Oh wow... well, everyone's different.
And agreed, PBL... we do need more Wilts in real life. I've yet to meet one, actually. I have a feeling that nowadays, true gentlemen are few and far in between. I mean, the only reason a LOT of guys are gentlemanly is to impress a girl. But not Wilt... he's not trying to impress anyone by being nice. It's just one of the things that make him so lovable, I suppose. :D EDIT: I take that back, I have met ONE true gentleman, and he was about 70 years old. We need more young guys like him! |

same here! I sorta annoy my friends with the barrage of "sorry" though. |
Hah, me too, I'm kind of a Helpy Helperton and I apologise a LOT, 'cept I CANNOT be cheerful all the time. I tend to get pretty grumpy, cynical, and generally unpleasant sometimes, especially whenever I get let down about something.
|
Yeah, we DO need more Wilts in the world. Luckily for me, I know atleast one Wilt, and he's my best friend. :D So, yeah, there's still hope in the world.
|
He is nice to Bloo even when bloo is mean to him
|
I like Wilt quite a lot, but for some reason I can't bring myself saying he'd be one of my favourites in the show. It's probably because I can't relate him to any way. We have absolutely nothing in common.
He's an awesome character and very well thought out. With Coco he's the most humane and multi-layered friend out there. One of the most interesting things in him is that it's not really clear whether he's so sweet and helpful because he's simply selfless by nature, or if he's trying to ease the guilt (pouring from leaving Jordan?) with all the good deeds. However it is, Wilt's a cool character and fun to watch. Plus he definitely forms a great duo with Eduardo. |

wowee.... that is SO me! like dead on! |
Yes, I find myself liking Wilt quite a lot, but not to the point wanting to be his wife!
To me, he's more of a role-model, you know? Because of him, I've become nicer to people, and willing to lend a helping hand to others. Then at school after eating lunch, watching kids play basketball, I sigh and say, "I wish I could remember to take my activity card with me," since that's how you get a ball or whatever, in my school anyways. I'm glad and relieved that Wilt wasn't written off the show, because if he did, I'd wonder who else I can look up to. Bloo? NAH. Plus, if Wilt was written off, the fans would be so mad, including the fangirls, to actually form an angry mob to bring him back. But hey, at least they care. :D |

[Starfire voice]...So I'm not a fangirl? I am not a girl or a fan? I do not understand.[/Starfire] |

But I WOULD kiss Bloo. Not marry him, just a kiss. (In the background, hear's Bloo go... "Yes girls just can't resist my God-like self...") For cryin' out loud people, stop giving me those weird looks. :P |
Awesome Antgirl1! You said it.
While Wilt's gentlemanly characteristics DO make me have a little bitty crush on him, I'm not absolutely stark raving mad about it. He's a still much more of a role-model-type person to me, too. I've actually found myself being a lot nicer to people and helping out a LOT more, and really enjoying it. Plus, he's kind of inspired me to be WAY more active than what I used to be, and because of that, I've lost almost 10 lbs! The best part is, if we're treating him like a role model, think of all the younger kids who are soaking that behavior up as well. I don't know about you guys, but when I was little, I learned so much from cartoons, including how to act socially. Hopefully they're learning something from him. |
I'd be lying through my teeth like a politician running for office if I said that I didn't find Wilt to be very attractive, physically, but that's not the only reason I find him so appealing. There are plenty of male celebs whom I find attractive, but as they say, the buck stops there. Most are rather shallow, or clueless, some are involved with stuff that they have no business being involved with; whatever the reason, the "total package" is missing. Wilt has at least already demonstrated, through his behavior, that there's a whole lot more to him that a gorgeous smile. He's not a put-on when it comes to being nice. It's not just a public front, but the real deal. He's a genuinely compassionate, caring person, and a real old-fashioned gentleman, the sort who opens doors for people and says "yes, M'am" to total strangers. He's also versitile in what he can do-I hear so many women lament that their husbands can't fix things that break around the house, can't even check the oil in the car-Wilt can do all those things that the "man of the house" used to be expected to take care of "back in the day", and he doesn't MIND doing them! He is also an excellent role model for young kids, especially young boys, if they'd bother really paying attention to him, through his unerring sense of fair play and sportsmanship and his determination. It's obvious from GWH that he and Jordan were not from the best neighborhood, and Jordan acknowledges that without Wilt's guidance in his early years, he might not have turned out to be such a gentleman himself. Kids don't get to see such a positive role model often these days, unless that character is all sappy and sacharine, but Wilt is as tough as he is gentlemanly, and that is a rare gem, indeed.

If he's a role-model, more "Wilts" will be in this world soon enough. :D
At least, I HOPE. |
Agreed, agreed, agreed, to everyone! Maybe, if we're lucky, at least a few "Wilts" are growing up now, and at least our children can experience such (currently lost) chivalry.
Unfortunately, my generation of guys grew up thinking that being rude is "totally radical" and "gnarly". *le sigh* ::) Maybe that's why nowadays, I'm a sucker for a guy that will just hold the door for me and call me "ma'am" instead of "cutie" or "gorgeous". |

One thing about Wilt I can imagine.
At the end of Foster's Goes to Europe, Wilt expresses his dissapointment to Mac for "losing" the plane tickets. I bet he would react like this when he found out that Madame Foster stole them. Wilt: {Pause} Well, Madame Foster has done a lot for us... (But then, I could picture Bloo wanting to learn how Madame Foster stole the plane tickets so he could try it himself.) |
Quote:
That would definately put Wilt in a bit of a bind, insofar as speaking up about it. So far, he has NEVER said anything negative or "talked back" to Madame Foster or to Frankie, though he DOES sometimes use a very subtle form of sarcasm or suck his teeth(a gesture of disrespect in some cultures) whenever Mr. Herriman says something he objects to. He really would not be able to voice his displeasure at what Madame Foster did with his and the others' tickets, though, since she DOES let him stay in HER house, free of charge, and has final say-so over who stays. I'd figure that he would apologize, sincerely and profusely, though, to Mac upon finding out what really happened to those tickets, since he got on Mac's case pretty badly about it. pitbulllady |
Look what I found just now.

Guess it was just sleeping, after all! Anyway, just pondering on the topic of WHERE Wilt(and Jordan)is originally from. There were no obvious clues in GWH as to the exact location of the city to which Wilt journeys for his final show-down with Foul Larry; it could have been any city which had an older part of town and a relatively large African-American population. I DID see some of the wrought-iron railings that are so prevalent in N'awlins, but you can see that same style of architecture in many old US cities, especially in the South. In the recently-updated Wikipedia article(take THAT for whatever it's worth), it's stated that the map showing Wilt's destination resembles Nevada, but I honestly could not make out ANY landmarks, states' outlines, notable highways, etc. from that map. Some of the areas he passes through on the lawnmower do resemble Western states, like Texas, although the old farmer he helps has a very distinctive New England accent, the sort typical of Maine, which I'd hardly expect to hear in a semi-desert Western town! The Wikipedia article, however, contradicts Lauren Faust's own statement as to location of Foster's Home by claiming it's in New England or upstate New York(Lauren said it was somewhere in the Pacific Northwest), so that would indeed mean that Wilt would have to travel "all the way across the country", as Frankie pointed out, to reach Nevada. The article claims that a sign for New Hampshire was seen in the episode, "Bus The Two of Us", to back up the claim for Foster's being located in New England, and of course, both New England AND the Pacific Northwest would be in relatively close proximity to Canada, as per that episode that so many Frankie fans take exception to. I'm gonna have to go with Lauren's statement, though, since she writes for the show, and put Foster's in the Pacific Northwest. That would mean that Wilt's destination was VERY unlikely to have been Nevada, since that would certainly NOT be "all the way across the country" from his current home, but just a couple(at the most)of states away. That would mean, then, that Wilt's destination was on the east coast of the US. Now, since we know that Jordan Michaels IS based on Michael Jordan, would it be unreasonable to assume that Jordan, and therefore Wilt, would be from either the same locale, or a close one, as Jordan's real-life model? Michael Jordan is from Wilmington, North Carolina, about 3-4 hours "up the road" from where I live. Then, though, there is the issue of Wilt's accent, which is noticeably stronger than that of his creator(though I would assume that Jordan has been through a university education and probably worked to speak without a distinct regional or ethnic accent). I've stated before that at times, Wilt sounds like he's either a New Orleans "Yat" or a South Carolina "Geechee",(from our "Low Country", the coastal region encompassing Charleston and vicinity, and southwards into Savannah, GA)and Larry's accent is even stronger than Wilt's, since unlike Wilt, Larry has not been away from that city for 30 years. Charleston, SC(or "The Holy City", as we call it)does have not only a large African-American population, but it's a very old city, one of the oldest in the US, and it does have areas with that same architechtural style seen in the movie. It also has the distinction of being named "Most Polite City in America" more often than any other city in the US, which might help account for Wilt's and Jordan's politeness. A locale in the Carolinas, either North or South, WOULD be "all the way across the country" from Foster's, if it is indeed in the Pacific Northwest, whereas New Orleans would only be half-way, more or less. Any thoughts on this? pitbulllady |
actually,
I was thinking..... well, they're on the EAST coast, so I figured "all the way across the country" would be on the WEST coast, so I thought he was somewhere in california. |
Quote:
Lauren Faust herself has stated that Foster's Home is located "somewhere in the Pacific NorthWEST"(emphasis on "West" mine), which would mean anywhere from northern California to upper Washington State, so if Wilt traveled "all the way across the country" from where Foster's is located, then he'd have to be traveling EAST, since if he traveled west, he'd soon wind up in the Pacific Ocean! Since Lauren Faust does write for the show, I'd have to take her word over something on Wikipedia.com as "canon", insofar as locales go. Whether or not the show's writers have placed Jordan's hometown as the same as that of his namesake's, is not clear. pitbulllady |
Yes, I always thought that "All the way across the country" was going (possibly) to the original 13 states. :D
|
Quote:
I doubt he'd have traveled through ALL of the 13 original states/colonies, since that would have been a north-south(or vice versa)trip, and not across the country. It's likely, though, that Wilt's destination was in ONE of those original states, since they're all located along the Eastern seaboard of the US. pitbulllady |
