Earthworm Jim

Last level, last life, and no more continues. I get to the final boss, and just when I thought I was gonna die first and have to start all over again, I beat the game! And a funny ending to boot!

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

Finally got myself a Wii for Christmas, and I gotta say, it's QUITE a workout on the arms! 8D

I gotta get more games!

Super paper Mario (Wii)

Followed by

Sam and Max: Season 1 (Wii)

Two of the funniest games to ever come down the turnpike, the Paper Mario series is always good for laugh for the way they are able to successfully poke fun of the conventions found in the entire Mario series, and Sam and Max...is well Sam and Max which never fails to disappoint on the task of mirth generation.

Zone of the Enders

This game is fun. I really don't know how to describe it. Maybe you should just Google it if you are interested.

Edit: The voice acting is weird. Most of the characters have great voicing (that I noticed, at least.) but the main character is an odd case. Half the time its nice, and the other half it just sounds kinda funny how bad it can be.

The game is pretty short. I'm almost at the end and I've only spent a few hours playing it. That said, it is pretty fun and worth the five bucks I payed for it. (and would gladly pay more.)

emperor26 01-31-2009 04:15 PM

Afro Samurai

Based on the manga/anime by Takashi Okazaki, the Afro Samurai video game improves the hack-and-slash genre mixing with timing and strategy. Along with some good voice actings, this game is actually good once you get use to the gameplay.

I know the reviews are mixed, but I could less about them, and prefer to judge video games by actually playing them.

Super Paper Mario

Pretty fun game so far even though I only got to play the first level before having to stop and eat dinner. :P

Call of Duty: World At War (Wii)

I've always wondered what the big deal was with of all of these historical themed first person shooters, so I decided to pick up the latest from one of the most popular series in the genre.

For the most part I enjoyed it (Well the times when I wasn't being blown up by phantom grenades or sliced to ribbons by bayonets.) the story moved along at brisk pace, the levels were fun (All though more levels where you get to drive a tank would have been nice.) and best of all you get to have Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman as your commanding officers.

frankie_fan 02-05-2009 05:16 PM

Lego Batman (Wii)

I got it last night. It's a fun game, I really need to play it more.

Nathander 02-09-2009 09:38 PM

Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. I've gotten on a kick with D&D computer games recently for some reason.

Invader Bloo 02-10-2009 05:46 PM

I've been playing Left 4 Dead alot. It's also a reason why I haven't been RPing alot.

Holy crow, I remember that game.

"Due to the efforts of Pulseman, the case was completely solved."

If you like that game and if you have a Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS, you should check out Drill Dozer which was also made by Game Freak and is pretty fun as well.

frankie_fan 02-18-2009 08:45 PM

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

One of the two Wii games (the other one being Lego Batman) I purchased recently. I've been wanting to play this game as I'm a fan of the WarioWare series (Mona is as cute as ever!), and I'm happy to say that I SO enjoyed this game! Very fun.

some guy you dont know 02-23-2009 05:04 PM

I picked up Mega Man Legends for the original playstation for eight bucks today. So far, it's pretty great.

Man, I love how cheap the games at book and music exchange (which also sales games, game systems, movies, etc.) are. If you ever go to owensboro, KY, you should check it out.

Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends: Imaginary Invaders (DS)

This review has been a long time coming, well it wouldn't have been if the game wasn't so hard to hard to find in my city, but I digress.

After playing the game to near completion (Finishing the main game, but still haven't found 100% of the collectibles.) I can sum up my experience with this game in eight words.

"Good, but could have been a lot better."

Positives.

The Music was well done, the familiar theme song is there in all of it's psychedelic rag time glory, and the in stage themes were catchy and didn't overstay their welcome.

The play control was was very responsive for the most part (More on that later), the jumping and moving about was spot on and never messed you up with unresponsiveness.

Graphically the game looked better then I expected, I know sometimes making the leap from 2D to 3D can have some ugly consequences but in this game (With a few exceptions) the transition came out pretty well.

The mini games and boss fights were fun. The nods to classic games like Space invaders and on various on rail shooting games is always aces in my book.

The in game dialogue stayed true to the characters. Filled with all the little quirks and in jokes we've come to expect. (Of course bringing on a long time Foster's scribe to handle the writing duties will do that for ya.)

Good use of the dual screens, I was never at a loss as where to go next thanks to the in game map.

Negatives.

Sadly the game was criminally short and very easy. I wasn't expecting a game the length of Final Fantasy. But a few more levels would have been nice, (An outside hedge maze level would have been cool.) As for the challenge I can give that pass given the games target audience, on the other hand I grew up in an era where even the games based on kids licenses were hard as sin, sign of the times again.

While I did say the play control was good most of the time there was still some hiccups that keep it from being perfect, some of the touch screen sections were kind of wonky (Especially the one at the end of the game.) and it was kind of annoying having to switch between the touch screen and control pad in some areas of the game. (I guess games like this were made for the thumb stylus.)

Bloo looked kind of off model in 3D, you would think they would have done a better rendering job on the main character of the show, but only a minor quibble.

Also shame on them having no character voice clips from anyone other then Mac or Bloo. (Again minor quibble...)

So to sum up there was the foundations for a great game laid out in this one, and if the circumstances were right for a sequel (Which I am guess there probably won't be due to the show ending and the publisher Midway in financial dire straits.) With a little spit and polish they could take what they've got here and make it better and brighter then before.

Invader Bloo 03-11-2009 05:34 PM

Halo Wars

First RTS I've ever played. I like it alot, though I don't like how the Covenant got under-powered, in the demo they were awesome. In the game they suck.

Sama-chan 03-11-2009 08:57 PM

Rock Band 2
I'm addicted to that game

L.G. 03-12-2009 10:53 PM

First, the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I've finally beaten it since getting as a Christmas present from 2007. It wasn't really hard (except figuring out how to beat King Zant)...I was just dragging my feet playing it through until recently.

Then Mario Kart Wii. I'm usually Toad in the Blue Falcon kart, and I always feel triumphant when I finish a race ahead of skilled bikers online: those vehicles are broken IMO (bikes' wheelies and shaper turning radius seem to trump kart's stronger mini turbos). This week I've encounted 3 (!) sets of hackers. The 1st set had 2 hackers with infinite items: they caused chaos with blue shells, bob-ombs... everything, but they would place themselves last at the end of the race and lose on purpose. The 2nd set had one hacker who cheated with infinite speed boosts to win in vs. mode. The last set was a hacker who also cheated to win but in battle mode instead and with blue shells and invincibility.

Resident Evil 5! :D

some guy you dont know 03-31-2009 06:57 PM

Do you know what's odd? I've owned this game since I bought my game boy color way back in 1999 (or maybe 2000) and have never really tried to play this game. I've played it a few times, but never even went into a dungeon. So, I started playing it yesterday on my way home from the trip I was on.

Wow. This game, in my opinion, is amazing. I've never played any of the other zelda games either (although that's mostly because the only nintendo systems I've ever owned were gameboys and a DS) but I'm pretty sure that I'll be hunting them down soon enough.

Did I mention that the music is also great? I also like the graphics. They have that certain charm to them. Is this how everyone feels when they play their first zelda game?

I wish I was one of those people that knew how to describe things. I think this is one of those games that can make any long ride worth it. Or just a fun way to spend your time while sitting around the house, too.

I grew up with Link's Awakening, so it's always been something very near and dear to my heart. Say hi to the Bucket Mouse for me.

A bunch of friends more or less suckered me into getting back into it. I had forgotten how completely addicting it was.

On the off chance that anyone's actually wondered why I haven't been posting so much here over the past couple of weeks, it's probably because my new DSi has been gobbling up such a huge portion of my free time. Up until now, I missed out on the whole Nintendo DS revolution, so I'm aware that none of these games are really anything new - but hell, they're new and exciting to me, so please bear with me here.

Nintendogs - Chihuahua and Friends

Addictive, adorable, wonderful. In concept, this isn't terribly dissimilar to the Dogz and Catz PC games which were popular in the 90s, but it's leaps and bounds ahead of them in terms of graphics, technology and all the things that you can do with your digital chum. Your puppy will recognise her name and respond to all the vocal commands that you teach her throughout, you pet her, train her and care for her with use of your stylus, enter her in various canine-related contests and get her to bond with the neighbourhood pooches. I must say, they did a really impressive job of replicating all those little canine movements and mannerisms, and as far as I can tell the cries are authentic to each breed - you'd have to be pretty darn hard-hearted to play this game and not feel some degree of emotional attachment to that little lolloping mass of pixels. It's too bad that the DSi camera doesn't allow you to take in-game pictures, or I'd post a few snapshots of my little Latin American friend Flurry - I'm getting to be so freakin' proud of her.

Incidentally, while there are a few different versions of this game available, the only real difference between them is the order in which the various breeds become available to you - as you progress through the game, you earn trainer points, which enable you to unlock around twenty or so different wolf mutations to take home with you. I still have a loooong way to go before I get my (already well-chewed) stylus on the beagle and shih tzu companions which I'm craving to purchase for Flurry.

Pokemon Pearl

Great to be back in the Pokemon loop again (oh, and incidentally, am I the only person here who plays Pearl, as opposed to Diamond?) If I recall correctly, there was a thread here in the Other Entertainment section in which we were able to compare our pokemon teams and exchange wi-fi friend codes for battles. I wouldn't mind digging that up at some point, though obviously I still need time to build up a team that I'm happy with. So far, this is definitely proving to be the best Pokemon Generation yet - nice to see that all of the positive innovations of Ruby and Sapphire have been retained while all the shortcomings of those particular games (loss of the day/night feature, absence of older pokemon species) have been graciously ammended. The introduction of the Wi-Fi trading system has definitely made my life a heck of a lot easier (I remember the old days when, in certain circles, playing Pokemon came with some kind of stigma attached, so I often shyed away from finding people I could trade with. Hence, my Pokedex was never complete, and I never got to battle with a Zangoose or a Gligar). The earliest gym leaders have been pretty challenging this time around (remember how big a pushover Falkner was in Gold/Silver?), or at least they have been according to my own methodology (it's a particular quirk of mine, but I always prefer to battle with only the exact same number of pokemon that the gym leader does, a la the TV show). And best of all, I finally have a Bidoof of my very own (except that he's long since evolved into a Bibarel - I call him Socrates).

Spore Creatures

Actually, I haven't gotten round to playing this one yet. My head has just been stuck so much in the aforementioned two. Well, soon enough I'm sure.

some guy you dont know 04-20-2009 01:20 PM

Super Smash Bros. Melee

I got this game yesterday even though I was sure It'd take a lot longer than just two days for me to actually have a game for the Gamecube that I bought a week ago. Anyway, I played for a few hours (don't even know how many) last night and unlocked five characters already. So far I seem to do best with Zelda, or maybe I just like using her. I also don't do that bad with the Ice Climbers.

Nathander 04-20-2009 04:08 PM

Persona 3 FES

I've gotten to about the last third of the game, so I'm hoping to wrap up my first run soon so I can turn my attention to Persona 4.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - As much as I like Sonic 3D Blast's music, it doesn't work when you borrow almost every song from both versions of it and devamp them into something that sounds like you got them from VGmusic.com. =U

I've been playing with Pokemon Platinum and beta testing Neopets new spinoff game Petpet Park.

The Neopets game is looking like it'll be a lot like a mmo version of Animal Crossing. And I just love the DDR ripoff mini game "Petpet Boogie" XD~

The beta is open for more sign ups right now so if ya move on over to the site you might be able to grab a spot before they fill up again =)

Super Mario Bros.

MadWorld

Compare to No More Heroes, MadWorld was just as gruesome and shocking than its predecessor, from the story, gameplay and the characters themselves. It was a brutal beat'em up game, with a touch of black humor and the story itself is quite good as well. For a Wii game, it is quite fun; kinda short, but still fun.

Okay tough guy, now beat the NES version of Ninja Gaiden 3 (With it's insane enemy damage and limited continues) then we can truly call you the master.

Ridureyu 05-04-2009 07:32 PM

Did that one a while ago. I probably won't do it again, though, as the time limit gets really irritating in the last level.

"You...Ashtar! That sword..." (I had to throw that quote out there!)

As have I. Never beaten the third one, though!

Mega Man (Virtual Console version). One of the hardest games I've ever played. My friend warned me ahead of time that I would end of cursing a lot while playing it, and I did (although silently). Dr. Wily's level in particular was ridiculously hard: a boss rush with four of six bosses I've previously defeated?! Geez...

Man you guys must have the patience of saints, even to this day the "only" Ninja Gaiden game I have even beaten was the DS version. (Awesome game, unless you hated the PS3/X-box/X-box360 version's of Gaiden of which the DS version is based.)

Come to think of it the only "Nintendo Hard" game I have ever been able to beat was the original Mega Man, without having to resort to using the Pause/Elec beam trick no less.

Anyways getting back on topic the last game I played was the PS2 war sim Kessen 2, which like almost any other game Koei makes is based on the 14 century Chinese novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms"

taranchula 05-11-2009 04:45 PM

Klonoa (Wii)

A remake of the classic playstation 1 platformer, it's a very happy shiny game complete kwaii protagonist and bright colorful levels...and also one of the most depressing endings in the history of video games. (Despite that it's still a great game) :P
