem getting money with remake and 80s fever running rampant these days.

Even if it's horrible, I'll probably love it. This is the guy who nearly lost it when he saw the Shandor building and the church from the first film.

Yeah, I heard about this too but still, I still felt this is a series that could have made a fantastic 3rd live action film. But it would have to have been made back then, now a live one wouldn't work as well and it bugs me that Murray won't commit to a 3rd Ghostbusters yet he'll lend his voice to something like the Garfield movies.

I know voice acting is much simpler but come on, movies like that for someone like Murray just seems out of place to me. I personally would like to see an Extreme Ghostbusters movie. It would be a great way to bring back Ghostbusters for old fans and make new ones, plus the characters in that show were loads of fun. They were all interesting diverse choices.

Btw, what do you mean by lost it during the Shandor and church thing?

frankie_fan 06-14-2007 07:39 PM

The Money Pit on DVD.

One of Tom Hanks' funniest roles. The best part would have to be the scaffolding destruction.

Breakdown

One of my absolute favorite movies of all time. Killer suspense, amazing drama, and my god what an AWESOME finale.

Kurt Russell is such a bad ass, I love him in almost everything I see him in. A really good quality suspense/action movie that alot of people SHOULD be seeing.

jekylljuice 06-17-2007 03:32 PM

Event Horizon

I saw this gruesome film in a cinema surrounded by people who seemed to find the entire experience to be absolutely hilarious. Maybe I was in the wrong frame of mind because it just left me feeling incredibly nauseous and fatigued (although the acknowledgement that the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four appeared to show up every now and then did tickle me a little).

Not exactly scary, just very deeply unpleasant (but then, I doubt that the makers really cared to distinguish). Now I?m in desperate need of something innocent and light-hearted to take my mind off it?where did I put that My Little Pony video?

Pawbah 06-17-2007 03:42 PM

Ratatouille! It was SO CUTE and very good. Pixar amazes every time. I can't wait to see it again!

Blazing Saddles

A classic film, and one of the greatest pieces of comedic cinema history. Mel Brooks is an absolute genius and anyone who doubts that simply needs to see this movie.

It's a shame though because censors and politically correctness will never allow another movie like this to appear.

Blazing Saddles...OMFG great movie. Love the scene with all those nazis, K's, and other assorted nasty dudes are lined up to sign on with the bad guy. Hillarious.

i saw The Fountain at 3AM this morning. It didn't even make sense then. Good movie, though.

I loved when they did the swear in pledge for the bad guys:

Hedley Lamarr: Repeat after me: I...
Men: I...
Hedley Lamarr: ...your name...
Men: ...your name...
Hedley Lamarr: [to himself] Shmucks.
[aloud]
Hedley Lamarr: ...do pledge allegiance...
Men: ...do pledge allegiance...
Hedley Lamarr: ...to Hedley Lamarr...
Men: ...to Hedy Lamarr...
Hedley Lamarr: That's *Hedley*!
Men: That's Hedley.

Btw, Ah My Goddess: The movie (anime), is the last movie I saw and by god it was 3 words Beau-ti-ful! :D

i agree. They will NEVER make another movie like Blazing Saddles. I love those Klan uniforms with the smiley faces on the back! "Have a nice day!"

Life of Brian, which is pretty crude, doesn't even come close to Blazing Saddles.

Life of brian compated to Blazing Saddles is like comparing Apples to oranges.

and i eat both on a regular basis.

Anyone seen "Yellowbeard"? Its a great Python flick with Cheech and Chong as Aztecs. All about Yellowbeard the pirate going to find treasure in the New World. Absolutely hillarious.

Excellent movie, much better then I was expecting. Not really a Jump-n-scare movie but a very creepy, on the edge horror movie.

Some great stuff in here, didn't feel cheap or old or outdated or anything. Cusack and Jackson were amazing, I think this is Cusack's best work yet.

Medikor 06-22-2007 03:15 PM

I was flipping through the channels and came across the first Land Before Time movie. One of my all time favorites. The music, art, atmosphere, animation, and everything still chokes me up even now.
It just touches me on an emotional level that other movies just can't. And the movie is made even sadder when you remember that the little girl who voiced Ducky was murdered by her father before the film was released...:(
